Last time on The Legend of Groose: Groose jumped off the side of a cliff and is now hunting down an unknown beast who destroyed the Kikwi base and has a Triforce piece. Link and Duke (a Kikwi soldier) are still climbing down the side of the canyon, and Ghirahim teleported away to meet up with Groose. Cheeb is nowhere to be found in the village...
"Duke, that doesn't look too good." Link pointed out, watching the ground below him.
"Eh, that doesn't look too bad…" Duke replied, edging down another level on the canyon wall. The encampment below was in flames.
"Will everyone down there know what to do?"
"They'll be fine."
Link and Duke continued down for a while more. The sun had begun to set, and the embers of the Kikwi Base below them cast their shadows up the side of the canyon wall. As Link saw the last of the sun's rays slip behind the other side of the canyon, Duke held up his arm.
"This is far enough. See that little platform jutting out below us? That's a lift in the canyon wall; we can take it the rest of the way down."
"Well gee," Link said, "I'm glad I won't have to climb down the other half of the canyon." He dropped down and planted on the small rocky outreach. He searched the canyon wall for a little bit, before calling back out to Duke, who was still climbing down above him.
"What?" Duke responded.
"How do we activate this thing?" Link asked.
"There's a lever a little bit to your right, just pull it."
Link turned and found the mentioned lever. He gripped both of his hands around it and began to pull. Groose's glove would've been a great help at the moment, but Groose leapt off earlier. Ghirahim's magic also would've helped, but he'd teleported off. Once again, Link had to do everything himself, because he was the only one with any common sense around here.
Link pulled the lever down, but it didn't budge. He put his shoulders into pushing, but it still wouldn't release.
"Duke, this lever's stuck, are you sure this is safe?"
"Shake it, baby."
Link rattled the lever around until a faint clicking noise was heard. He pulled the lever down, and a rumbling came from the wall. The rocks parted way to reveal a rusty metal cage. Link slid between the bars as Duke hopped down and into the cage with him. Hitting a button on the floor, the metal cage began to descend, bringing them one step closer to whatever was happening at the bottom of the canyon.
"So how long have you been walking?" Ghirahim asked.
"A couple hours, maybe? I lost track of time." Groose said.
"Are you going to stop anytime soon?"
"Probably not. I know where the next Triforce piece is, plus Cheeb wasn't back at the village. If my calculations are correct, there's a possibility Cheeb could be somewhere that's not the village."
Ghirahim paused. "Well, I mean, you're not wrong. I guess you have that. But, don't you think that the monster who had the Triforce piece and attacked the village might also be related to Cheeb not being in the village?"
"I said my calculations, those don't go as far as Fi's did. It's something though."
The sounds of the wind howling through the canyon echoed around the two. Ghirahim kept the duo illuminated through use of his diamond magic. Groose continued walking, unwavering in his march down the ravine.
"…do you miss her?"
"Who?" Groose asked. "Fi? Zelda? Does someone else want a piece of the Groose?"
"Fi."
Groose looked at Ghirahim for a brief moment. He sighed, then turned to look up to the heavens. The stars were beginning to dot the evening sky.
"Well, I guess so. She wasn't hot or anything, so she didn't have much in the girlfriend department, so normally I wouldn't care at all. I don't really know what it is though. Maybe it's because she was so useful, or maybe because she was so nice to me, I'm not sure. But yeah, I think I do miss her. I think I liked our first adventure together better than this one."
"Why is that?" Ghirahim prodded.
"Because that story actually updated, er I mean, I feel she took a lot of pressure off of me. This adventure feels so important, and I feel like everyone's eyes are on me. Fi always made it fun by joking around, calling me stupid. Nobody's joking now. We're three Triforce pieces in, and it feels like the whole world is gunning against me. But I can't quit. I gotta keep going. For Cheeb. For Zelda. For the people of Grooseland. For Link. For Fi."
"I'm sure you can do it, Groose. You can save whoever you need to. You're a big guy."
"…For you."
A silenced washed over the two of them. Only the warm wind still blew as they continued their pace down the rocky interior of the canyon.
"Okay, Duke, we're here. Where the hell is everyone, and where do you think Groose and Ghirahim are?"
"Well quiet down your pansy ass and I'll tell you. The Kikwi troops are assembled on the east side of the canyon, and they didn't report anything. Your buddies are probably down the other side of the ravine, heading west. Go get 'em."
"Where are you going to be?"
"I've gotta take care of shit around here, I'll see you later."
Link shook the Kikwi's hand and turned. Link began to walk away towards the west end of the canyon, ready to reunite with his friends, get the fourth piece of the Triforce, and get his sail cloth back from Groose.
"Hey, Link." Duke called back out before he was too far out of range.
"What?"
"Two things. One, check the small shack towards the outskirts of the village. It's relatively untouched nowadays, but what you find inside should be useful. Two, if you catch the bastard that did this to my village… do a favor for me."
Link paused. "Yeah?"
"Rip off his head and shit down his neck."
Link chuckled. "Got it." He made a quick wave with his hand, and began jogging through the charred mess. The damage seemed to be focused towards the center of the village, and the farther he got from it, the better the rest of it looked. By the time he reached the final shack on the outskirts of the village, it looked as if nothing was wrong. Link approached the door to the shack, and slowly turned the knob.
The door popped open, and Link swung it to the side. A smile crept across his face as the wind ruffled through his long, dirty hair. He ran a hand through it, and laughed to himself. This could be fun.
