CHAPTER 15

"Get up." Levi ordered, his voice harsh.

He stayed where he was, and gave the order once again. His voice failed him midway through, cracking.

He dropped himself to the ground, and made his way over, then brushed her hair aside, ignoring the dried out red liquid staining his fingers.

"Fuck you Petra, get up." he repeated, his voice softening as he ran his fingers through her silky hair.

When she didn't reply, he felt something inside of him break. His pale grey eyes found her honey colored eyes, and he held her gaze, thinking back to all those moments he spent with her, and all the future moments that they'd been robbed of, as the Female Titan had robbed his lover of her life.

He opened his mouth, "I don't know if you can still hear me. But maybe you're listening. You don't really have to say anything," he paused, and a fat wet drop fell onto Petra's face, cleaning off a smudge of dirt.

"I would really like for you to say something, or maybe just to hear you laugh one more time." he continued. "That's it. Maybe just one smile. You don't have to worry about me being angry with you or anything."

Levi passed his thumb over her cheek, brushing aside all of the dirt, leaves, and blood from her beautiful face, training his eyes on her dazzling golden ones.

Running his thumb over her lips, he noted how much colder they were, and all he could think about was the last kiss he shared with her. If he had known that this was going to happen, he would've kissed her lips a hundred more times, and taken more of her spirit in. But there was no going back, and all he could do was think back to the past.

He blinked at her, unable to say anything, unable to do anything else other than stare at her.

Without realizing it, he slipped the ring he'd been saving out of his pocket, and slid it down her left ring finger, noting how it caught the light. Left with a bitter incomplete sort of satisfaction, he finally closed her eyes.

He prepared to fly back to Erwin and Hanji, where he'd be seen carrying her body and a grim expression. He would drop her off in the cart, and retrieve the rest of his squad. The only difference between the past and the present was that there were so many more factors that added to his list of reasons why he wanted to eradicate the world of the titans. And he would make sure that nobody died in vain.

As he flew through the forest, he thought back to her, and closed his eyes. "Until the next life, Petra Ral."

AUTHOR'S NOTE.

Dear all, thank you for following this story. It's been a blast writing it, and I apologize for the short, terrible, and sudden ending. If it was the best choice, I do not know. The main reason for that was that I was really just running out of ideas for it, and I knew that after this weekend, I'd be busy virtually everyday. I'd also feel terrible never closing it up. At the same time, I feel terrible about this ending, because those two really needed some more happy moments. I will most likely be writing an AU fic for these two, so that'll happen! Again, thank you everyone! Happy New Year!
