Okay so! For some reason, which I did not realize, that Chapter Five wasn't fully published out. I guess the copy my computer picked was an unfinished copy. SO! Here is the full chapter. I feel silly for letting that slip! Also, thank you so much for the feedback, I love it. Enjoy! -Schuyler

He sighed heavily as he sat in his car, his forehead resting on the steering wheel. It had been almost a week since he had met with Miroku at Bar' Bar and they had that uncomfortable heart to heart type conversation. It lingered with him ever since, pestering him. Which is why he knew he that what he was about do to wasn't something he would enjoy, but it had to be done.

After InuYasha left his car, he proceeded up the walk way to a section of apartment complexes. The walk way was lined with cherry blossom trees; their faded pink petals coated the ground beneath him. The sunset crept behind the building but rays peeked through the openings of the breeze ways throughout the complex. It was a quiet midevening; the locus hummed loudly all around. The path curved around one set of complexes but leading to another set that had a view of the city, far off in the distant maybe but the vast view of Tokyo.

By the time InuYasha made his way around the first complex, he'd pass down an open breeze, passing three doors until finally reaching the one farthest in.

He stood at a door that read four on the upper right hand corner of the doorway. He gazed at it, adjusting the heft manila envelope that rested underneath his arm. He pulled open the screen door and knocked lightly on the door. As he waited for an answer, sniffing once or twice, he could smell an flavorful aroma seeping from the other side; along with hearing light talking from the other side of the door also. He couldn't help but grin as he listened.

"Mom!"

"Kai, you keep your butt in that bath."

"No but mom, I-"

"But your butt stays in the tub."

The voice grew louder as she approached the front door, with Kai being fully aware that it was InuYasha at the door; thanks to the genes he inherited from InuYasha would be both a curse and blessing for Kai. So naturally as the door flew open, he was greeted by a summery smile, only did a gleam of surprise appeared in her eyes but went as quickly as it came. It also seemed as though when she opened the door, his nostrils were flooded with various aromas. Mainly that of a home cooked meal. He then realized she'd been wearing her usual buttercup yellow apron, he must have caught them at the end of dinner.

"Hey." He spoke first

"Hey." She stepped aside "Come on in."

He didn't expect to be invited in, the scenario he played out was more like something out of a gangster movie. He'd hand her the envelope, they'd exchange a few words (she most likely nag him) and then he'd be on his way. Then again Kagome was constantly trying to keep their communication civil; despite the lawyer only communication. He stepped in, he took a second to observe her home. He had never really been in her apartment, he only knew of the exterior of the complex when he'd either pick up or drop off Kai. InuYasha took a few more steps in as he glanced around. It wasn't really a surprise by the layout design.

It screamed Kagome.

The walls were light gray and white, while the furnishings were a mixture of maroon, white and an a deep green. Pictures coated the walls, many being Kai and her family. While he looked at the pictures and their interesting alignments, he spotted in a white frame that sat on the entertainment system; it was a picture Kai and InuYasha. He cracked a smile.

While he smiled like a dope, he noticed out of the corner of his eye, Kagome just staring at him. Her brow furrowed slightly. He looked right back at her.

"You okay?" she asked

"Yeah? Why wouldn't I be?" he

"Well, I was being nice and telling you sit, get comfortable" her face relaxed and her eyes smiled "But you seemed to have spaced out."

"Oh." Was all he could muster up, as he watched her escape from the living room, around the corner and into what he assumed was the kitchen; since that is where the invigorating scent was coming from. InuYasha slipped his shoes off and took a seat on the couch, letting the envelope slip from under his arm and plopping onto the couch. It was a bit awkward to sit there, but at the same time, it wasn't. He continued to observe, spotting traces of Kai in almost every nook and cranny. In which the term speak of the devil would come into play; the sound of quick paced feet pitter pattered from upstairs to the stairs. Growing louder and faster.

"Daddy!" a shriek rang in InuYasha's ears as he was graced with an embrace, Kai's mess of hair still damp.

"Hey bud." InuYasha hugged Kai, squeezing him to where he went into a fit of laughter.

"I've missed you!"

"I have too." InuYasha looked at his son with adoring eyes. Kai had set off talking about various things; InuYasha attempted to keep up but didn't lose his smile. Overall he was able to know Kai had gotten a new action hero toy from his favorite anime, Kagome had made Kai's favorite dinner and that was going to having a sleep over at Uncle Sesshomaru's next week.

InuYasha had seemed to forget about the uneasy feeling that was lingering.

He has become so immersed in Kai's nonstop conversation that he didn't notice Kagome emerging from the other room with a tray, homemade Ramen and rice balls placed neatly on the tray. A cup of steamy tea rested in the corner of the tray. As she set the tray on the open coffee table, he was slightly thrown off.

"Kagome, I-"she rose her hand, signaling him to stop.

"Just eat."

"I'm not hungry…" he muttered but that is the moment when his stomach bellowed loudly. Kai giggled and InuYasha's head hung lightly. Betrayed by his own stomach. Kagome shook her head, retreating back to the kitchen.

"Kai, let your dad eat." Kagome called out as she walked away, Kai crawled up onto the couch next to InuYasha; watching him eat and resting against his side. InuYasha didn't mind.

InuYasha gave into his stop and Kagome's hospitality, picking up the warm bowl of ramen. It smelled of curry with a hint of ginger; a hardboiled egg rested on top of the noodles. The aroma set his stomach into a fit of grumbles and his mouth began to water. Damn it Kagome. He thought as he didn't even bother grabbing chopsticks but sipped at the food as if it were tea. He could feel Kai's wide eyes watching him.

Once InuYasha had a good portion of the meal Kagome had served to him, he couldn't help but lean back pulling Kai with him. He giggled lightly.

"How was your vacation with Nama and Sota?" InuYasha asked, which is one of the reasons why he hadn't seen Kai in so long.

"So fun, we hiked the mountain and even spent time with Grandpa." Kai gleamed with excitement, his damp hair now somewhat dry but still a crazy mess.

"Did you? Sounds like a real fun time."

"I have pictures! Let me go get them." Kai hopped off the couch and zipped off upstairs. Kagome emerged again, this time without the apron. InuYasha would sit up, taking a moment to sip the rest of the tea. She looked at him as InuYasha finished the tea, but felt some escape and drip down his chin.

She sighed.

"You are a mess." As she said that, InuYasha wiped what was left with hand.

"Yeah, well you know me." He sat the tea cup back on the tray. "Thanks."

She rolled her eyes with a faint smile as she whisked away the food tray without saying much else. InuYasha leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. He didn't expect to be here sitting on Kagome's couch, he had only planned on dropping off the papers for her. Though he felt she was doing this for Kai.

"Found them!" Kai suddenly appeared with an envelope in hand, skipping with joy. He hopped back onto the couch beside InuYasha, adjusting himself to sit just right. Once he was settled, Kai handed the envelope to his dad.

InuYasha carefully pulled out the small handful of pictures. Various pictures of mountains and hiking trails; Kai in most of them. Sota and Kagome's mother whom is known as Nama. Such happiness bled through each photo. Kai and Nama posed by several little shrines along the hiking trail. InuYasha loved seeing Kai's cheesy smile in every photo but he came across a particular photo that was bittersweet.

All of them had nothing more than a smile on their face, Kai sitting in the very front with his legs sprawled out and leaning back on his hands a bit. Sota and his mother stood side by side, Sota now a mature adult, wrapped his arm around his mother. A positive energy flowed in the photo, despite the photo being at Grandpa's grave.

InuYasha's eyes softened, Kai pointed out the fresh flowers and treats they brought him. InuYasha and Kagome had set aside their troubles around the time of Grandpa's passing, especially since it was somewhat of Grandpa's wish that we would just get along for Kai. InuYasha glanced from Kai to Kagome who was leaning against the wall, watching them. He noticed a glisten in her eye but she never let it show.

"Well I'm sure you made Grandpa very happy." InuYasha shuffled the photos back into place and into the envelope. He then rose from his spot on the couch "I've got to get going little man."

"Now! But you just got here." Kai whined

"I know, I have work tomorrow." InuYasha sighed but smiled "But, it can be just you and me all weekend. Sound good?" Kai simply responded hugging his father's leg. With that Kagome insisted Kai hurry upstairs to get settled for bed while she saw InuYasha out.

InuYasha had grabbed the manilla envelope before walking to the door, once there he looked to Kagome. Holding it out to her. "Here. As promised."

"A week or so late, but it works." She took it, setting it on a end table by the couch. "Thank you."

"Yeah, no problem. Thank you for the food." He spoke, shoving one of his hands into his pockets.

"It's nothing, I'm sure it's been awhile since you had a home cooked meal." Kagome took a jab, her arms crossed as she looked him in the eye. Though he didn't want her to know how right she was. Since Kikyo never really cooked when she was over and if they ever ate, it was most likely take out. He chose to ignore it.

As he was ready to leave the house, Kagome cleared her throat.

"One more thing."

He stood to where the screen door rested against his shoulder as he looked back to her. InuYasha wasn't sure what that one more thing was because with Kagome, she was not predictable.

"You know my feelings about her being there when you have Kai." Kagome leaned on the doorframe "You see her all the time, the weekends should be focused on Kai only."

"Look, I get it but she-" He started before she rose her hand up to stop him.

"She and you should respect my feelings and wishes," There was a softness in her eyes but her voice so stern.

"Why do you get so hung up on her Kagome." He asked, fighting back just a little. "She's not harming you." Before he knew it, his worked backfire in his face.

"Not harming me? She harmed my family and everything I cared about, InuYasha." Kagome snapped but stayed as calm as could be. "When she deserted you in the worst time of your life, I was there. I cleaned up the mess and did everything for you." Kagome had now been standing straight up, leaning forward, her face a little closer.

InuYasha stepped back just a bit, surprised by her sudden comments.

"Then again you were the last person I would would harm me but you did, so I can't completely blame her."

"Kagome what is this all about?" InuYasha asked but he seemed to dig a deeper hole.

"Are you that dense InuYasha? I guess you are not the man I thought you were." She shook her head and turned away. "Just go home."

InuYasha did not even manage to put together what fully just happened, Kagome had already shut the door, leaving him alone in the hall. Kagome and him had not argued like that in some time, though it seemed she had more say this time around. He stood there for a moment before finally making his way back out to the parking lot.

It was well into the youthful evening, seeing as how the sun had been replaced by the glistening moon above. InuYasha attempted to shake off any thoughts of what just happened with Kagome. Obviously Miroku was right, Kagome is holding back a lot but the fact is they are getting a divorce. He loves Kikyo, he loved Kagome.

InuYasha tried to not think about it but her words replayed like a bad infomercial. He felt a mix of things and just wondered if he'd catch a break.
