"Oh," Rin's voice spoke from the doorway in a slight surprise "You're here early."
"And good morning to you too, Rin." He spoke sitting up in his seat. InuYasha was at work earlier than usual; one reason, not being able to sleep well and two, Kikyo made a surprise visit the evening before. She had to leave for work early in the morning like usual so he thought since he was already awake, he'd go to work.
"Good morning InuYasha." Rin stepped in, folder in hand like usual.
"What can I do for you?"
"Sesshomaru would like to speak with you in his office."
"What? Is he too good for phone calls now?" Rin smiled but her expression insisted he go with her. He rose from his seat with no questions asked and followed the small pixie like woman out into the main floor, towards the elevators. The floor he worked on had an abundance of open cubicles where the other employees worked on; there was always a hum of conversation amongst co-workers, the ringing of incoming phone calls and the constant tattering from typing.
As he followed her, his hands rested in his pockets. Employees would greet them as they walked by, both would acknowledge them before continuing down towards the elevators. Once arriving, both of them were quiet but the silence made him wonder what was going on.
"So what does he need to see me about?" InuYasha finally asked as they waited for the elevator to arrive to their floor.
"Sesshomaru-sama will be the only one to discuss the matter." She was channeling her inner professional, though she would turn to him and smile; never did she not have a smile on her face.
"That serious, huh?" he muttered as the elevator doors pinged, opening and appearing fully vacant. As the two entered, they were stopped by a sudden voice calling out for Rin. InuYasha held out his arm to keep the elevator from closing, a man hurried from around the corner to the front of the elevator. He held a drink carrier with a single coffee with a small paper brown bag resting on the drink carrier.
"Oh good morning Saito, are those for Sesshomaru?" She asked
"Good morning Rin," he partially bowed "Yes, are you on your way to see him?"
"Yes, I'll gladly give this to him." She smiled, tucking her folder under her arm and taking the drinking carrier from him.
"Thank you ever so much!" He grinned happily; he then looked towards InuYasha "Good morning sir."
InuYasha responded with a nod as the man scurried off back to his cubicle. InuYasha then allowed letting the doors close, selecting the floor they were to head too. The two stood silently, the murmur of elevator music was the only noise within the elevator, aside from the elevator itself. Rin did not say much nor did she loose her composure.
Ding
The elevator opened the two of them exited. InuYasha followed Rin down the hall; this floor was two floors above InuYasha's floor. The floor that they were on is the floor that Sesshomaru's office was on, as well as Rin's and a few vacant rooms that are used for board meetings or any other meetings overall. Though this floor was Sesshomaru's it is still had that warm, welcoming feeling that their father intended to have; giving not only employees the feeling of positive energy but every client and possible client who walked through the door.
As soon as you were to get off the elevator, directly at the other end of the hall is Sesshomaru's personal receptionist; she was a nice older lady, even though people intend most receptionist were to be young and right out of college, Sesshomaru looked for personality and job performance.
"Good morning Ms. Rin, InuYasha, sir." She greeted them with a warm smile.
"Good morning Nanako." Rin responded, InuYasha nodded politely while he followed Rin around the receptionist desk. Behind the reception desk was a wall made of glass, though a few panels of glass were a tad thicker so not everything was visible. InuYasha and Rin went to the door on the left side of the desk that led directly into Sesshomaru's office. InuYasha walked in behind Rin to a semi large office, not much had changed in the office since when his father ran the company. The two outer walls were laced with large bookcases and full of books. Within the middle of the room, A small coffee table rested, it was surrounded by several deep burgundy colored chairs. He recalled his dad sitting in with clients or other business partners, smoking cigars and drinking coffee or sometimes imported rum.
On the opposite side from the small sitting area was, sat Sesshomaru at his desk. The wall behind him was nothing more than glass that looked over the city; also allowing the room to light up. Sesshomaru sat there signing off on a few papers while his advisor Jaken sat to the side skimming through some different files and sorting them into their appropriate cabinets.
"Go ahead and take a seat," Rin suggested turning to InuYasha, she smiled sweetly "Can I get you something to drink; Coffee perhaps or some tea maybe?"
"Water will be just fine, thanks." He sat in one of the brown leather chairs that were placed in front of Sesshomaru's desk. Rin had walked over to Sesshomaru's side, setting down the drink carrier and the folder she had been carrying. She spoke to him but InuYasha didn't bother trying to listen in. Sesshomaru simply nodded, his eyes never leaving the files that were in front of him. Rin walked from around Sesshomaru's desk, looked to InuYasha.
"I'll be right back with your water." She was then gone, the clicking of the door indicated she was clear of the office.
"Good morning brother." Sesshomaru spoke as he finished the last few papers in his pile, the word brother was slightly bitter sounding.
"Morning." He responded "So what is so important that you couldn't have just called to discuss?" InuYasha would lean back in his seat, resting his arms on the arm rests. From the corner of his eyes, he could see Jaken eyes shoot his direction and a vein popping up from his impish head.
"Show Lord Sesshomaru some respect!" Jaken spoke towards InuYasha "If it weren't for him, you wouldn't be as fortunate to have a job here." Jaken took a breath to continue on his rant but Sesshomaru had raised his hand to silence Jaken; which happened on command.
"Enough Jaken, please leave and attend your other duties."
"Yes, sir." Jaken, looking defeated, scurried away. As Jaken was leaving he could hear Rin excusing herself to Jaken. Rin appeared to the side of InuYasha's seat, handing him the water he asked for. It wasn't long before everyone seemed settled, Sesshomaru handed Rin a black folder which she brought to InuYasha.
"What's this?" he asked, setting his water down on the small end table, opening the folder and reading the contents inside.
"It's a list of clients."
"The really important ones too," InuYasha began assuming Sesshomaru was going to ask him to type up and revise new contracts.
"Yes," he looked towards InuYasha; their matching amber eyes met "These are also clients who have become former clients over the past three months."
"Former?" Sesshomaru nodded
"For what the exact reason is, we do not know entirely," Sesshomaru looked to Rin, who then handed him another folder; this one was a bit thicker. "But because of father's We Promise Agreement, we did not hold any of them to the contract and that they could leave for whatever reason needed."
Their father was all about business but also all about customer appeal. So when he their father began his business, he had started what is now known the We Promise Agreement. An agreement that a client may have a contract with them, not matter what area or conditions, if they chose to leave, change policies or for any other reason they did not want their contracts active anymore, they would cancel out the contract and whatever the We Promise Agreement guaranteed to give back to the client.
For a long time, other businesses and lawyers told their father that it would never work and he would lose profits and growth; well because of the agreement, plenty of clients liked the idea of their contracts being about them and what they saw fit. It was the ultimate customer appeal factor and that is why they had long time clients and a very small client loss percentage.
"The only connection we have to such a sudden loss is they all have seemed to have gone to a newly open contracting firm."
"All of them?"
"Yes, our inside source in situations like this managed to trace where they've signed too." Sesshomaru never lost his collect expression "The company again, about 6 months new, has seemingly risen up the chart on profit and client gain."
As InuYasha began to look inside the folder, it contained very little information on the rival business. A name, BSB&Co, fully known as Band of Seven Brothers and Company. The background information was plain and simple; a company ran by a family of seven brothers but it did not indicate any of the brothers to be the CEO. It seemed the highest in command was the youngest brother of the group, Bankotsu. InuYasha couldn't help but become a bit curious on who these guys really were and what their motives were.
"Though we do not have a great deal of information on this company, I have sources watching." Sesshomaru rested his elbows on his desk, hands folded. "From this moment on, we do not speak of this outside this office. No media, no reporters, nothing."
"I'll be working with the company publicist incase this does end up on the media circuit." Rin spoke up offering to take back the folders she had given him previously. Once she had them back, she put them away in their proper places.
"I am also having background checks done on all our employees, just to assure we do not have anyone working here as a source," Sesshomaru never moved but his eyes followed Rin before coming back to InuYasha "Simply as a precaution."
"So should we be concerned?" InuYasha asked, looking at his older half-brother.
"There might be room for concern but that is for me to work out and take care of." Sesshomaru spoke cooley "You are a beneficiary to father's company and you have your say so as well but when the time comes."
Sesshomaru left it at that, InuYasha sat there for a moment; the two of them staring back at one another. Though their relationship has been nothing but bitterness, hatred and nearly killing one another; they both understood what had to be done in order to keep the family company running without distress.
"Well if we are done, then I'll go back to my office." InuYasha rose from his seat while sipping a bit of his water, setting it back down. Nothing else was to be said between the two or of the situation, he returned to his office to continue whatever work he needed to have done.
An hour after the odd meeting with Sesshomaru, InuYasha sat in his office. Staring off into space while repeatedly clicking his pen; he let the day slip away from his.
Ping, Ping
The noise his computer made brought his immediate attention to the screen. It was an incoming email, but it wasn't an email he was expecting to have. It was from Kagome. The inbox of his email was cluttered but all he looked at was the name Higurashi, Kagome with the subject of the email reading HEY.
All he knew was he hadn't really spoken with Kagome since the night he dropped off the final forms for their divorce. He vividly can recall the entire visit, especially when he was leaving and she unleashed a lot of honesty towards him. He didn't like that he was starting feel what some people were saying was right but he had to do what he felt was best for him.
Click
He opened the email, a brief email at that;
InuYasha,
I don't know if you're busy or what, I've tried calling you and texting but could you please pick up Kai from school for me.
I'm stuck in a work meeting and cannot squeeze out of it. So if you can, I'll pick him up from your place.
Thanks.
-Kagome
As he read the email, he realized that his phone was in his jacket pocket the whole time. He pulled his phone out, seeing that Kagome had tried to contact him. InuYasha wasn't the kind of person who lived and breathed through his phone. He glanced back to the email, always so formal. That was Kagome alright.
He spun his chair around to face the windows, he didn't see why he wouldn't go pick up Kai. He was well finished with a good amount of his work, since he did go in so early today. He went ahead and texted her instead of email her.
Hey,
sorry had a meeting with bigwig. Yeah, I can pick Kai up, don't worry.
InuYasha at that point decided he would just leave a little early and walk to Kai's school. It was a nice enough day, so he didn't see why he couldn't make the best out of it. With another hour and a half before he would have to leave to make it in time, he decided to attempt to organize his desk. That when he started to recall back when Kagome was Sesshomaru's assistant and worked here in the building.
It was how they met, who would have thought Sesshomaru would be somewhat responsible for InuYasha meeting Kagome. It would have been more predictable if it were Sango or Miroku.
He began to think about hour five in a half years ago he would meet Kagome in that very office.
