Mike Royce had fallen into the lure of money. Kate had lost all faith in him even if she did love him. When he died she went after his killer with a vengeance. The problem with her being so focused on his murder had been noticed by someone who wanted her for her skills, for evil. Someone who was on the wrong side of law and order, someone who'd never stop to get what he wanted.
