"I don't get what's with him these days. He spends just as much time with Wendy and Charle as he does with me. Maybe even more!" Natsu complained as he walked beside Lucy on their way to her apartment with his hands crossed behind his head. "Happy really liiiiiikes her." She laughed at her own imitation. Natsu seemed to ignore this, keeping his eyes fixed straight ahead at some thought way off in the distance. The cool night air began to clear up Lucy's mind as they walked, the flush in her cheeks every so slowly diminishing "You jealous?" She teasingly asked "What? No way! Why would I be jealous of him?" He rebuked her accusation. "I meant of Charle..." "Why should I be jealous of her?" He asked clearly confused. "Never mind." She gave up, not wanting to explain the concept to him.
"Our little Happy's all grown up, huh?" she said trying to continue their conversation. Natsu glanced her way and cocked a questioning eyebrow, "Our?" Lucy smiled back and nodded. "Fairy Tail is like one big family, isn't it? At least that's how I've felt about it since I came here." Natsu stared at her for a while contemplating this when his face turned sour. "Then that would mean I was related to Gray! That's impossible! I'd never be related to that ice-perv! That's just way too gross!" Lucy laughed loudly at his opposition "Are you kidding? You guys act just like brothers!" Lucy continued to laugh, leaving Natsu to pout, huffing and puffing his barely pink cheeks, and folding his arms across his chest. "Seriously, when will you guys ever stop fighting and just grow up? You should act more mature; we're already in our 20's..." Lucy said sounding a bit upset at her age. "I can be mature! It's that idiot who keeps starting shit!" He replied angrily, crossing his arms back behind his head. She sighed and Natsu resumed his staring into the unseen.
Lucy looked at him, to the spot his gaze was fixated on, then down to her feet as she walked; anxious to have something to say to fill the silence. Not that she was uncomfortable with it; they had walked for hours without saying much between them before. She just felt he had been by himself a lot lately and was probably feeling... "Guess you're kinda lonely without him, huh?" She asked, not moving her eyes away from her feet. "Why the hell would I be lonely without Gray?!" Natsu shouted. "Happy, Natsu. I meant Happy." "Oh.." He was quiet for a while until Lucy looked up at his face again. "Yeah..." He answered slowly and softly, not averting his eyes from in front of him; His honesty making Lucy's flush return a bit. She smiled kind of sadly and returned to looking down at her feet. 'Of course he would, they've been together for years. Natsu even raised him. It's only natural they'd miss each other.' "I'm sure he misses you too." She offered to cheer him up. Natsu scoffed and turned his head slightly away "Yeah right. He's probably too busy flirting!"
They continued on for a while till Lucy stopped dead in her tracks and looked up with shocked realization on her face "OH NO!" Something terrible must've happened, judging from her expression. She bent her head down and squeezed it with her hands as though she had the worst head-ache in the world "HAPPY'S gonna be in a relationship BEFORE ME! I've been outdone by a cat!" Lucy's eyes watered a bit as she let herself slide to the ground in defeat, the affects of her alcohol intake still apparent. Natsu was a mixture between concerned, confused, and totally weirded out. He had no idea how to handle her when she was like this, but he always had a soft spot for a crying Lucy. He sighed and scratched his head before reaching a hand down to help up the broken puddle beneath him. She looked up at him, sniffing from her runny nose and slowly accepted the offered help.
Natsu jerked her upwards, making her jump and wobble a bit on her landing. "It's gonna take a long time before that happens. I mean Charle's only accepted maybe two of his fish and pretty much ignores him most of the time anyway. So.. Umm.." Natsu scratched his head some more, clearly uncomfortable. Lucy stopped sniffling and a wide smile appeared on her face "Aww, are you trying to cheer me up? That's so sweet~!" She teased. His face hardened and his eyebrow twitched "NO! I'm just sayin' that he ain't got a chance!" He said angrily and started marching off ahead, a blush evident on his face. Lucy ran up walking in step next to him. she giggled and leaned forward a bit to try and see his expression. "Aww, are you embarrassed now?" She said poking his shoulder. He said nothing, but turned his head away more and quickened his pace. She moved around to his other side, making him turn his face the other way. "You're so cute, Natsu~" She poked at his other shoulder and he sped up again, full on running the rest of the way to her apartment, leaving Lucy behind. Lucy didn't try to catch up, but stood watching him run away, giggling to herself. "Does he even realize that it's my apartment he's running to?" She smiled and shook her head as she continued walking the rest of the way there.
