She's a One-upper
I glared at Chase, my eyes narrowing at him, my hands on my hips. "I'm going to prove you wrong. And when I do, it'll the be the worst thing to ever happen to you." I said and stormed off heading towards the lab.
I huffed as I flipped my hair back, looking at my project with pride. I had done it, I had created a simulator that would push Chase, Adam and Bree to their limits, pushing them to get better at fighting, to really go over the edge. I smirked as Mr. Davenport walked into the lab, looking at me with curiosity. "What's this?" He asked and I smiled.
"Your new simulator for their training. It pushes them a lot more than yours ever did. It's more challenging, more gruesome, more real. It's what they need. Plus, you can use a remote to change the difficulty level. And during the first couple rounds, they aren't allowed to use their bionics because I've created bracelets to block them."
Davenport looked at me like I had just blew his mind. "Won't it hurt them?"
I shrugged. "The people they are fighting in the simulator aren't real, but when Adam, Bree and Chase get punched, it'll feel real. That way they know what to expect in a real fight."
He nodded carefully, thinking it over. "Okay. I like it. I'll go get them. But you and Chase are going first." I nodded, smirking.
They came downstairs and looked at me with curiosity. "I've created a new simulator for you guys to train with that will push you to your limits. Now, the first couple training sessions with it must be no bionics, so I created these bracelets to block your bionics so you can't use them." I passed the bionic-blocking bracelets out to the other three and they strapped them on.
"Alright, Chase and Dani, you're going first."
I smirked at Chase as I slipped on a pair of my own goggles and got in a ready stance. Chase did the same and soon there were simulations attacking us.
"Take out as many as you can and whoever has taken out more, wins." I said and smirked. He nodded and we attacked the simulations. I took out as many as I could per minute, no bionics what-so-ever.
"Your tactic isn't going to work here," I told him and he nodded.
"I figured that out, thank you very much," he snapped and I scowled.
"Well then," I said and went back to fighting. I took down 25 of the simulations where Chase had only taken down 5.
"Dude, that's sad." Adam said as the simulation faded.
"Well that's because-"
I cut Chase off by saying, "No, let him figure it out for himself," I said and smiled as Adam took the glasses and stuck his tongue out at Chase.
The two of us watched as Adam and Bree were beaten by the simulation very quickly. They both dropped to the ground, groaning in pain. I shook my head in shame for them as Donald looked at me with wide eyes. "You haven't been preparing them for the worst..." I said and walked away, to the cyber desk.
"Okay, you proved your point. Are you still mad at me?" Chase asked and I shook my head.
"I was never mad at you. I just wanted to show you up." I said and he smirked. "Now go away, I'm working," I said and his smirk dropped to a frown.
"Why? Can't I bug you while you're working?" he asked quietly and I smirked.
"No. Now go away."
I pushed his chest and he stumbled backwards before catching himself and wrapping his arms around my waist. "Go away, Chase." I said shrugging him off. He frowned and I kept my attention on what I was doing, completely ignoring Chase.
"Dani..." I ignored him and kept pulling up pictures, information, things that would be important to their training. "Dani, stop." Chase said and I glared at him.
"No. I've got to finish this work. Calm down, would you?" He pouted but I shrugged it off and went back to work.
Despite all of our complaining, Donald sent us to school the next day. "I don't feel well," I grumbled, trying to make it convincing enough. It didn't work.
"Just go to school," Davenport said and I got out of the car, huffing and shutting the door behind me. The bell rang just as I walked in and I had a free period so I headed to the library.
I sat in one of the more comfortable chairs, putting my feet up and taking out my book. Nobody else was in here except the librarian but even she soon left to go get something. I sighed and closed my book, deciding to look for Adam or Bree who didn't have classes at this time either. I found Adam first since he was eating in the cafeteria. I sat down beside him and he smiled brightly at me.
"Coming to join me for food?" he asked and I shook my head.
"No way in hell. I'm just here for the smoothies." I said and he laughed as I got a cup and filled it up, putting on a top and sitting down beside him again.
"I really don't feel like going to class today." I said and he nodded.
"I don't either! Wait, I have an idea!" I waited for him to speak as he looked at me excitedly. "Let's just not go!" I smiled widely at him and nodded so we got up and went out to the court yard and walked around. Somehow, we found ourselves at the mall, walking around and laughing, enjoying not being at school.
The frozen yogurt shop came into view and I gripped Adam's hand excitedly. "Oh, Adam, can we go? Please please please please please!?" He nodded excitedly, happily. I dragged him over to the yogurt shop and ordered as Adam paid and we ate happily, sitting on a bench outside the shop. I smiled as Adam took another large bite of his yogurt before tossing out the empty cup. I handed him the excess of my yougurt and he finished it off before tossing out that cup too. We headed back to school for the end of the day, backpacks on our shoulders.
Adam and I stood in front of my locker, arguing about unicorns.
"No, they're real!" I exclaimed as Bree walked up to us.
"No, they're not! Dani, unicorns don't exist and they for sure don't poop out jellybeans. They are extremely magical unicorns and poop out rainbows." Adam said and I smiled as he crossed his arms over his chest. I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his cheek for finally agreeing with me. Bree kept staring at us like we're crazy, as did Leo. I returned to my feet being firmly on the ground when I saw Chase watching us from the middle of the hallway, looking hurt. He shook his head and walked away, not bothering to even say hello.
"So what were you two doing all day?" Leo asked as the three of us walked towards Adam's car.
"We ditched and walked around the mall and then got frozen yogurt." Adam said happily as he got in the front seat and I got into the passenger seat beside him.
"Yeah, it was really fun."
We drove home and then went to the table to do homework where I found Chase at a computer, looking up pictures. I smiled despite our fued the day before and went over to him, wrapping my arms around him, resting my chin on his shoulder.
"Where were you today?" he asked quietly, not looking at me, still pulling up pictures and still looking hurt.
"Adam and I ditched-"
"You what?!" Chase exclaimed and spun around to look at me.
I released my hold on him. "Yeah, we ditched and went to the mall and then got frozen yogurt because we didn't want to go to school, so we left."
Chase stared at me, looking more hurt than before. "Were you holding hands with him at the mall like you were at school? Were you constantly kissing his cheek while you were out too?"
"Chase what're you talking abou-"
"I'm talking about this, Dani." Chase said, all the pictures that he was pulling up earlier were now right in front of me. There was a picture with me and Adam, holding hands because I was pulling him over to the yogurt shop, one with me kissing Adam's cheek in the hallway at school and plenty more.
I stared at the pictures and then looked at Chase. "Chase, I swear, Adam and I are only friends. He's like the big brother I never had."
Chase shook his head. "Tell someone who cares, we're through." I stared at him as he left me alone in the dining room/ living room. I stood there, shocked.
"What just happened?" I asked and looked at Bree, Adam and Leo who were standing at the island.
Bree came over and comforted me, wrapping her arms around my shoulders. "It's okay darling. We'll get you some hot cocoa and a blanket and everything will be all right." I nodded but didn't believe her. All I wanted at the moment was Chase. I shook my head and sat down in the couch.
Adam got up and sat worriedly beside me. "You okay?" he asked softly and I nodded, looking straight ahead of me. "Dani, look at me." He said and yet I still didn't. "Dani, you're starting to scare me. Dani, Dani please-" I looked over at him.
"I'm fine, Adam. Really." I said and he shook his head and hoisted me up and sat me in his lap.
"No you're not." he said and wrapped his arms around me and I rested my head on his chest.
"I don't know what to do anymore," I said vaguely and Adam shrugged, his arms still wrapped tightly around me.
"He'll come crawling back, I know he will." I nodded but yet again didn't believe him.
"Adam, don't leave me..." I whispered and he nodded, kissing my head.
"I would never dream of it." And then I fell asleep.
I woke up screaming and crying, having a night terror. Adam was awake, trying to quiet me down.
"You're okay, you're okay," he whispered and I nodded, taking deep breaths. "Here, here," he said and handed me a glass of water. I smiled weakly to thank him and he brushed my hair out of my face. "Feeling better?" he asked and I nodded. He lifted me into his lap again and I curled up into him, my head on his shoulder. "You okay?" he asked and I nodded.
"Now I am."
He smiled and kissed my forehead, wrapping his arms around me tightly. I curled into him even more, nuzzling my face into his neck.
Adam's POV
Dani had woken up in the middle of the night, screaming and crying. I had calmed her down and she fell back asleep. I'm not really sure why but it seemed like I had a second chance at being a big brother. So I could do it better the second time around. Dani was like a little sister to me.
Like Bree. Except a lot stronger and smarter too. So maybe a small version of Bree and Chase combined with more strength and and also is female. She looked so peaceful when she was sleeping, never attacking anybody or defending herself or anybody else. Just...peaceful. I almost felt...whole. Like she was the missing piece in trying to fix my relationships with my siblings. I shut my eyes and tightened my grip on Dani before falling back to sleep, protecting her with all I had.
Chase's POV
Why is it that every time I finally find something I could call my own, it's always ruined? Why is it that Adam or Bree always take away the one thing that brings me happiness? I swear that they do that on purpose and it's not fair. I woke up with a start, before anybody else. I got dressed for the day and started heading towards the island when I stopped to look at Adam and Dani sleeping on the couch. I scowled at both of them before going into the wasn't fair. It just isn't fair. Why does Adam always get the acknowledgement?!
Dani turned into Adam more and I stomped away, getting a bagel angrily and then toasting it before buttering it and putting cheese on top and then taking a bite. I heard a yawn and looked over to see Dani walking into the kitchen.
"Morning Chase," she said, rubbing her eyes of exhaustion and making herself cereal.
I grumbled a good morning and she stared at me, yesterday's events obviously coming back to her. She dropped whatever was in her hand and I heard it crash and shatter. Bree and Leo came running to see what the crash was. I opened the present bag to see a shattered mug. I pulled the mug out and pieced it together quickly, finding it to say, "#1 Bionic Hero" with hers and my initials on the bottom of the mug. I sighed and set the mug down, going back down to the lab.
"Dani?" I asked quietly, knowing she was down here.
"Go away," I heard a muffled voice say and I sighed.
"Dani, please," I knew she was shaking her head. Footsteps came up from behind me. Someone was running up behind me and as they passed me, I saw it was Adam.
In one swift motion he was sitting behind the burnt cyber desk, holding Dani in his arms tightly. I watched as he comforted her and I felt hurt. She was letting him comfort her and not me? And then I became angry. She likes Adam more than me? Fine then. She likes dumb more than smart? Fine then. She can have whatever she wants.
I stormed upstairs and started punching things, mainly the wall. My computer showed itself in front of me. "Commando app engaged," it said and then I became Spike.
Dani's POV
Adam held me tightly, constantly telling me it was okay. I felt broken and shattered. Like the mug I had made Chase. Thinking of Chase, I started crying. I never cry. Damn, Chase, why did I actually have to care about you?! Adam craddled me and I turned into him, glad he was there.
"I'll beat the crap out of him," Adam said angrily and I shook my head.
"Please please please don't. I don't want you getting hurt," I said and he smiled at me.
"I won't get hurt. I promise. It's only Chase. Bree will be down in a minute, promise."
I nodded and he kissed my forehead being older brother-like, before setting me down on the ground and going upstairs to confront Chase. I waited and then went up after him. Chase was throwing Adam around like he was a ball, beating him up easily. Bree and Leo were hiding behind the counter. I hid with them. "What's going on? What's Chase doing to Adam?!" I exclimed.
"Dani, thank God you're okay! That's not Chase, that's Spike, Chase's alternate personality when he gets mad and can't control his emotions." Bree explained.
Leo nodded to confirm it. "I think you're Adam's only hope right now." I nodded.
"Hey Spike!" I yelled, standing up. Spike looked over at me, dropped Adam and advanced towards me.
I kept stepping backwards until I hit the wall. Spike smirked and took a piece of my hair in his hand. he ran his hand through it, examining it, before looking at me. "Beautiful." he said smoothly, a voice that came out of Chase's mouth but was not Chase's voice. It was gruffer, thicker, more jock-like. It kind of sounded like the voice of an army general. I smiled at him. Maybe this Spike guy wasn't so bad... He smirked and I felt his abs against my stomach as his hot, minty breath tickled my ear.
"Maybe we could go someplace more private..." He whispered and I giggled because his breath tickled my ear even though I pushed him away.
"No way, loser. I'm not going anywhere with you. I want Chase, my Chase." I said and looked at him softly. He growled loudly and flipped over the couch, sending it across the room and shattering the dining room table. He grabbed Leo's arm -who was recording the entire thing- and threw him over the counter.
Bree was next, hitting Eddy's screen and then came Adam, hitting the elevator doors with a slam. My eyes filled with tears.
"How's that for you since you like brutes and people who act without thinking more than nerds with no social lives?!" Spike exclaimed, standing in a way that made him look like he was about to wrestle a bull and win and the tears spilled over.
"I just want Chase." My voice cracked when I said his name, showing how much he hurt me.
Chase stood up straight, blinking furiously. I watched him, tears streaming down my face. "Oh Dani," Chase said, running over to me and pulling me into the tightest hug possible.
"Chase," I breathed out his name and cried into his chest and he wiped my tears away. "What made you so mad that you turned into Spike?" I asked and he hung his head shamefully.
"I thought you liked Adam better than me. I thought you liked the strong, muscular, dumb guy more than the guy with the brains and compassion and with the skills to protect you from anything."
I smiled at him weakly, using two fingers to make his eyes look into mine. "Adam's like my big brother. I could never love him the way I love you." I said and he smiled sheepishly, his forehead pressing against mine. Our lips met for a short while before both of us pulling apart.
"Aww, they're back together!" Bree exclaimed excitedly. I smiled and kissed Chase again.
Adam crossed his arms over his chest. "Hurt her again and I will pound you to the ground," Adam told Chase and I smirked as Chase paled, probably never expecting his older brother to say that to him. I wrapped my arms around Chase's torso and he had an arm around my shoulders. I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his cheek, color returning to his face as he blushed. I smirked and Tasha came in.
"Why is my couch on the table?" she asked and Adam, Bree, Leo and I took a step away from Chase and pointed at him.
"Spike did it!" we all exclaimed and Tasha rolled her eyes.
"Great, another table."
I laughed and Bree shook her head smiling.
Chase looked like he wanted to say something but didn't know how. "I-I-I... Sorry Tasha..." Chase mumbled out and she shook her head.
"No worries, your father can pay for it."
I smirked and Chase nodded. I wrapped my arms around his torso and smiled as I hugged him tightly, squeezing him a bit. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed the top of my head. I let out a very quiet squeal of happiness as we rocked sideways on our feet for a while.
"Okay, now I'm getting bored with this..." Bree said and got up, leaving the living room to go to her new room.
"Let's go down to the lab," I told Chase and he gave me a confused look.
"But it's broken and burnt," he said and I rolled my eyes, pulling him towards the elevator.
"I know," I said, turning to smile at him. He got the message and we went down to the lab.
It must have been hours that we were down there, making out, because when we went back upstairs, it was completely dark out, no lights were on, nothing. I smiled at Chase as he led me down the hallway to my bedroom where we fell asleep cuddling under the covers.
