Electricity or Naw?
Friday
I couldn't take it anymore. Leo was bothering the hell out of me today. He kept annoying me, repeating my name, poking me, hitting me with balls of paper during class, throwing pencils and paper airplanes at my head... I got so fed up with it that I turned around and punched the locker, causing it to dent inwards. Leo's mouth dropped and I glared at him.
"Next time it'll be your face," I said and walked away. Suddenly, since rage had come over me, I wasn't watching where I was going and knocked into somebody. "Oof," I muttered, landing on my bum.
"Hey, watch- oh, it's you." One of the football players said. It was Jayden.
"Yeah, just me." I said before he pulled me up and I thanked him.
"Hey, are you coming to the game this weekend?" I nodded and he smiled. "Great can't wait to see you there."
"Was that who I think it was?" Bree asked, coming to stand next to me.
I nodded and smiled. "Yeah. He asked me if I was coming to the game..." I said and it came out more dreamily than I had expected.
"Oooh, somebody's got a crush..." Bree smirked at me.
"No, no I don't. That's not even possible, you can't be in a relationship and be crushing on another guy. It doesn't even compute." I said and she shook her head.
"Dani, you're thinking of this all wrong. Don't think like a computer, you have to think in the terms of love."
I raised my eyebrow at her. "And what do you know about love?"
She smirked at me. "I have all the mentors in the world at my side." She patted the magazines in her hand and I shook my head.
"No way in hell am I reading a fashion-love magazine." I shook my head.
"Holy shit! Dani's reading a fashion magazine!" Leo exclaimed, walking in on Bree and I in the living room, magazines spread out on the couch and on the floor, the two of us both reading up on what we needed to know. I rolled my eyes and kept reading. Chase followed him in and sat down behind me. I ignored him as well and kept reading.
Chase picked me up by my waist and placed me in his lap. "Dani, what're you doing?" he asked and I shushed him.
"Shush, I'm reading." I kept reading.
I flipped the page to the 'Who wore it best?' section of the magazine. I stared at it for about 5 seconds before yelling, "No, Emma wore it better!" Chase covered his ears and groaned. "Sorry, love." I said, kissing his cheek before returning to the magazine. I flipped through the next few pages and then threw the magazine on the ground.
"Hey!" Bree exclaimed, looking at me.
"Sorry, Bree. That thing just hasn't helped me at all. At all!"
She shook her head. "Then find another one." She said simply, like it was so easy. I looked around with something on the cover of the front page that may help me. But I still found nothing.
I sighed and crossed my arms, leaning back into Chase.
He wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed the top of my head. "What're you reading those stupid magazines for?" Chase asked and Bree gaped at him. He ignored her and looked down at me.
"I needed advice, that's all." He nodded and kissed my cheek.
Bree and I went shopping after that and hit up a few clothing stores and then hit the bookstore.
"But Daniiiiii..." Bree whined as I gripped her wrist and dragged her into the bookstore.
"Bree, you can buy magazines in here, you know." She perked up after that and left me alone so she could go catch up on what she missed in the past couple hours. I, on the other hand, headed towards the Harry Potter books to look for merchandise, as well as look for other books.
I finally found what I had been looking for, Nevermore by James Patterson, the last book of the Maximum Ride series so far. I bought the book and took a seat near the Starbucks to start reading. After a while of reading and getting lost in the fictional world of seven 2% Avian kids, a voice spoke to me.
"So, can I get you something to drink or do I have to return to the pleasure of watching you read?" My head snapped up to see Jayden sitting across from me.
"Hey, what're you doing here?" I asked and he smiled.
"Working, but I'm on break for a little while. Now, about that drink..."
"You really don't have to Jayden."
"But I do. A hot girl with a chill drink is the perfect combination."
I giggled a little bit. "Alright, I'll take a Cookie Crumble Frappuchino please. But I'm paying for it."
He shook his head, "Nope, it's all on me!" He went up and paid for my drink and then brought it back to me. I thanked him and closed my book.
"I had no idea you worked here." I said.
He shrugged. "I don't exactly talk about where I work all the time."
I nodded and a group of girls passed us, giggling. "Hi Jayden," they said in unison and waved. Jayden smiled and waved back. I sipped my drink awkwardly.
"So Maximum Ride, huh?" he asked and I nodded. "I have yet to finish the last book. Which is what I bought. Hence why I'm here. Besides the fact that Bree dragged me to the mall."
He nodded in understanding. "Ok then. I should probably get back to work, I'll see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow, Jayden." He waved and I waved back just as Bree took the seat he was previously in.
"Okay, details, now." she ordered and I told her. While we chatted, I saw Jayden watching us from behind the counter out of the corner of my eye.
A small group of people came up to us. "Hey babe," Chase said and I dropped my book on the table and wrapped my arms around his neck tightly and excitedly.
"Hey!" I exclaimed and he chuckled. Leo and Adam pretended to puke. I stuck my tongue out at the two of them.
"You dragged Bree in here, didn't you?" Chase asked me and I nodded.
"And I see you dragged in the daring duo." He nodded.
"I promised them I would buy them a pretzel if they came to the mall with me to pick you two up."
"You couldn't find somebody to take you, could you?"
He shook his head. "Absolutely nobody." I nodded and stood on my tiptoes to kiss his cheek. He wrapped his arm around my waist.
"You two ready to go then?" Leo asked and I nodded.
"As long as Bree paid or pays for her magazines, then yes." Bree nodded and rushed to the counter, paid, and skipped out of the store happily. I waved to Jayden as we left and he waved back. Chase kissed the top of my head and held me close to him. I smiled as we walked out of the bookstore and to the car.
We got home quickly and Adam recklessly parked the car in the garage. "Adam!" I exclaimed as he put the car in park.
"What?" He asked innocently, turning his head to look at me.
I gripped the headrests tightly. "Remind me to give you parking tips later." I said and he nodded. We all got out of the car and went down to the lab. I grabbed my book and sat in Chase's lap as I read.
After a couple of chapters, Chase interrupted me. "Hey, Dani, can I ask you something?" he asked sweetly.
"What is it Chase? You're interrupting in the middle of my book."
"I was wondering if you wanted to go on a date with me later...?" he asked and I turned and kissed him. "So is that a yes?" He asked when we pulled apart. I kissed him again.
"Obviously," I whispered.
"Alright. We'll leave at 7." I nodded and kissed his cheek before running to my room to get ready.
I took off my clothes and hopped into the shower, the hot water running down my back. I took a few more minutes and then got out before partially drying my hair with a hair dryer. I frowned into the mirror as I looked at my reflection. I tried different hair styles but nothing seemed to appeal to me. I walked into my bedroom to see my outfit laid out for me. I smiled and read the note that Chase left and then put on a pair of pajama pants and a top before heading into the living room. "Bree, can you braid my hair for me please?" I asked her and she nodded.
She struggled for 15 minutes before giving up. "Nope, can't do it." I sighed.
"Ooh, ooh, I wanna try, I wanna try!" Adam exclaimed and I smiled.
"Alright, have a go." I said and turned to him so that my hair was ready for him to braid. He tried but only got it stuck in a giant knot.
"Thanks for trying, Adam." He nodded and took a bite of his peanut butter sandwich. I sighed.
"C'mere, I'll braid your hair." Chase said and I smiled.
"Thanks." He nodded and I sat in front of him as he expertly braided my hair into a bun.
"You're the best!" I said and kissed his cheek before running back to my room to put on a little bit of makeup and my dress that Chase picked out for me. It was a plum color that went up to about mid thigh and had one strap. It was a gorgeous dress. He also got me a matching clutch.
I slipped on the dress and put my phone in the clutch and smiled at my reflection in the mirror. I put on a pair of tan 3" heels since I was only about 5'3" and Chase was 5'8". I left my room and walked into the living room as everybody except Chase was eating dinner.
"Dani, you look drop-dead gorgeous!" Bree exclaimed and got up to hug me.
"Aww, thanks Bree." Adam and Leo's mouths were dropped.
"Wow," was all Leo could say.
"You look very pretty, Dani." Tasha said and I smiled at her, a blush creeping up to my cheeks.
"Thanks Tasha." I smiled just as Chase walked in.
"Wow." He said and smiled. I turned around to look at him. He was wearing a black tux and a purple tie. He looked really good.
"Wow yourself," I said and smirked.
"Ready to go, babe?" he asked and I nodded.
"Wait, where are to two going?" Davenport asked, finally looking up from his dinner.
"I'm taking Dani out on our first official date," Chase said proudly.
"Yes, but where?"
"To that new restaurant that just opened up downtown."
Davenport nodded in approval. I waved as Chase put his hand on the small of my back and we left the house and climbed in to the small limo that was waiting for us outside. "Wow, Chase. This is all so fancy. Where'd you get the money to do all of this?"
"I borrowed some from Mr. Davenport. I'm sure he won't miss a few hundred dollars when he's got billions." I nodded and rested my head on his shoulder and watched him, smiling.
"What're you smiling at?" he asked.
I said, "My wonderful, caring, handsome, generous, intelligent boyfriend."
He smiled at me and kissed my nose. "You're amazing." he said and I cuddled up to him, giggling.
We got to the restaurant and the driver opened the door for us and Chase helped me out. "My my my, isn't this place fancy..." I said and he nodded as we walked towards the restaurant arm-in-arm. We walked down a red carpet and pictures were being taken of us. "Is it the grand opening?" I whispered and he shook his head.
"No, this is just something super special for you."
I smiled and kissed his cheek, still having to go on my tippy-toes to do so. He chuckled a little bit just as a waiter opened the door for us. I thanked him and he nodded, smiling.
"Mr. and Mrs. Davenport I presume?" The waitress at the walk-in stand asked and Chase nodded. "Follow me." We did as said and she led us to a table secluded by red velvet ropes.
"Chase, this must've cost you a fortune!" I said and he shook his head as he held out my chair for me.
"It's all worth it." He pushed me in and took his own seat.
"You really didn't have to spend so much money on me. I really would have been okay with just going to the pizzeria and ordering a large pepperoni pizza."
He shook his head and took my hand from across the table. "No, I wanted this night to be perfect, to show you the life you deserve." I smiled at him.
"Chase...that is the sweetest thing anybody has ever said to me!"
He smiled as a waiter came up to us. "Can I take your order?" he asked, smiling. I looked down at the menu but Chase ordered.
"Yes, we'll take the Chef's Choice please and some champagne if you don't mind." I handed the waiter my menu and he took it before returning with the champagne and pouring it into two glasses and leaving the bottle.
"Very fancy," I said and Chase smiled at me.
"Only the best for my best friend in the world."
I smiled at him and squeezed his hand a bit. "To us," I held up my glass of champagne, "Without us, the Davenport's lives would be as boring as watching paint dry."
He smiled, "To us." We clanked cups and each took a sip.
"Holy shit that's amazing!" I said and set the glass down, in shock.
Chase nodded, in shock as well. "Wow, I'm so glad that he left that bottle here, we're going to need it."
I nodded but stopped his hand from reaching the glass again. "Let's not go too overboard, okay?"
He nodded and smiled at me. "You always know the best limitations." I smiled at him and we talked for a little while about random things.
"Okay, okay...hmm, how about favorite color?" Chase asked and I smiled.
"Easy, Aquamarine."
"Why's that?"
"It reminds of the ocean. Okay, my turn. Favorite book?"
He tapped his finger to his chin. "Percy Jackson series." I smiled widely at him.
"Okay, favorite food?" he asked.
"Chocolate!" I said immediately, "only because-"
"It makes the Dementors go away." We said simultaneously.
I nodded and smiled at him just as our food showed up. "Your dinner, is served." The metal covers on the plates were removed, revealing two plates of Rendang.
I looked at it in amazement. "This chef obviously knows who he's cooking for," I looked up at Chase. He smirked at me.
"That's because I called the restaurant two days ago to set up this meal. He knew we were coming, knew that you loved anything that was related to coconuts and meat."
I smiled at him. "You really get me," I said dreamily and he smiled before cutting his dinner.
"You should try this, it's amazing." he said, his mouth full of food. So I did try it. He was right. As always.
"Okay, random question. Oblivion?" I asked after taking another small sip of champagne. "And don't give me a scientific answer," I said as he looked like he was going to answer.
He set his drink down. "All of my fears come true," he answered. I cocked my head to the side and he explained, "My worst fears is not knowing. Without my chip I only have the average human intelligence. I like knowing things and am afraid of not knowing." I nodded. "What about you?" he asked and I shrugged.
"It's inevitable but I don't mind it. As long as the people that I love miss me, that's enough for me. I may want the world to know about me but not for the world to miss me when I'm gone if they don't know my name. Frankly, I'd like to see what would happen." He nodded like he understood.
"Your dessert," our waiter said and set down two slices of double chocolate cake in front of us, taking our dinner plates.
"Chocolate!" I exclaimed and he smiled at me.
"I love your excitement." he said and I smiled back at him.
"And I love you." I reached across the table and kissed his cheek. He blushed a little bit and I smiled, just as the smell of chocolate hit my nose again. I immediately ate some of the cake, savoring the flavor. "Oh my gods, that's amazing." I said and he nodded.
After dessert, we took the check, paid, and left, leaving a tip. We got back into the limo and I giggled. "I had a lot of fun with you tonight, Chase." I said and he smiled.
"I had fun with you too." He kissed me lightly. I kissed him back and then we pulled away. He looked into my eyes. "You look beautiful tonight, Dani," he said and I giggled.
"And you look very dashing, Chase. By the way, I love the dress. How'd you know?" I asked and he shrugged smugly.
"A boyfriend never reveals his tricks to his girl."
I smiled and kissed his cheek. "So, are we heading back home then?" I asked and he nodded.
"Oh, good. These heels are killing me." I said and slipped them off. He chuckled and wrapped me up in his arms and kissed my head.
We got home and Chase tipped the driver a large sum of money before we walked inside, hand in hand. He walked me to my bedroom door and we stood there and faced each other.
I smiled widely at him. "I had a great night, Chase."
He smiled down at me, "I did too. I couldn't imagine any other girl to be in your spot." I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his cheek. "Meet me in the living room in 5!" he exclaimed from the other side of the doorway and I nodded, changing into sweatpants and a hoodie quickly.
I walked into the living room, greeted by him sitting on the couch with a large bowl of popcorn beside him. I smiled and sat beside him, criss-cross. He smiled at me and held out the bowl to me. I took a handful and shoved the popcorn in my mouth. He laughed and laid down on the couch, putting his head in my lap. I smiled with popcorn stuffed in my cheeks and made him laugh again. He turned up the volume on the TV and we were watching Rolie Polie Olie on Netflix. I smiled widely and leaned down to kiss him. It was one of my favorite children's shows.
That's another thing that Chase and I have in common. The love of Children's shows. He smiled at me and I took another handful of popcorn, giving him some.
"DANI! CHASE!" Tasha yelled. "BEDTIME.
I frowned and she walked into the living room. "Tasha, we are 16 years old-" Chase cleared his throat and I corrected myself, "-16 and 17 years old. We don't have a bedtime. So it's late, it's fine!" I tried reasoning with her.
She raised an eyebrow and I tried to stare her down. "No Dani." She said firmly.
"But Tashaaaaaa..." I whined, "Rolie Polie Olie is on..." I pouted. She shook her head firmly. "Mr. Davenport!" I yelled.
He yelled back, "Don't bring me into it!"
I pouted again and then Chase and Tasha had a stare down. She won. I pouted and Chase turned off the TV. I grabbed the bowl and said, "Fine, but we get the popcorn!" We went down to the lab only to see the other three still up. "Does Tasha know you're up?" I asked and they shrugged.
"She does nowwww..." Eddy said and showed Tasha on his screen.
"Capsules, now!" she exclaimed. The three other bionics ran into their capsules. "Bed!" Tasha yelled and Leo sprinted for the elevator. I slowly walked over to the cot that I had installed when the floors switched so I could just hide it and then bring it back up when I wanted to. I laid down and got comfy under the sheets.
"Nope," Chase said and picked me up bride style, blankets and all. He carried me into his capsule and I looked up at him, pouting. He gave me a pout of his own and I gave in, standing on my tipytoes to kiss his cheek. He wrapped me up in his arms and I relaxed against him as we fell asleep in his capsule.
A shrill shriek came from what sounded like a girl, standing in the lab. So it was either Leo, or Mr. Davenport. I blinked a few times at the rude awakening. Chase held me tightly to him, waking up because of the shriek as well. We got out of his capsule and saw Mr. Davenport staring at us.
"What?" Chase asked and I wrapped my blankets around me even more, because it was so cold down in the lab.
Chase wrapped his arms around me again, trying to keep me warm. "The power's out." Davenport said. "On the other hand, YOU TWO SLEPT IN THE SAME CAPSULE."
I frowned. "What's the big deal? It's not like we did anything except sleep. I mean, Adam, Bree and Eddy were all down in the lab last night. Not much we can do." Chase nodded in agreement with me as he rested his head on my shoulder.
"Kisses!" I exclaimed and escaped Chase's grasp and ran over to Eddy, kissing his screen a few times.
"Ew ew ew ew ew ewwww!" Eddy exclaimed and I smiled. "Why would you do that?!" Eddy exclaimed.
"Because you looked cold." I turned around only to be faced with Chase pouting. "No, no don't you dare pout." I said and he pouted even more, adding in the hazel puppy dog eyes. I couldn't stand it. I ran over to him and kissed his face. I kissed his right cheek, his forehead, his left cheek, his nose, his temple, the corners of his mouth... he kissed my lips and I couldn't stop myself from smiling into the kiss.
"Not exactly how I wanted to wake up, but good enough." Adam said, walking out of his capsule. As he did, Chase placed his hands firmly on my hips and I entangled my hands in his hair, messing around with it in my grasp.
Bree walked out of her capsule as Chase and I were still in the middle of our kiss. I could hear the tiredness in her voice as she spoke, "Why is it so cold?" I smiled as Chase pulled me closer to him, probably thinking I was freezing when I was really more worried for him.
"The power's out," Davenport explained and then there was silence. I knew the three of them were standing there awkwardly, not knowing what to do.
I pulled away from Chase and looked into his eyes. He smiled down and me and I smiled back up at him. I turned around to face Mr. Davenport and Chase wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his chin on my shoulder.
"So since the power's out, we're all going to have to stay in the living room until it's fixed. And since I'm too lazy to fix it, I hired a guy who will be here in an hour or two, but I don't know how long it'll take."
Bree groaned and Adam complained but I just tugged on the blankets over my shoulders and kept them around me snugly as Chase and I walked hand-in-hand upstairs to get breakfast. He made a bagel and we shared it, each eating a half and then cuddling on the couch. Chase wrapped his arms around me and played with my fingers like he always did. I giggled and looked down at our hands.
"Oh no..." Bree said as she walked into the living room. I looked over at her. "Chase is doing the hand thing again," she mumbled. I rolled my eyes and returned to watching Chase mess around with my hands.
"Oh, leave them be, they're just being themselves," Tasha said.
"Yeah, geeky and weird is their preferred way to go!" Leo said cheerfully-sarcastic and Adam laughed.
"Hey, maybe they could use their geekiness to beat each other up. It would be a nerd fight!"
Chase and I both looked at him, turning our heads simultaneously. "A nerd fight?" Chase asked.
"Really?" I said and Adam nodded, smiling widely.
"It sounds fun! Nerd fight, nerd fight, nerd fight!" He tried to chant it but nobody joined in. I rolled my eyes and turned my head back to look at the blank, white wall.
"Mr. Davenport, do you happen to have excess paint and a few paintbrushes?" I asked the older man and he nodded, going to get it, not even questioning why. He brought it back immediately and I squirmed out of Chase's grip, grabbed some masking tape, taped the wall so the others didn't get dirty and then started painting. I didn't even bother with Tasha's loud protest and just kept going, an idea forming into my mind.
After an hour or so, I stepped back and looked at my work proudly, my arms crossed. "Dani, that's...amazing! I had no idea you could paint like that!" Chase exclaimed and came up behind me.
"Neither did I," I said and smiled at him.
"Wow. It's us. All of us." Bree said and I nodded.
"Yeah. As a family. And a team." I smiled at the Davenports, "It's to thank you guys for everything."
"Group hug!" Adam exclaimed as everybody pulled into a group hug.
"This is nice. I'm glad I can spend this time with you guys." Chase wrapped his arm around me as Bree nodded.
"We've said it once, we'll say it again. We're glad you're part of the family, Dani," Leo said.
I smiled as everybody pulled away. "So...what to do now is the question..." I mumbled and Bree already had brought out magazines, Adam decided to try to make dinner with his eyes and Tasha started a fire in the fireplace and set candles up around the living room.
"S'MORES!" Leo and I both yelled and ran to the fire. Chase sighed and brought s'mores stuff over. Leo and I put marshmallows on sticks and began to roast them. Chase sat behind me, wrapping his arms around me and watched the fire. He covered both of us with blankets even though there was a fire.
A few hours later, the power still wasn't back because the guy hadn't come yet. I frowned as I stared at the door. "Wait...how come we're waiting for some random repair guy to fix the power when Chase and I can do it ourselves?" I asked, turning to look at Mr. Davenport.
"I-I...I didn't think of that..." Davenport said and I smirked. I stood up, shoved the marshmallow in my mouth and dragged Chase to the electric box in the lab. He grabbed a screwdriver and handed it to me as we both analyzed what had to be done.
As we were finishing up, I had the screwdriver in my mouth and was just twisting some of the wires back together bafore closing the box. "Pull the lever, Chase!" I exclaimed and he did.
"Wrong lever!" I yelled as I ran for cover under a table as the appliances went out of control. Chase pushed the lever back up and then pulled the right one. The lights turned on, as did everything else.
"Perfect," I hummed and set the screwdriver on the table. Chase smiled and took my hand in his own before we headed back upstairs.
When we got there, nobody was there. Like they ditched us and left the house. I bit my lip and Chase's grip on my hand tightened. He didn't look afraid, but I knew he was, just like I was.
"Oh Chase..." a voice sang and I held my breath as Chase flinched. He obviously knew that voice. "Chase...come out, come out wherever you are!"
I started pulling on Chase's arm, heading for the door. "Chase, baby, we need to go. Please, come on." I whispered and he still didn't move. I touched his cheek with my free hand, standing right in front of him. "Chase, whoever that is obviously knows you. And if he has the rest of our family, we're their only hope, as long as we get out. We need to. Now." He nodded and we tip-toed out the door, closing it silently behind us.
"Well, well. Look what we've got here." A man said. I turned away from the door to see Chase petrified, frozen from fear, flinching.
"Who are you, and what do you want?" I asked bravely.
"I'm Viktor Krane, and your boyfriend belongs to me." He growled and I raised an eyebrow.
"Oh, so you're Chase's mother!" I said, planning on ticking this guy off. I remember seeing him when Douglas tried to blow me up but it didn't think he had a grudge on me or Chase.
I held out a hand for him to shake. "I'm Dani, his girlfriend," I smiled and he glared at me, reaching for my hand, probably to flip me over or something, but I didn't give him the chance. I grabbed his hand, flipped him over my back and he landed on the ground.
Krane quickly got back up and tried to use bionics on me but I froze him in a block of ice. Of course, it would melt, but it would take some time. For now, I had to find a way to un-petrify Chase.
I rolled my eyes at him, still frozen in fear, and then picked him up, carrying him to the pool in the back of the house. I quickly detached his hand from my own and threw him in the water, knowing he would unfreeze.
That only seemed to make it worse.
Chase started screaming as soon as he got to the surface, begging for help, saying things like 'Don't kill me, I was a good boy!', which, of course, tore my heart out.
"Chase, baby, shh, I'm right here, no need to be afraid," I said softly holding my hand out for him in the water.
He looked around, not thrashing anymore but still paranoid. "He-he's gone?" Chase asked.
I nodded, planning on telling him what really happened later. "And you're okay. So swim over to me and let's get you inside, yeah?" I said and he swam over and I helped him out. He was shivering so I quickly dried his clothes with a strong blast of hot air.
We walked inside, Chase still shivering and paranoid. I made him sit on the couch and he kept looking around every few seconds. I pulled one of the feet rests over and sat in front of him.
"Chase, you wanna tell me what just happened there?" I asked and he shook his head. My brave, strong, courageous boyfriend now looked like a traumatized toddler. And somebody was going to pay for it.
"Can you tell me about what just happened?" I asked. Chase thought for a moment and nodded.
"Will you tell me about it?" I asked and again, he thought for a moment, except this time he started to nod but then shook his head. I sighed.
"Chase, I need to know why you were petrified. What did that Krane," Chase flinched when I said the name, "guy do to you? You flinch every time you hear his name. I just want to help."
Chase shook his head again, squeezing his eyes shut, holding himself tightly like it was his only way of comfort. Which didn't seem to be working.
I moved my seat and sat beside him. "C'mere," I whispered, opening my arms for him. He turned and curled up against me, resting his head on my shoulder. I wrapped my arms around him, just holding him tightly.
"I won't let anything hurt you, Chase. I promise. The scary bad guy is gone now." I whispered in his ear and he nodded as I rubbed his arms comfortingly. "Sleep, baby. You just need to sleep." He nodded again, curling up even more into me and closed his eyes, falling into sleep.
Not too long after, I heard muffled yells from down the hall. I laid Chase down on the couch gently and then super-sped over to the muffles. Everybody was tied to Donald's exercise machines - not that he ever uses them. I untied them all quickly, and took the gags off their mouths.
"Some man named Viktor Krane is here!" Bree exclaimed and I grabbed her before she could run.
"I know, I caught him. He's out front trapped in a block of ice."
"Nice," Davenport said, fist-bumping me.
I smiled. "He's not going to be frozen for long, but while we have the time, we should be prepared. Also, lock Chase in the lab with Eddy watching over him. That Krane guy really seemed to want Chase. And Chase was petrified when he faced the guy. Not even battling with him, he just saw him and froze," I said.
Donald frowned. "Where's Chase now?" He asked, immediately wanting to see his son.
"The living room," I said and he and Tasha ran out there. Bree, Leo, Adam and I shared a look and we followed them immediately.
Tasha and Donald were kneeling in front of a not-so-peacefully sleeping Chase. I frowned and walked over to them, standing behind the couch. Chase was twisting and turning, seemingly having a nightmare. I reached down and tried to hold his hand but he ripped away from me immediately, throwing me off balance.
I fell on the ground and Chase shot up, breathing heavily. I stood up and put my hand to his forehead. His head spun to look at me immediately. I smiled weakly and moved my hand across his forehead, brushing his hair out of the way. He turned to look at Donald and I kind of felt upset by that, but I didn't dwell on it.
"Daddy...what's going on?" Chase begged his father with pleading eyes. I had never heard Chase call Donald Daddy, and obviously nobody else had either. A cry in a desperate situation.
"I don't know, Chase. I don't know," Donald said, shaking his head. My breathing hitched and Chase's heartbeat quickened. I put my hand on his back and began to rub circles, trying to calm him down.
Chase turned to look at me, tears welding up in his eyes. "Promise me you won't leave," he whispered.
I nodded immediately, "I promise Chase, I'm always going to be here for you. I promise." He nodded and took my arm and kissed my knuckles once. I smiled slightly, not sure why he would make me promise something like that, but whatever he needed to feel secure, I would do it.
