Kirk and Wendy arrived at their destination quickly and Kirk pressed the control to open the door. Inside was an extremely luxurious officers' lounge; complete with leather furniture, a bar, and even a large flat screen television. Wendy's eyes almost popped out of her head. This was nice. Really nice. She began to feel a little more nervous.

"Wow, so this is what you've been hiding in here." She wise cracked, trying to keep her voice from doing the same. That was extremely lame. Kirk simply grinned, ushering her inside. She did so and decided to take a seat on one of the leather couches.

"Would you like a drink?" Kirk asked politely.

"Sure. Anything but gin."

"What's wrong with gin?"

"Don't get any ideas, Captain. It just doesn't agree with me." Oh why did she say that? That was far too much information for a first date. Or was it? There is no reason she should be feeling so nervous. This was just her captain. He did look nice tonight though. He'd donned his formal gray uniform and he even combed his hair as opposed to his normal gelled number. This brought a smile to Wendy's face. He was trying hard to impress her. Little did he know he already had.

Suddenly, Wendy saw a drink in her face and felt a warm body next to her. She blushed slightly, taking the drink from him.

"Dinner will be served shortly," Kirk said.

"Perfect. In the mean time, tell me about yourself, Captain."

Kirk hesitates. None of the women he'd been with before have ever asked him that. It was always simply, "You're cute. Let's go back to my place," or, "Oh, you're a captain? Let's go back to your place." They were never interested in him. Yet, Wendy seemed genuinely interested.

"Well, um," he cleared his throat, "there really isn't a whole lot to know about me."

"That's bull. Tell me something I don't know about James T. Kirk."

Kirk chuckled at the use of his full name. "Ok, well, I was born in Iowa."

"Yeah, yeah, and I was born in Illinois. They're basically the same place. You can do better than that. Here, I'll go first; when I was in cadet training there was a whole week where I missed class due to the worst hangover of my life." Kirk gave her a skeptical look. "I'm serious! Nyota talked me into going to a party and, like an idiot, I did. Someone had to have put something in my drink. Fortunately, she stayed by my side the entire night but the hangover was terrible. Like I said, it lasted an entire week."

Kirk raised his eyebrows and smirked. "So you're a secret party girl. The librarian type." Wendy's blush returned full force.

"Ok, your turn," she decided to deflect the conversation back towards him. Now it was his turn to be put on the spot.

"Alright...I guess, uh, when I was younger, maybe 9 or 10, I stole my step dad's car. It was a bright, red 1965 Corvette Stingray. Convertible and everything. I was acting out and managed to drive it off of a cliff. The cops brought me home to face his wrath." His voice picked up a twinge of sorrow.

Wendy felt a little bad now. She had forgotten that her captain had grown up without a substantial father figure. Maybe it explained his personality.

"I'm sorry, Captain I-"

"No, no. It's alright," he interrupted, "I actually feel...better." Before they could continue, dinner arrived and the two migrated to a table in the center of the room to eat. It was a wonderful three course meal. The two chatted intimately as they ate their meal, retiring to the couch again once they were finished.

The rest of the date went off without a hitch. The two learned more about one another. Embarrassing stories, wounded moments, happy moments. They were both still a little nervous though. Neither one had ever really opened up to anyone like this before.

Wendy smiled and nodded as Kirk told another riveting tale of his antics that somehow saved the galaxy as she looked at the time. She gasped, not realizing it had gotten so late.

"Captain, I hate to cut your short but it's getting late and I need to be up early to check on the Augments."

Kirk pulled her hand into his own and said, "Very, well. I won't keep you from your duty. But, I want you to know I had an amazing time with you this evening."

Wendy's face began to burn and her stomach riddled with butterflies "Thank you...Jim. For a wonderful evening. I had a good time. Maybe we can do it again?"

Kirk smiled as he leaned in, Wendy doing the same. Their eyes fluttered closed and their lips met briefly.

"Captain, you'd better . . . come . . . quickly," the red shirt stuttered out the last part of his sentence when he realized what he was interrupting. Kirk hung his head and heaved a sigh of defeat. Wendy had to laugh. He kind of looked like a child who was just told that he had to go to bed early.

"Don't tell me. . . ." Kirk trailed off, not really wanting to know if his theory was correct.

"Khan attacked one of the med techs who was performing tests on Leo," the red shirt replied. Kirk groaned.

"Tell Dr. McCoy I'll be there as soon as I can," he ordered. "I've got to escort Dr. Cole back to her quarters first."

"You don't have to do that, Jim," Wendy interrupted, but Kirk shook his head.

"I'd like to end this date right," he smiled, making her blush. Again.

He rose from the couch, then offered his hand to help her up.

Several minutes later, he was headed to the med bay, internally cursing the two Augments for ruining the best date he'd had in a long time. When he entered the med bay, he saw Leo and Khan standing in a corner, surrounded by at least a dozen guards. Khan had Leo pulled closely to his side with his arm firmly around her waist. Kirk got the impression that he wasn't going to let anyone near her anytime soon. Leo seemed a bit annoyed at the whole thing, but wasn't arguing at the moment. Then Kirk walked over to a bed on the other side of the room where a med tech was seated on a bed while Bones tended to a nasty bruise on his cheek.

"No wonder Leo's so laid-back all the time," the chief medical officer grumbled as Kirk walked up. "She's got a six-foot tall guard dog ready to attack anyone who even looks like he might some time be thinking about hurting her."

"What happened?" Kirk asked, choosing to ignore the comment.

"She started resisting us," the tech answered. "Said she didn't want to do anymore tests."

"And that's when Khan stepped in?"

"Yes, sir. He told us to leave her alone and finish up another time. I made the mistake of telling him that we were gonna do the tests anyway."

"And so he hit you?"

"No, sir. He hit me after I grabbed her arm."

Kirk groaned and rubbed his face with his hand.

"Thank you. I'll talk to you later, Bones," he said as he headed to talk to the couple in the corner. Khan pulled Leo closer to his side as the captain walked up.

"Don't you think you're being too over-protective?" he asked, frowning.

"Do you really think that I would let you–" Khan was cut off when Leo gently placed her hand on his chest.

"There were so many tests and instruments I'd never seen before," she explained, not looking the captain in the eye. "I . . . got a little scared. I'm sorry."

Kirk looked at her, not sure if she was sincere, or trying to avoid a fight. He decided on the latter.

"Well I can't just let this slide," he said. "I'm going to have to separate you."

"We're not children!" Leo shot back.

"Yeah, well it seems like being together is the most important thing to you two. So if this is what it takes to keep Khan in line, that's what I'm going to do."

Kirk motioned for the guards to take the two away. They seemed reluctant to separate the two at first, but Khan didn't resist when they gently pulled Leo away, although she still held onto his hand. He stared at Kirk coldly, but Leo didn't take her eyes off of Khan's face. She grew more anxious when he wouldn't look at her.

"It's alright, love. I'll be right behind you," he finally said as they started to pull farther apart. He gave her hand a reassuring squeeze as the guards ushered her out the door, staring at Kirk the entire time. The captain was sure that if looks could kill, he would be dead fifty times over.

Don't grow up, guys. It stinks. I've been doing theater non-stop pretty much all summer. Not that I really mind, but I didn't have a lot of time to write.
