[P R E L U D E]
August 22, 2006.
They were all present when the police took him away. Hidding behind the ordinary, like they always did. Naomi Misora had caught him, that was true. But his former partners were the ones who pointed her to the right places, told her where to look. B was sure Naomi was aware by now that she wasn't working alone. He could tell by the way she kept gazing over her shoulder. They all came to make sure she brought him down unhindered, and she knew she was being observed.
B couldn't hold back his laugh.
"Can't you see you've been played? You are mere tool for them, for him, Naomi Misora", he said, turning his head around, trying to get better look at her face.
"And you are a crazy bastard", she replied, pushing him forward. "Not shut it or I'll gag you".
He laughed again. She was afraid of him.
They all were.
"Wouldn't you like that?"
Naomi tugged at his arm, and commanded him to walk faster. A police vehicle was waiting to take him in at the end of the cordoned area.
They had an audience. People from the houses nearby had come to see the show, to see the Wara Ningyo killer in the flesh despite the hot weather of that dreary afternoon. The police was having a hard time keeping them at bay. They were taking pictures, so Beyond Birthday made sure to smile for a couple of them.
That's when he saw them.
He noticed F first.
He was wearing black tainted sunglasses and pretended to be reading a newspaper. But he knew, even a dozen meters away from the cordoned area, he was staring at him and smiling. The bastard. B never liked him, and the recent events had led him to conclude the feeling was mutual.
B lost sight of F whem Naomi Misora handed him to a group of officers who hurried him to the car.
He had noticed the others already too. C was blended among a group of curious teenagers near the police barrier, her hood was up hidding the blue locks of hair. Not so far, next to a phone cabin, he caught a glimpse of D's silhouette. The street light poured cold above his shaved head, as he held the black phone to his ear, pretending to call someone. H was at the wheel of a black van, parked outside the cordoned area, most likely waiting for the team to exit the scene. She was the guardian, the guardian who let A die.
They were all going to pay for what they've done. To him, to A…
Specially L.
It was all his fault to begin with.
It will always be his fault.
As he was driven away in the back of a police car, B promised himself two things. One: he wasn't going to stay in prison for too long, and two: he was going to find a way to destroy the Network and defeat L once and for all.
A smile crept to his lips. Time and patience were the key, and where he was going, he was going to have all the time in the world.

Author's note: this story is an idea that has been flying around my head for a while now, ever since I first watched L save the World. The network you can see in Watari's laptop at some point is fascinating (all those letters, some blacked out) and I wanted to work with that. Hopefully you'll find it interesting enough to give it a chance. It is also meant to be as a LxOC story at some point, and is going to get involved with the Kira case in a AU way.
Happy reading! :3
