"Your time here has been fulfilled." Her voice was soft and settle. The dark void of his consciences was cold and unsettling.
"Dear David, you have seen what your ancestor has seen. You shall know your truth as to why you have awakened as the Sage." She spoke as he felt the warmth of an embrace pass through his body. He felt as if he were already dead and awaiting his next life into the unknown.
David could feel his body and soul being touched by this warmth. A sense of peace He hasn't felt in such a long time. He wanted to speak but he felt like he couldn't. He was searching around him in this dark place. The woman's voice called to him and He listened. What if Altair? What if the fate of the assassin's? His ancestor?
"Calm yourself young man. There is sense in all this as you have noticed." Her words sent warmth through him once more, like a mother to a child when he is crying. David felt tears strolling down his cheeks as the overwhelming sense of peace and calm overcame him. This woman's voice shushed him and continued to speak calmly.
"When they found a piece of Eden, your ancestor was awoken after a long deep sleep. He was the protector of it and we placed him in his long sleep to ensure that no one disturb it." She paused, unsure on how to explain further. David wiped his eyes but confined to shed tears. Seeing his ancestor through his eyes made David feel closer and understanding that Altair has much more in common with him than He realized.
"When the Templars unearthed the piece of Eden, somehow, your ancestor was nowhere. He must have awoken earlier and traveled to find the assassin's. Unfortunately, I cannot say why he was found without clothing. He must have been disoriented and he found no need for clothes. I believe your ancestor felt the danger and when the two assassin's found him, every memory he had vanished." She could see David's face. Worn and tired not making him the soldier he once was. She felt regret for having this man being born into A Sage- even if he did not know. His ancestor did not want the same fate for his next reincarnation and everyone after. He wanted to be forgotten and never to live a life where He could be killed for being something that no one understood.
"Sages were feared and killed. I know you know this from having been told by your ancestor." David closed his eyes and took a steady breath. She waited for him to speak. It may not have been the answer he wanted, but it is what happened. His ancestor woke up and wondered into the mountains to be found by the assassin's.
"What happened to him?" David asked.
"No one but Altair knows. Sages were people who wanted to live a life away from humanity. But man got curious and they wanted help from God. The pieces of Eden are powerful weapons and those who have the blood of the first people can calm those weapons. Sages protected the pieces and placed them away from men. Assassins and Templars have been at war with one another for many, many years. There is no true way to live because man has the power of freewill. You take that away from man, man will revolt." David could see lights in the distance. Images of past events through time shown before him. The many deaths and the rise of man to power only to kill those who were against him.
David saw himself in an image. "Hannad. Who was He?"
"A man who feared for his life. He knew where the pieces of Eden were kept. The once Holy Land is nothing more then a land buried with blood. You have been there and saw what lies behind the veil. Man always wants to know and when they seek, bad things happen." Her voice faltered sounding sad.
"Why me?"
"Because the line of a Sage must continue."
He saw a bright light through a dark tunnel. Images flashing quickly before his eyes as he felt his chest tighten and his heart pounding hard against his bones. His hands clenching something soft underneath him. He had trouble breathing and with each breath his chest tightened. David did not understand what was happening to his body.
The flashing images of the maps, of faces that he did not know. David was confused and scared. Was he dead? He opened his mouth to let out a horrible scream and found himself being held down by force. They held down his arms and legs. They had to make sure David did not take out his iv's or did anything to cause harm. He was screaming like a madman and they understood why.
David continued to thrash about, but his body was weakened. His eyes adjusted to the blinding lights to see that he was surrounded by walls. Walls that were not stone. Walls that were not familiar. He felt as if he was back in his own body. He felt weak. He felt hungry. He could hear the sound of machines and the panic voices around him. He had to calm himself and He knew this. But, it all happened suddenly. The time gap and the questions.
He felt his jaw tighten and his head aching. He yelled out once more through a hoarse voice. He struggled once more against those holding him down. The machines monitoring his heart and pulse spiked up until David controlled himself. Tears were falling from his cheeks and he felt exhausted. He closed his eyes and sleep took over.
Jane looked over to Ryan as he sat down in his seat. Those holding onto David let him go and took a step away from the bed. Jane felt a sigh of relief and happy, but there was concern because David would want to ask questions.
"He is stable, for now." Ryan said.
"Everything normal with his pulse and heart?" Jane asked.
Ryan checked the monitors and seeing that the lines and his heart rate have normalized themselves. It has come to a surprise that David woke up in his own without any help, but his reaction to his surroundings had been violent. It might be best to put him under surveillance.
"Yes. Let David rest for the night." He said and Jane could not help but agree with her partner. It has been a troubling and testing time for them and the progress David made had given them enough research.
"Should we give the council out findings?" Jane asked.
"They have to know at some point. Even with the threat growing, it is better if we move David to an undisclosed location. They council will not be pleased, but the risk right now is too high." Ryan was right, Jane thought.
She gathered her things into her arms. It was going to be a long conference with the council of David's condition. It will either end badly or without hesitation. The council were very formal on matters, but Jane was certain that given David's condition, he will recover. But what scared her was his refusal to seek help after going through all that. His mental state will be venerable and he will need guidance.
Ryan noticed a far off look to her face. She always got that way when she was thinking. Her thoughts were her own, but she was feeling some relief. All he could do for the time being is be support. As they gathered their reports, Ryan made sure to have someone go in and check on David. They could not risk having another violent episode.
For now, he lay there sleeping with a serene look. All that mattered was that David was in a safe and secure place. Security was tight and they could not lose David. He was valuable to them. But he was at risk. Ryan had to convince the council to keep Ryan secured and away from any unwanted attention. The secret about him being a Sage has caused a lot of the assassin's to speak up with concern. It was their duty to protect David and train him in the way of assassin's.
But, what concerned everyone was the thought of David refusing to be trained under the assassin's.
He awoke feeling rested, but sore. His mouth was dry and his head was pounding. He looked around him noticing that he was in a room. There was little to nothing here in this big of a space. A standard restroom in the corner, a desk with two chairs, a television, and a window with a view of the outside world. It seems that he was in a hospital room, but looking closely enough, David noticed that there was remnants of computer wires still stuck in the sockets. He knew he wasn't in the crusading time anymore and that he was back in the present.
His stomach growled loudly and he placed a hand in it to maybe soothe the rumble. There was a tray next to his bed with food covered. David wondered how long it's been there and knew it was cold. Though, his hunger for the best of him and reached out until he noticed an iv and he could feel something sticking to his chest. He rubbed his eyes trying to convince himself that he was finally back in his own time. It was strange, because he has gotten so used to being around Altair, Malik, and the culture that was the assassin's.
David felt an emptiness at having to think of the thought that they were now long dead. He drowned at the thought, but he reached over to the plate of food. His mind was numb and his body moved on autopilot. There was much that has happened and He was trying to comprehend it all. Moving through the eyes of his ancestor has given him much thought. Maybe a better understanding of who he is as a human being.
After finishing his meal, David looked out through the window. He could see the city lights and the sound of cars foreign to him now that he has waken. Closing his eyes for a moment, a flickering light flashed and he quickly opened his eyes.
He rubbed his eyes once more and the symbols flashed before his eyes. David did not understand why this was happening again, but he did not panic. It might just be his mind trying to come up with a solution to how he woken up. Either way, David later back down on the bed with his eyes staring up at the ceiling.
'What happens now?' He thought to himself.
He was back in his own time- in his body now. What was there to do? He should question how he got here to this place. It did not seem to be a standard hospital, but it wasn't some mental institution. Maybe his wife called an ambulance the day he blacked out. David sighed knowing he was going to have a long conversation with Jane. There might be a consequence and if he had to explain to his wife about what he saw, she may see it as stress from his flashbacks of war.
Who would believe him? Who would believe a man who was in some kind of coma? Of David told the doctors that he was seeing things through someone else's side and He was with some secret society, they would call him crazy. But, it all seemed real. It was real.
He sat up on his bed thinking much more. Moving his hand to the iv arm, he took it out in an instant. The small pain hurt him for a few seconds and little blood came from the small hole. He knew he had to someone get away before they put him in a mental institution.
He was afraid to take off the sensors on his chest in fear of alerting anyone that was monitoring him. David sat up in the bed feeling his bones crack and his body trying to cope with moving after being bedridden for sometime. He would have to rest a bit longer and stretch his muscles. Moving his legs over the edge of the bed, David scouted over to prepare himself for standing up.
Taking a deep breath in his sore lungs, his feet made contact with the cold floor. He noticed that he was wearing grey sweatpants and had no shirt on. He could see how much weight he lost and noticed that what was muscle now was nonexistent. He looked skinny and lanky, but he still had some muscle left in him.
His legs ached and wobbled when he put his weight on his legs to stand, he could feel the blood rush back to his lower region. David knew he could not move much because of the sensors, but he was determined to walk and get used to his body once more. Moving his toes, his fingers, and bending down, David was now certain that he could take off the sensors.
"So, you are awake I take it." Said a man in a white overcoat walking inside of his room.
David felt his heart jump and his instinct taking control. The man placed his hands up in-front of him in defense, but David sat back on the bed seeing as the initial shock took a light toll on his already weak body. He had to close his eyes shut to kelp from having a heart attack. David could not have anyone walk up behind him or surprise him. It would trigger his flashbacks.
Ryan noticed this and soon regreted having startled an already anxious soldier.
"I am sorry to scare you and take you off guard, David." He said with an apologetic look on his face. David almost could have knocked this man to the ground and not have noticed it.
'Don't let the darkness win' The steady voice of Altair echoed in David's mind. It causes his to place his hand on his chest to calm himself. He missed the assassin, he admitted to himself. Altair was a man of few words, but David found wisdom in his words.
David took a deep breath in and steadily let it out his mouth.
"Who are you? Where am I?" David said.
"I am Ryan. Where you are, well, let's just say that you are in a safe place." He gave David a soft smile.
"Your not answering my question. Where am I? Am I in a hospital?" Ryan could see that David was a man who got straight to the point. He could only wonder if what he was to tell him would David follow through with it all? There was one way to find out.
"You are in a hospital of sorts. You are the only patient here, so I guess it does not qualify as one. We do have medical staff here and a clean environment. Mr. Webster, do you understand what it is that you've been experiencing?" David raised a brow in confusion.
"I am not understanding," he trailed off.
Ryan took a deep breath and sighed. This was going to be a hard pull for David to swallow. They were already in borrowed time and the council were not ones to be very patient.
"I am sure you understand when I explain it to you. When your wife found you, she called us. David, I know what you saw through the eyes of a man who was your ancestor. Everything that happened, and what you are." Ryan said every word with ease to David.
"How? Who are you?" Ryan could see that David was asking more questions. He sighed once again, but with a sense of irritation and annoyance. For a man who was in the military, he was not so observant as one can be with his training. He might have to go into detail about how they saw and even were given information about David. Though, Ryan would have to save some parts for Jane. She has a lot of explaining to do to get husband. He felt bad really for having to continue speaking even though Jane was hiding away like a coward. She had to face the music sometime.
"It isn't obvious yet, David? I am giving you hints about who we are. We have studied and researched you. We kept our eyes on your whereabouts. When you came back from deployment, we had to make sure you were in a right state of mind. Deployments can be hard on some soldiers, but after your mission overseas, we had to observe you." David had to process every detail. These people Ryan were talking about have watched him. They even knew about his deployments and somehow gotten information about his mission in Afghanistan that took a soldiers life.
"Then you must know about my lineage of what you say is true." David spoke fearing the answer.
"We know many things, Mr. Webster. From what we gathered, your ancestor was more then human. Seeing it all through his eyes must have confused you. Yet, you endured it until his last moments." Ryan watched as David looked away from him.
The man was silent for a moment. Ryan felt uncomfortable in seeing how David seemed, too calm for the predicament he was in. It was hard to distinguish what the man was thinking. No amount of training could have made up for this moment. Ryan was not one to let someone intimidate him. But David was a very talk man, and if he gained back his weight would probably best him and some of the other assassin's. If anything, they also had to be aware of the bleeding effect. It could be used as a useful tool but at the same time something to be cautious of. It was crucial for David to understand that he needed the assassin's.
"It might be a scary thought coming back from a medical induced coma. Seeing the world you have grown accustomed too, only to find out it was not your memories. It may take time to regain your thoughts, but as of now there have been signs of danger. You may be in a safe place, but there are those who know of your existence. I ask, as someone who has been in the order since my birth, is to ask you something." Ryan said. "The assassin's will be willing to train you and keep you out of the hands of the Templars. We also have to make sure you are recovering well and have too look for minor set backs. You have been exposed to something dangerous, but also to something helpful."
David's eyes widened with shock. "Assassins? In this day in age? That cannot be possible."
Doubt was present in his voice. That emptiness he felt before was suddenly being filled with hopes of the truth. David felt a close bond with the brotherhood and knew some of their ways. But everything flew out the window the moment he heard the footsteps of someone else. All eyes turned to the person and David's feeling of momentary place turning back into a blank empty canvas.
"Jane?"
