Ian swallowed thickly and turned to look at Ali who just rolled her eyes and motioned for him to get a move on. He gave a thank you to the woman who had come to fetched them and, after a moment of hesitation that made Ali groan, he began to take shaky steps forward and into the building. He felt fear bubble in his chest as the building loomed over him and his weapon partner but he hoped his lord would keep him safe.
They entered the door of the restaurant and the woman, who had followed silently, shakily guided them to a table with an odd looking man at it. He had long, matted hair with what looked like wolf ears on top of his head. He looked as if he was just skin and bone with how thin he was. When they came up to the table, they noticed he was giggling like a little girl and his wide eyes were clouded with a crazed glaze upon his slit gaze. His rugged clothing hung on his frame and he giggled louder when they were in his sight.
Ali made a discussed face at the creature while Ian shivered when the insane gaze stayed on him. Neither had taken notice in how empty the place now seemed, their focus only on the wolf like man. A laugh escaped his lips as the impish grin somehow stretched even wider and pointed, stained teeth glinted at them.
"Y-You wanted to see me?" Ian asked, trying, but failing, to hide his fear. A laugh was his answer. "Sir?"
"Hehe so this is the meister?" The thing finally spoke. "Hehehe, you look tasty."
"I-I'm sorry?" Ian squeaked, taking a step back. Ali narrowed her eyes and frowned at the creature.
The man, creature thing just continued to laugh when he suddenly sprung up from his seat and lunged at the pair. Ian let out a cry of surprise while Ali turned her arm into a blade and blocked the attack from the sharp nails that the other wielded. She grunted from the surprising strength from the skinny man but dug her feet into the ground and pushed back with all the strength she could. The creature jumped back with a laugh dripping with madness.
Growling, Ali turned to Ian. "Would you just wield me already?!" She shouted at him. Ian shook his head and backed away from the battle.
She didn't have any more time to argue with him because the creature attacked once more with a loud cry. His boney arm flew forward and his claws glinted with malice as they slashed at her. She scowled and went to block before throwing her other arm out and shooting knives at the man. He got hit by the sharp blades but seemed clueless to the hits as he continued with his own attack. Ali gritted her teeth and tried to push against the surprising strength but it was proving to be futile as the man was relentless. Her footing was lost and she fell to the grounded with the man grinning over her.
He threw a punch her way and she rolled to the side, jumping to her feet. She clutched two knives in her hands and gritted her teeth, looking back at her meister who seemed to be avoiding her gaze. She focused back on her opponent and her eyes widened. She jumped back three times, avoiding slashes that flew her way. She bended back just in time as one bypassed her chest and when she straightened, she drew her arm back and let her knives fly.
"Ian!" she hissed, trying to grab his attention while she wrestled with the man grinning sardonically at her. "I need some..." she yelped, "help here!"
"I-I'm sorry!" her meister exclaimed, taking another shaky step back.
"Why are you so nervous?!"
The man giggled and grasped her wrist, flipping her over her back. She groaned and immediately shielded herself with her arms, blocking the attacks. She removed a hand and grabbed another knife, the blade colliding with his claws. She saw this as an opportunity and pushed him off balance. She sprinted back and wiped away the sweat on the sides of her face, breathing heavily.
"Who would've thought that the weapon would have more guts than the wielder," the man mused, lips curling in amusement. "Without the guidance of the meister, a weapon will not function."
Ali was getting tired of this. "Shut up! I know that!"
He cackled evilly. "Find another one then!"
"Our wavelengths match," she muttered under her breath. "I don't know if anyone else will match with mine."
Ian looked at her with surprise and was about to say something when she barred her teeth and threw knives once again. The man glared at her and jumped out of the way, bringing his arm back and extending his claws. He ran towards her, ready to wound her when she pushed herself off the floor and slammed against his body. They toppled to the floor and she growled, grabbing his hands and holding them together.
He looked at her with distain. "Are you mocking me?" he grunted, swinging his arms down and breaking free from her grip. She gasped and fumbled for another knife, but in her panic she forgot where she put her spare. Her eyes widened and she stumbled to the ground, the man's form looming over her.
"Ali!"
She saw something flash in the corner of her eye and she whipped her head around to find her knife. She gave the man a quick glance before reaching for it, her teeth biting down on her bottom lip. She felt the handle with the tip of her fingers and gave it a flick, the knife spinning to her palm. She took it and sprung back to her feet, holding it in front of her with confidence.
The man clicked her tongue at her, shaking his head. "Such a waste of talent."
She flinched and gripped the weapon tighter, paying no heed to his words. She told herself that he was just distracting her. He was trying to find an opening. Well, she wasn't going to give him that.
She drew in a sharp breath and tossed the knife as fast as she could, the blade spiralling towards her enemy. He pushed it away with his arm and charged for her again. She grabbed fistfuls of her hair and looked around once again. Anything would work. A stick. A dull blade. A plank of wood. A shoe.
Her eyes widened. A shoe!
She took her shoe and held it in a position so that the heel was facing him. When he got closer, she slammed the heel hard against his head and he howled in pain. She released the shoe and pushed him to the ground, pinning his body with her own. She formed a fist with her head and pulled back, ready to strike him.
She swallowed hard. "Don't underestimate me."
He cracked a grin. "I should be the one saying that!" He shook her off and took her wrists with his hand, eyes glinting with mirth. He laughed and moved to slash down at her throat but was stopped by something else slamming into him. With a cry, the creature was flown across the room and Ali and Ian turned to look at what had caused that to happen.
There stood a female with similar looks to Ian. She had a frown upon her face and when she saw the other two looking at her, she scoffed and turned back to the battle. Ian knew who this was. It was his sister, Melinda, and her husband, who was the mace that rested in her grip.
"Let's take care of this." She said to the weapon. A man appeared in the reflection and gave a nod before vanishing. The creature stood up from where it had crashed and gave a large smile. With a laugh, it rushed at the duo. Melinda jumped over the creature and within her hand, her husband changed into a katana and she slashed down at the villain. It let out a screech from the slash upon its skin and turned to face her once more. Melinda's expression was cold as she stared at the creature before running forward to knock it down and stepped on its back.
The creature scrambled to get out from under her but it soon went limp as her husband changed back into a mace and she crushed the thing's head. It vanished leaving a floating red soul before her. Her husband changed back and collected the soul while she turned to the duo on the ground still.
Her eyes met Ian's and she spoke. "Ian."
"Melinda." He responded in a whisper.
