I do not own.
"I want all personnel to drop everything and look for this guy, Six. Don't hurt him; we still need him to help Sam!" Al ordered as people scrambled around him. He himself grabbed some tranquilizer darts and loaded it into a gun. He had checked on Gooshie. The computer programmer was fine, just shaken up. Six was not aiming to kill, which was a good thing. He hoped he could convince the man that they were not his enemies.
Meanwhile, Sam rubbed his temple as he listened to Rex's long narrative about himself or rather the host he was currently occupying. They had walked to the cafeteria where he sat across from the boy who was able to fill him in better than Al could have.
"So let me get this straight, I use to be a mercenary; I now work for an organization that protects people from EVOs, which are created when nanites bonded with your cellular structure become corrupted; And I am your mentor?"
"Well, more like a nanny but more aggro." Rex corrected.
"Right." Sam almost groaned. He had to remember to stay in character. He was trying his best to channel his father who was the most stoic man he personally knew. "And what's the story with Dr. Holiday?"
Rex brightened up. "You like her." He declared.
Sam perked up. "I do?"
"And she likes you… well, the old you… before you lost your memories… the first set of memories… not this time… although I'm not sure about this time…" Rex rubbed the back of his neck. "I guess I'm starting to confuse myself."
"No, I think I'm starting to get a picture here." Sam muttered.
"You mean you're starting to remember?" Rex asked hopefully.
"No, not yet… but there are things… that sound familiar." Sam said half truthfully.
"There you are!" Holiday appeared with her arms crossed. She did not look amused. "Where did you go to the bathroom… Niagara Falls?"
Sam tried not to wince. He had forgotten about the exam. "Sorry, I was just catching up with Rex." He stopped when a look crossed her face. "What? What did I say?"
"Nothing." Holiday's voice wavered. She quickly turned around. "Come on, let's get you checked out."
Sam got the sense that he somehow upset her. He glanced at Rex for help. He also had a curious look on his face. "What did I say?" He asked him.
"Um, you've never apologized before." He said.
Shoot. This is harder than he thought. He left Rex to chase down the doctor.
"Holiday, wait." He practically ran to catch up to her. When he reached her, she didn't look at him. She just kept walking. "I'm not quite myself." He tried to explain.
"I know." She answered quietly. She then powered ahead.
The door slid open and she went in with the doors sliding closed in his face.
Sam was wondering if this was perhaps what he was there to do. Steeling himself, he walked in. Her back was turned to him. Without turning around she flashed another picture on the screen.
"What do you see?" She asked as if they were never interrupted.
"Someone who is upset." Sam answered.
That finally made her turn around. She stared at him. "I'm fine." She said curtly. "You, on the other hand…" She trailed off.
"Yes?" He prompted her.
"It's nothing." She shook her head frustrating Sam. "I just want to make sure you're not… hurt."
"Well, other than a little amnesia, I feel fine." He lied. In fact, his head was throbbing. He could really use some aspirin.
"Why don't you take the rest of the day off to recover?" She suggested as if he never spoke. "Just lie down in bed and maybe sleep it off."
Sam with no other choice just nodded. He walked to the door. Then sheepishly turning around, he asked. "Um where is my room?"

Al walked down the corridor of the building. Where can that blasted man be? He looked around carefully. Something in the corner of his eye moved. He turned his gun in the direction of the movement but Six was faster. The tranquilizer gun flew from his hands down the hall. Al took a swing at him but Six dodged it and managed to hit him in the chest. Al staggered back wheezing. But he knew that it was not a killing blow but one to incapacitate. Al was trained in combat too. He swung again but he faked a left and brought his right across his face. It was Six's turn to stumble back. He touched his face where a bruise was forming.
"So you know how to fight." Six narrowed his eyes.
"Boxing champ in the army." Al told him. "Look, Six, we're not trying to hurt…" He stopped when Six lunged at him. They toppled onto the floor with Six trying to pin him to the ground. Al used his legs to push him off. Racking his brain for something to help him get through to Six, he tried something Sam had said. "It's not just Sam you have to help. It's Holiday."
The expression on his face changed. "If you hurt her…" Six said in dangerous tones.
"No, no. We're trying to help her. When Sam leaps into someone, it's to help someone in trouble. If you don't help us, he'll be stuck and someone could be harmed." Al hoped he sounded convincing. Six scowled. His eyes conveyed the conflict he was going through.
"Listen, I'm telling the truth. What can I do to convince you?" Al asked.
"I want to see Rebecca… and Rex." Six demanded.
Al nodded. "If I show them to you, will you cooperate?"
"Yes." Six said simply.
A few minutes later they stood in the imaging chamber.
"Where are we?" Six asked suspiciously.
"This is where the magic happens." Al said proudly. "Now remember you can't touch or communicate with anyone. Your brain wave patterns are not synched to Sam's so he won't be able to see you either."
Six nodded wondering if this was all just a really bad dream.
Then out of the blue he was in Providence. A grunt walked right through him. Six turned around stunned.
"Told you." Al said. He looked around. "Now where's Sam? SAM!"
A door slid opened. Six saw himself poke his head out and motioned for them to come in. The door then slid closed. Al nonchalantly walked right through the metal door. Six stood indecisively before also walking through the door.
His body and Al were in mid conversation.
"She's distraught that I lost my memories. Rex filled me in that she likes the old me… I mean him… maybe I'm here to get them together." Sam was telling Al.
"What?" Six asked.
Al glanced over at him. "Oh, hey Sam before you go on, Six is here."
"Here?" Sam spun around.
"His brain waves aren't synched. He wanted to make sure that Rebecca and Rex were okay." Al told him.
"Rebecca?" Sam frowned. "Oh, you mean Dr. Holiday."
"Yes, Holiday and if you did anything to her." Six threatened.
"Relax, lover boy. He can't hear you." Al told him.
"What did he say?" Sam asked.
"Nothing important." Al interrupted. "Looks like you found out more than I did. Chuckles here, wasn't exactly cooperative."
"So with what I've found out, can Ziggy find out what happens in the future?"
Al smacked the beeping device. He stared at it incredulously. "That can't be right. First off it says that there was an explosion several years ago that caused small computer chips to be embedded in everything. This caused an outbreak of mutations… Sam this never happened in our time line ever!"
"Maybe that's why Ziggy says we're not even in our world." Sam groaned.
"Sam, can you leap into other dimensions?" Al asked.
"Well, although the project was only for time travel, String Theory does say that parallel dimensions exist and if I leap enough, it's possible to leap not only horizontally but vertically as well." Sam theorized. He shook his head. "So what does Ziggy say about his future?"
"Uh, let's see." Al's face went white.
"What?" Sam hated to ask.
"It says that Six was… tried and convicted of murdering… Dr. Holiday before he… took his own life." Al said hesitantly.
"No!" Both Sam and Six said simultaneously.
"I would never hurt Rebecca!" Six exclaimed. "Your computer is wrong."
"When does this happen?" Sam asked.
"It happens… next week." Al said aghast.
Suddenly, Six grabbed Al in a head lock. "Get me back into my body now!" He demanded.
Sam could not see Six but could see the odd position that Al was in.
"Six, wait! Can you hear me?" Sam called frantically into the room.
"Tell him, I can." Six told Al.
Al nodded unable to talk because of the choke hold.
"Six, if I'm in here, it means that I am here to help fix something that went wrong. You have to trust me that I would never let anything to happen to Hol… Rebecca. But I'm going to need your help. Let go of Al. I'll have him synch your brain waves and we can talk. How's that?" Sam offered.
"If he tries anything funny, I take you out." Six let go of Al. Al quickly stepped away from him gasping for air.
"You need to take it easy, buddy." Al straightened his tie. When Six merely glared at him, Al sighed. He typed something into Ziggy. Six felt a slight buzz. Then he saw Sam looking at him.
"Hello Six, we have a lot of ground to cover." Sam told him dryly.
"I want to see Rebecca and Rex first." Six demanded.

After being coached on how he should act, Sam walked out of his room.
"What are you doing?" Six demanded.
"I'm going to the lab to show you Holiday." Same said exasperated.
"No, you're walking all wrong." Six growled.
"What? How am I supposed to walk?" Sam asked.
"You look like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. I don't swing my hands." Six snapped. "Like this."
Sam watched as Six walked down the hallway.
"So you want me to walk like I'm stalking someone?" Sam asked.
"Nah, it looks more like he's got a stick up his…" Al started saying.
"Not now." Both Sam and Six said.
"Great. In stereo." Al muttered.
"Fine, you walk and I'll copy." Sam told him. Six began his stride and Sam tried to follow. It looked unnatural as he hesitantly walked down the hall. When they reached the lab, the door slid open. Holiday stood with a frown.
"Who are you talking to?" She asked.
"Nobody." Sam answered tersely remembering his coaching.
"On the cameras, you just stopped and it looked like you were talking to some invisible… oh I don't know… What do you want?" She asked tiredly.
"I…" Sam realized he did not think this through.
"Tell her that I want to see the reports of the exam." Six answered.
"I wanted to see the reports." Sam mimicked.
"I haven't written them up yet. I've been busy studying your brain wave patterns. They seem irregular." She said wearily. "I'm going to see if Rex found anything in the training room."
"What's wrong with my brain waves?" Sam asked.
"I'm not sure; it doesn't match up to your usual ones. I'm going to have to take another reading." She walked past him.
"She's got great legs…" Al observed.
"Look at her again and I take out your lung." Six growled.
"Guys, knock it off. If she does another brain scan she can figure out I'm not you." Sam hissed at them.
"Ziggy says that's not a problem. Since Six's brain pattern is synced to yours we can swap his with yours when the time comes. But we might not even have to, if we can fix the problem and get you to leap." Al pointed out.
"Okay, then let's figure out what happened." Sam said.
"Wait. I want to see Rex." Six interrupted.
"Seriously? We're on a schedule and you want to go visiting? You saw the doc, you don't need to see the kid too!" Al huffed.
"It's okay, Al." Sam interjected. "Rex was very helpful before. Maybe he can shed some light on this." Both Sam and Six strolled down the hall.
Al threw his hands in the air but followed anyway. However, he kept punching in keys. The device beeped and whirled.
Just as they reached Rex's room, someone shouted from behind them. "LOOK OUT!"
All three spun around. Sam saw a strange rhinoceros-like creature charging at them.
"Oh boy." He squeaked.
So, I guess some people are reading? Well, I hope you're not too disappointed but thanks for the reviews. And I always finish my stories... baring any unforeseen circumstances... knock on wood.
