-1I've been dying to write a sequel to Halfling, but I wasn't sure which story to tell. If this goes as well as the first one or better I'll write the third and final chapter of Bella & Edward's lives-well, you could debate that I guess! I was inspired to write this by another fan fic I just read. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who thinks Edward would take it this way, too. Now, without further ado… Beginnings.

I put my phone back in my pocket and climbed back in my new Volvo. The newly-wed feeling was perfect-especially for surprises! It had been a few days since I'd been alone with Bella so why not come home early?

I started the car and backed out onto the dirt road. I grimaced at the gust of dust that covered my tires. I'll wash the car tomorrow, I thought as I sped onto the lonely road back to Juneau.

I turned up my favorite CD and sand along, but my mind was too busy thinking about our lives so far. Our transition to Alaska had gone smoother than even I could've planned. Alice gave us the most beautiful wedding which at least half of Forks came-the Blacks included. Bella wasn't happy about that at first, but she's not mad at me anymore. After our honeymoon we both packed our things, and Charlie helped us load the car. He promised to visit us on Christmas which could be a problem, but it was only September…three days until Bella's nineteenth birthday! And I had the perfect present to give my still human wife. Once she met some of our neighbors who went to the college she allowed me to have more time…but only a few months to see if she liked it. I prayed she wanted to graduate from college, but I knew better than to push my luck.

After the two hour drive home the city signs of Juneau, Alaska surrounded me and pointed my way home. We lived inside the city limits, something new to me, in a small house to my standards about seven miles away from the campus. The two story, red brick house was now in front on me as the sun settled down for the night. I laughed to myself; Bella wasn't used to the early setting sun just yet.

Once out of the car I ran to the door, but my wife wasn't the one who looked at me. Her friend Jody was sitting on one of bar stools at the kitchen island. She was drinking a Pepsi and reading a celebrity magazine when she looked up and me and smiled.

"Welcome back, Ed! That was some trip? When I called yesterday Bella told me you'd left for the weekend with some old friends of yours," she greeted. Jody was nice, but I could only be around her for so long before she became annoying. Her time was already up.

I smiled polity at her before hanging up my jacket in the entry closet. I looked upstairs hoping to see Bella, but Jody started talking again.

"She's on the phone. Her dad called, and then she dashed upstairs. She sounded mad. This was oh…fifteen minutes ago?" I saw the scene inside her head, but Bella was more than mad. I wanted to rush up the stair and cradle her in my arms, but it would be rude to leave a guest alone.

I forced back a growling moan before walking over to the girl. I had no idea what I was going to say to her, and her mind was no help either. All she thought about was Brittany Spears's latest problem.

"So where did you go?" she asked as she glanced back at her magazine. I mentally panicked for a second, and I searched my mind for nature parks on this side of the state, but none came to mind. She didn't help me by telling me what Bella had told her so I was clueless about what to say. I didn't have a chance to answer, to my relief.

Bella was walking slowly downstairs, head down, eyes wet. In her left hand dangled the living room's cordless phone. With her right she pushed her brown hair behind her ears.

"Sorry about that, Jody. Charlie didn't have good news," she mumbled from the livening room. I ran over to her and held her close to me. I kissed her forehead and resisted looking into her sad eyes.

"You're home," she sighed into my shirt. I pressed her closer, careful not to crush her. She looked up at me with her bright brown eyes, mostly dry by now. Her soft lips met my granite ones and stayed stuck for only a second. I stroked her hair, waiting for her to be the first to speak.

She broke away and whispered, "later," before sitting beside Jody. The two girls gossiped about nonsense while I unpacked in our room. I'd only brought an extra shirt and of course my wallet and cell phone. The shirt in the bag still had spots of blood that didn't wash out in the creek; I'd try to get those it in the washer.

After changing my clothes I listened, hoping Jody had left. I growled in frustration at the sound of her voice. I took a few deep breathes to calm my annoyance and walked back down to sit with them. Jody, a smart girl at least, seemed to understand my tension and came up with a place she "had" to be. As Bella and I closed the front door behind her I grabbed my human around the waist and took her upstairs.

"Bella," I whispered through her hair. We were laying across our full sized bed- Bella refused a bigger one- hold each other tight.

"Charlie says hi," she muttered as she kissed me again. I began stroking her hair again, still waiting for her to explain her tears. She sighed and continued. "Jake ran away after the wedding. He's not back yet, and Billy's worried. Sam has been looking for him, but no luck. I'm worried." I sighed and rolled over onto my back. It slightly bothered me that she worried about that wolf so much, but for sake of peace I comforted her.

"He came back before, and he will again," I promised her. I know she didn't fully believe me, but she left it go. I hated it when she did this to me when she was upset, but it was so hard to resist her sexy moves as she successfully seduced me. It was good to be home.
