Previously:"This is what were have planned, yeah." Deidara said as he pointed toward Kakuzu who held a key glowing with chakra.
"What's that for?" Tobi asked. "Dumbass." Itachi and Hidan thought.
"You'll see kid, you'll see." Kakuzu said smirking.
"Itachi, you know what to do when the time comes." Deidara thought as he looked at the Uchiha. As if he read Deidara's mind, Itachi nodded without looking at him.
Chapter 14 - All For One…One For Us
Konoha was quiet as all the citizen headed for shelter. Shinobi of all ranks, standing around their village all on the defensive. Tsunade was on top of the hokage tower with Gaara, Shikamau, and a couple of other guests. The sun began to disappear behind the mountains, giving off a deadly shade of night over the leaf village. All of the three man teams along with their former senseis stood near the gate as the waited for the first sign of intruders. Naruto gulped as a small bead of sweat rolled down the side of his face.
"They're coming." Neji informed them as he deactivated his byakugan. His and all the other teams of the nine rookies stood together, watching the large wooden doors of their home village.
"T-there's more than a t-thousand of them." Hinata said, as she too, deactivated her blood line.
Akamaru started to bark something. "Don't worry buddy, we're all going to get through this alright." Kiba said, as he patted his old friend on the head.
Tenten gripped a scroll, that was strapped onto her side as she and the rest felt tension in the air. Ino and Choji gave each other reassuring looks, silently hoping Shikamaru was there with them.
"No need to get too worked up before the battle. Just remember everything you've learned over the years. We all have a common goal in mind, protect your village and all the people you love in it." Kakashi said to the young shinobi in front of him. Asuma, and Kurenai just gave him a reassuring nods, as the rest gave the one eyed nin a half smile.
"Let's kick some Sound ass!" Naruto called out. Everyone who knew the hyperactive teen just gave him a smile as they tried their best to keep their nerves on alert.
"Naruto, if all of us live through this, and I'll pay for an all you can eat dinner at Ichiraku's." Sakura said to her friend.
"Then I better make this war end fast. After all the asses I'm going to kick, I'm going to be starving." Naruto said, giving his teammate a thumbs up.
"Sasuke-kun, Kakashi-san, Sai….."
"We know Sakura." Kakashi said, as he patted her on the head like he used to in her genin days. She gave her teacher and blond teammate a small hug before looking at them one last time before the battle.
"Hey maybe you can look at them, and turn them into stone." Sai suggested.
"You're lucky we need you in good health at this very moment." Sakura said, but she gave him a small reassuring hug nonetheless. She then turned to Sasuke. Knowing that Sasuke would prefer getting slapped in the face by Tsunade than being hugged in public, Sakura just flashed him one of her genuine smiles before standing by his side.
"Sound's approaching!" An anbu called out. Almost everyone tookout their various weapons and silently waited.
"Sakura, Naruto, let's go." Sasuke whispered. They knew exactly what he meant. The three shared looked of concern as they took one last look at their comrades. Before they could sneak away, Kakashi stopped them.
"Sakura, Naruto, Sasuke…" "Shit." The three thought. "Be careful of that snake's tricks. Take care of yourselves." Kakashi said to his students. "What! How did he know!"
"Kakashi-san-" but before Naruto or anyone else could say a word, the large wooden doors were blown open. Sasuke and the other two took this as their cue, and disappeared into the smoke.
"Sai, now's one of those times you should go help the ones important to you." Kakashi said as he sliced through a rogue nin's throat.
"Important ones?" Sai said as he dodged a couple of kunais.
"Hurry up and get the hell out of here." Kakashi said, as he lifted his headband away from his left eye. "I'll cover you."
On the Hokage tower.
"Tsunade-sama, they breached the North, West, and East gates." A jounin informed her.
"Alright, get the second battalion to the West gate pronto!" Tsunade ordered. The nin bowed and disappeared in a cloud of smoke. "Shikamaru status report."
"The enemy barely outnumbers us by little over ten percent." Shikamaru said as he looked out into the village. He only hoped his comrades were still alive.
In the forest Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto raced through the forest in complete stealth as they searched for their target.
"Crap!" the three thought as they sensed they were being followed. They instinctively formed a triangle, backs facing each other. They stayed quiet as the enemy appeared from the trees behind them.
Inside of the village, the rest of the gang tried their best to hold off the enemy.
"Tenten! Four o'clock!" Lee called out. Tenten took his advise and blocked a couple of poison needles with her katana.
"Thanks Lee!" She called out as she bit her thumb and pulled out another scroll from her side pouch.
Neji knocked out one sound nin with his gentle fist as he was surrounded by another ten. Neji smirked as he got into his position. "Your all in range for my favorite attack." he said before charging at each one of them.
"Kaiten!" Hinata muttered as she spun around with a small barrier of chakra surrounding her. "Shino, on your left!" Hinata called out. Shino spun around and the nin was instantly on the floor with his insects sucking his chakra away.
"Akamaru, lets go!" Kiba said as he and the canine transformed into the large two headed wolf.
"Choji, now!" Ino called out as she, Lee and Tenten got a bunch of nin in one area.
"Got it!" Choji called out as he inflated himself. He gained speed as he rolled toward the confused nin.
"This is crazy! Everything's going hectic!" Ino called out as she stabbed a rogue sand nin in the heart.
"You can say that again." Asuma said to his former student as he fought by her side.
"Neji, Hinata!" Kakashi warned as he concentrated chakra into his left hand. The Hyuugas instantly got out of the way as they heard the piercing sound of a thousand birds. "Chidori!" Kakashi yelled out as he charged toward a large group of nins.
Many long hours passed by as the battle raged on. It was the late afternoon of the next day, but no one took notice as they continued to fight.
"Gah!" Tenten yelled as a couple of needle wedged themselves into her left thigh.
"Tenten!" Lee called out. He tried to make his way toward his teammate, but was stopped as he dodged to the left avoiding a couple of kunai.
"Choji, watch it!" Kiba called out as three sound nin jumped him at the same time.
"Kaiten!" Both Neji and Hinata called out as they spun around side by side, creating a huge barrier wall protecting their comrade. The three nin flew back and crashed into some buildings near them.
"Thanks!" Choji said to the two.
"No problem." Hinata said with a smile, before charging back into the battle.
"Hn." Neji said as he did the same.
"I suppose I'll have to use one of these." Choji muttered as he reached into his pocket and took out a small container. He took out a small round pill and ate it. "I hope Tsunade-sama or Sakura can take care of my after affects when this is all through." He thought as his body was surrounded by chakra.
"Choji! You baka!" Ino yelled out in concern, but she just saw her teammate give her a smile as he jumped into a crowd of nins.
"Kiba!" Shino called out as his teammate was stabbed in the back by a rogue nin. Akamaru charged at the enemy and successfully broke his neck with his jaw.
"Thanks buddy." Kiba said as he jumped out of the way of a smoke bomb.
"Shino, help me take the injured to a medical squad!" Tenten called out with two limp leaf shinobi, each one dangling unconsciously each of her shoulders.
"Desert coffin." Gaara muttered as he successfully killed a group of nins around the tower. Tsunade was healing victims and giving orders every second.
"Shikamaru! Go help the others, at this point we need all the shinobi to fight." Tsunade ordered as she ran over to another unconscious nin.
Shikamaru immediately raced toward to where his teammates were located. About half way there, he met up with Tenten and Shino, along with the people they were carrying.
"Shikamaru!" Tenten said as she came to a halt.
"At this point it's an all out fight." Shikamaru told the two. Soon after the ground shook violently as a gigantic three headed snake broke through the west gate.
"What in the hell!"
"Tenten, Shino, as soon as you take care of the injured meet me and the others a tenth of a mile west of the hokage tower." Shikamaru said as he raced off, not even letting the two say anything.
When Shikamaru finally made it to the front gate, he saw everyone within a huge mass of sound nin. He raced into the mass right next to Neji and yelled out "Neji your team, and Hinata, your team, with me now!"
A look of confusion was passed from one to another, but they trusted their friend and did as they were told.
"This is going to be a, long battle." Ino thought as she saw her friends raceoff into the distance.
Night seemed to over take the shinobi of both side so minor retreats were made during the dark hours once every night or so. Numerous bodies surrounded the village, as a couple of hunter nins extracted and disposed of the bodies.
"I'm tired." Naruto said as he collapsed onto the floor.
"No duh…" Sakura said as she sat down beside her blond teammate.
"Lets rest for now." Sasuke said as he leaned against a tree.
They've been fighting off nins for the past couple of days. Fatigue was coming over them, but they were too stubborn to succumb to it. Only hours later…
"Where the hell is that fuckin snake!" Naruto said as he laid down. He placed his hand over his stomach as it growled in hunger. "I could really use that dinner you promised Sakura-chan. I sick of these plant things." Sakura just smiled as she noticed Sasuke staring at a couple trees in the distance. "What's wrong Sasuke-kun?"
"The snake has to wait I guess, Kabuto, you'll die first…" Sasuke said as Kabuto along with two other nins appeared in front of the three.
"You…" Sakura and Naruto growled.
"Aw, Sasuke-kun, Naruto-kun, Sakura-chan, isn't this a great reunion." Kabuto said as he readjusted his glasses. Both his hands started to glow a light blue.
"So your still taking orders from your lover?" Sasuke said with a smirk. At the same moment, Kabuto and his group attacked Sasuke and his team.
At the west gate. Shikamaru along with Neji and Hinata's team were fighting off the giant snake summoning.
"Neji, Hinata Find the summoning scroll. It shouldn't be too far. Tenten, Kiba, when they find it, destroy it. Shino, Lee and I will back up Neji and Hinata. Now go!" Shikamaru ordered. Lee and the rest got to work as Neji and Hinata scanned the area.
"Found it! Twenty seven degrees to the right, about a half mile off." Neji said.
"About seven sound nins guarding it." Hinata said right after.
"Good job you guys, let's go Kiba, Akamaru!" Tenten called out as they rushed out of the gate.
"Good luck Tenten!" Lee called out as he smash a rogue nin's face right into the pavement.
Far into the forest, Sakura and Naruto were facing off with Kabuto, as Sasuke occupied another nin.
"Kuso!" Naruto yelled out as Kabuto, once again, dodged his rasengan.
"We have to keep him in one damn place." Sakura thought.
"Naruto!" Sakura called out when her teammate was shot backwards.
"Yeah." Naruto said as he spat out some blood.
"I-" but Sakura was cut off when Sasuke stood right next to them.
"Only Kabauto's left." Sasuke muttered.
"Perfect, like I was saying, Naruto, Sasuke-kun, this is what we do." Sakura told the two.
Kabuto continued to heal the various wounds he had as he watched his opponents whisper to one another. The minute Naruto and the rest split up, Kabuto went on the offensive. Sakura stayed back as Sasuke and Naruto charged forward. Naruto made a small army of clones as Sasuke attacked Kabuto with his inhuman speed. Kabuto managed to dodge some of the attacks but not all of them. Kabuto stood in one spot as he was surrounded by Naruto's shadow clones, along with a sword wielding Uchiha. As he contemplated what to do, the clones attacked and jumped on him. Kabuto fought some off, but knew his fate was sealed when the surface of the ground under him started to crack. At the same instant Sakura grabbed onto his ankles, blue chakra emitting from her hands. By her touch, all the muscles started to tear apart. Sasuke started to charge toward Kabuto with his chidori in hand.
Sasuke approached closer and closer toward Kabuto, but immediately stopped when a gigantic snake attempted to eat him whole. Sakura and Naruto got away in time as well.
"Timings never been better Orochimaru-sama." Kabuto said as he climbed onto the head of the large snake.
"Kabuto, I'm disappointed. You couldn't even take care of Tsunade's or Jiraiya's students?" Orochimaru asked as Kabuto healed his ankles.
"Sorry, Orochimaru-sama." Kabuto apologized.
"Bastard!" Naruto yelled out as his eyes flared in anger. "You're finally going the pay for all the crap you pulled!" Naruto began to charge at the huge snake when suddenly, Sasuke pushed him out of the way.
"Teme! Why di-" but Naruto stopped when he saw Sasuke using his sword to block an attack from another Orochimaru from behind, who was wielding a sword from his mouth.
"Dobe, pay attention. You let your guard down now, and we're all screwed." Sasuke said as he broke off from his stand off and slashed through the clone.
Hours passed the border, the Akatsuki were finally on the move.
"Hidan, you do have your key right?" Tobi asked.
"Of course." Hidan answered as he showed a metal ring that held a couple of rings that glowed with chakra. "Just tell Deidara that he and Itachi go toward the north gate, while we get the south."
"Hai." Tobi said as he raced ahead toward the Uchiha. "Um, Itachi-san Hidan sai-"
"I know Tobi." Itachi said cutting the newbie off.
"Oh, alright Itachi-san." Tobi was about to leave, but he stopped when Deidara ran along side him.
"Remember Tobi, whatever you do, don't mess up, yeah. If you do…you're dead." His former sensei warned as he and Itachi raced off toward the North gate, leaving Tobi behind.
"H-holy shit!" Tobi thought, as his grip on his key tightened..
An hour later, Itachi, Deidara, Tobi and the rest got in their positions. In sequent order they all took out their chakra infused key -except for Tobi- and held a small wooden box in their other hand. The box hand many inscriptions all over it. In front of the keyhole was a sealing tag. The Akatsuki members tore the slip of paper off as they inserted the key. They didn't unlock it, but kept it in their hands as they entered the hazardous village.
In the west gate Shikamaru and the rest were finally able to destroy the summoning.
"Finally! Thank kami it's gone!" Kiba said aloud as he was kneeling on the floor exhausted.
"I can agree to that." Shino said as he held his bloody left arm.
"Let Sakura or someone see that wound quickly Shino, before you die from blood loss." Tenten warned.
"Yeah rea-" but Hinata was cut off when they heard a genin yelling like a madman, away from the north gate.
"What the?" Lee said as he and the others saw even more genins and some chunins run for cover.
"Are you guys nuts! Run for your lives!" A genin called out toward Neji and the rest.
"What's going on?" Neji asked, but Shikamaru just shrugged. Then suddenly the ground started to tremble every couple of seconds or so.
"I don't like this one bit." Kiba said. Soon after, they saw a gigantic racoon, destroying buildings left and right.
"Finally, I'm free!" The giant one-tailed beast yelled out.
"What are you babbling on about, those damn Akatsuki control our true freedom." A giant two tailed cat said as it appeared behind the raccoon. The shinobi in the village stood in horror as two more tailed beast appeared.
"Shut up and destroy this pathetic village, then we'll go after those fools who captured our spirits." said a large aquatic three tailed beast.
"He'sssss right." The eight tailed snake said as it killed a couple of sound and leaf nins with only a single swipe, from one of its tails.
"I suppose the Akatsuki is against both sides." Neji said as he activated his byakugan, seeing the dead bodies from both sound and leaf.
"Akatsuki!" Hinata said in shock.
"This gives us two enemies to worry about. How troublesome." Shikamaru thought as he and the rest tried their best to hold off the mystical beasts.
"Ino, you and the other chunins get out now. Itachi, and the other one are way too powerful." Kakashi warned as he faced off with the elder Uchiha.
"Ino!" Choji called out as Deidara threw clay bombs at her near the north gate.
"Choji, we have to get the hell out of here!" Ino began, seeing that two of the Akatsuki members were way out of their league.
"Ino watch-" But Kakashi couldn't finish his warning as a huge explosion blasted the three sky high.
Far in the forest, Naruto and the rest saw the huge explosion coming from their home. Looking in that direction, the three gasped as they saw four gigantic monsters engulfing their village in flames.
"Konoha!" Sakura said in shock.
"Kabuto, what's going on?" Orochimaru said in urgency.
"I don't know Orochimaru-sama." Kabuto answered still surprised seeing four of the nine tailed beast helping them destroy the leaf village.
"Kabuto, stay here, I have to see what's happening." Orochimaru said as he disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
Kabuto stood there on top of the giant snake summoning, as he faced the three. Still in bewilderment, Naruto and the rest didn't notice the snake's attempt to eat them whole.
"Sakura-chan!" Naruto called out seeing that she was the first victim.
"Sakura!" Sasuke called out as he charged forward.
Before Naruto and Sasuke's very eyes, Sakura was swallowed whole by the gigantic snake.
"SAKURA-CHAN!" Naruto yelled in pure anger, but before he could get at the snake, the large reptile began to throw up. Sasuke and Naruto stood there in confusion to see the large snake vomit gallons of ink.
"What happened to Sakura!" Sasuke said as he tried to search for her with his sharingan.
"She's over here idiot." Sai said as he and Sakura jumped down from a tree nearby.
"Sakura-chan, your-but how?" Naruto asked as he and Sasuke ran over to their teammates.
"I made an ink clone dickless." Sai said, making Naruto pissed.
"Why you-"
"Pay attention dobe!" Sasuke warned as Kabuto jumped down from the sick snake.
"You guys go back to the village now. The Akatsuki are the ones who set off those beasts." Sai said.
"What!" Naruto said aloud. Both he and Sakura looked at Sasuke to see his expression. It was cold and dark, which concerned Sakura.
"We can't just lea-" Sakura began.
"I know you might miss seeing someone as good-looking at me hag, but you'll get over it." Sai said with his fake smile. Sakura gave a small smile back and said a quick 'be careful', as she got a couple of soldier pills from her medicine pouch. "Take this at least. It's a special kind of soldier pill." she said as she gave him the pill. "Stay alive, I owe you a punch in the face for your last comment."
"Don't die teme, I need to pay you back for all the insults you said to me too." Naruto said to his teammate. Sasuke just looked sort of bored, but Sai guessed that, that was his way of saying bye.
"Hurry up and go already, the village will be gone if you don't leave, now. Be sure to follow this bird." Sai said pointing up to a small ink bird. "It will lead you through the way I came here. I cleared it out for you guys. Now go!" Sai said as he urged his teammates to leave. "He's planning something." Sasuke thought. The three left hastily, as Sai prepared for his fight with Kabuto.
"You're brave, but stupid." Kabuto said with a smirk as the giant snake disappeared. "Sakura hurry up." Naruto said as he raced beside her. Sakura just gave him a look of concern.
"Naruto."
"He'll be ok. Is part of our team. He's strong." Naruto said.
"You know we'll both probably die when those three activate the explosion tags you set around us." said Kabuto as he adjusted his glasses.
"The minute they step out of the boundary of the explosion, they'll set off."
"Then I'll just have to kill you before that happens."
"That applies for me too. Let's see if you can fight …….homo." Sai said as he summoned his ink tigers.
"Gahhhh!" Lee cried out as the giant two tailed cat gave him a huge gash on the back. Lee jumped out of the way as the beast attempted to claw him in half.
"We can't handle four at the same time!" Kiba yelled out as he threw kunais with explosion tags straight at the large snake.
"Shikamaru, what do we do?" Tenten called out as she summoned more weapons from her scroll.
"Kuso…." Shikamaru muttered as he and Hinata dodged an earth shattering attack from the giant raccoon.
"Lee watch out!" Neji yelled as the raccoon started to go towards his teammate.
The beast swung its tail straight at the taijutsu master. Lee tried to get away, but the pain from the gash on his back made him immobile.
"Lee!" Tenten called out as she witnessed her teammate being crushed by the beast's tail. Tears formed in her eyes as she ran toward where she last seen her friend.
The giant racoon started to attack Shino and the rest as Tenten finally made it to where Lee was. The impact created a giant crater and right in the middle, Tenten saw her green teammate.
"L-lee." Tenten muttered as she stepped closer to Lee's crushed body. "Wake up Lee." Tenten muttered as she kneeled beside his body. She reached out and touched the side of his cheek only to have it crumble beneath her fingertips. Tenten jumped back in surprise. "What the hell!" Tenten said as her teammates body crumbled to a heap of sand.
"He's alright." said a voice from right above her.
"Gaara-san?" Tenten said as the hokage lowered Lee's body with his sand.
"He fainted from blood loss before the beast attacked him. He need to get help quickly." Gaara advised as he walked toward the huge raccoon.
"Thank you so much." Tenten said as she carefully picked up her teammate's body and sprinted toward the medical squad.
"You caused more problems that anyone can imagine….I couldn't do it before…but now I can finally kill you….You damn son of a bitch!" Gaara said as he started to attack the huge raccoon, that tormented his entire childhood.
"Kakashi…What do we do." Choji said as he held onto his unconscious teammate.
"Take Ino to a medic. She lost too much blood." Kakashi ordered as he came face to face with Itachi and Deidara. "Be careful."
"You too." Choji said as he raced off.
"How noble of you, yeah." Deidara said as he gave Kakashi and mocking smile.
"You've caused too many distractions." Itachi said as he activated his mangekyou, Kakashi doing the same.
"Time to get rid of your brother's teacher, yeah?" Deidara said as he and Itachi ran forward.
"Naruto, I hope you take care of everyone." Kakashi thought before activating his chidori.
On the other side of the village of the south gate, two more Akatsuki members attacked leaf and Sound nins.
"Genma!" A jounin called out a Hidan slashed through him with his custom scythe.
"Shit." Genma muttered as he and the others were forced to retreat.
"Hey Hidan, look who's here. The traitor." Kakuzu said as he and Hidan faced Orochimaru. They both looked at the sanin's arms with a raised brow.
"So that's where Kisame went." Hidan said without a care in the world.
"Tobi! Hurry up and go!" Kakuzu ordered. Tobi quickly ran into the village as Orochimaru stood there with a smile on his face.
Only minutes away from the village, Naruto and the rest raced on as they finally could see their village.
-A giant explosion erupted throughout the forest.-
"What the heck was that!" Naruto asked and he continued to hop from tree branch to branch. Sakura stopped and looked in the direction of the explosion.
"Sai…." She muttered as her expression turned sad.
"Sakura-chan…Let's hurry up." Naruto said as he urged his worried teammate to keep moving. Naruto looked back one more time before racing back toward the village.
"Sasuke-kun wait up!" Sakura called out as her friend was far ahead of them. By the time Sasuke reached the North gate, he stood frozen on the spot.
"Finally teme, what were…you-" Naruto's sentence drifted off as he saw what had stopped the raven haired nin. Deidara took heavy damage in the right shoulder, and was kneeling on the ground bleeding while the entire village in front of them was utterly destroyed. But the thing that brought the three in silence, was the scene that played before them. Tears rolled down Sakura's face as she and her teammates witnessed Itachi stabbing their former sensei with a kunai infused with chakra.
"Kakashi-san!" Sakura screamed.
Next time: "Good-bye Sakura-chan, Naruto-kun….."…"Damn it Sakura, hurry!"…"I-I can't lose them…I just can't. Naruto, what do I do!"…"You continue to be unimpressive to me little brother. I suppose you'll need more encouragement than just the death of our clan."
