Day Two; Meanwhile
A small beeping device was held securely within his hands, complicated buttons surrounding it's ebony body and the antenna sticking towards what he assumed was the west. Tired brown eyes glared down at the confusing machine, dark black eyebrows furrowed and his face scrunched into perfect concentration as he examined it. He was solely determined to fix the transceiver in his tan hands, because if he had then that would be the key to them being rescued from the island they had only spent one night on. But to do that would take time, and though as it was said earlier that morning that time didn't matter on an island, he wasn't sure how long he could exactly handle being stranded.
Fixing machinery was Beck's forte, as he had done so many times beforehand. His father was a mechanic and had furthermore taught him all the ropes he needed – if he wasn't enrolled in Hollywood Arts, or interested in any type of acting, he was sure he was set to work at his father's company as right hand man; hell, he worked there part time already. He fixed everything varying from cars, cell phones, telephones and any type of electronic device. A transceiver was much like a complicated radio and walkie-talkie combined into one, and to say he would be disappointed if he couldn't fix it was an understatement.
But then again, he hadn't an idea with plane equipment. He knew what some things were as they worked very similarly to things he's already fixed, but this was just beyond him. He had abandoned building camp an hour ago to attempt to figure this thing out, but the only reasonable explanation to actually fix it was with a change of batteries and a trip to the mountains in search for a signal to give out.
Glancing over a lean shoulder he stared at the high peaks of the mountains seemingly miles away, tree blanketed and towering high above. A trip to one of those would be days at the very least and he knew with the aftershock of it all, that wouldn't happen yet. Give or take a couple days, if something doesn't happen by then – and Jade was making that quite clear that rescue wasn't going to come any time soon, and it might as well be a full week before they even realize their plane was down. Beck didn't think any less of her opinion, yet all the same he figured search parties were already out and about.
He turned back around with a sigh, moving to fidget with the antenna once more but in return, only receiving the loud static that he was already very familiar with. He was strongly fighting the urge to toss the device into the ocean at which he was sitting directly in front of, and the only thing keeping him back from doing so was the simple fact that it was help.
"D'you find anything yet?" Came Tori's voice from behind him, and he slumped his shoulders and looked round at her. Robbie was standing beside her, looking just as tired as he felt.
"Nope, nothing." He answered her, hauling himself to his feet and glancing up at the sky overhead. Though it was still scorching hot, clouds were rapidly darkening the sky and causing the air to become disgustingly humid. It was going to rain soon, if he was correct.
"Maybe there's something we can do to help you fix it?" Robbie inquired, glasses crooked and curly hair just slightly greasy. All of their hair was dirtying, but the rest of them had resorted in taking a quick dip in the ocean. It wouldn't be healthy to continue doing so, and Beck was doing his best to figure out a way to build some sort of shower in the woods for them to use, but he was busy, and that would have to wait for now. Their main concern was not greasy hair at the moment, and rather instead, surviving until rescue came.
"Nah I think it just needs a change of batteries." He said, raising his left hand and displaying the transmitter with a heavy exhale through his nose. "It won't get signal, either…probably because there's nothing to reach from all the way down here."
"What do you mean by all the way down here?" Asked Tori skeptically, frowning.
"Do you see those mountains all the way back there?" He questioned, pointing his free index finger over their shoulders to gesture at them, and the two teenagers turned around. "If we were up there, I bet we'd have a signal."
"So…?"
"I can't keep trying, I'm sorry guys. This thing only has one bar of battery life left, and if we do try to get up there…then it has to stay charged and off." Beck explained, weaving his way between the pair of them and making his way towards the small camp. They had brought out the beach chairs from their luggage and set them around a small fire pit made of stones and twigs, and had used the bodies of bamboo as a platform to keep coolers underneath a canopy like hut made from the branches of palm trees just like the rest of the huts. Except, the ones they had slept in (at least four separate ones crowded together beneath trees), were more like tents. Blankets and tarp brought from the tail of the plane were covering them, all shades of dark blue and black. Jade and Trina were arguing beside the cooler, each with either food or water in their hands – his girlfriend looked as if she wanted to cut the older girls hair off with a pair of scissors.
He couldn't help but grin at the mental image of his love chopping off the strands of wavy hair furiously; it was something he didn't doubt she would hesitate to do. Jade was perfect to him, no matter how mean she could be, and he wouldn't give up on her for the world. Sure her jealousy got pushed way out of proportion but he knew it was her way of showing that she was afraid to lose him, and sure he defended Tori. But he didn't think that just agreeing with someone would cause a problem, so he had done it anyway. They had been together for two years and he loved everything about her: he wasn't about to go cheat on her with someone who he just thinks as a good friend. Especially when his own best friend was practically obsessed with the younger Vega sister.
"You know what they're fighting about?" Beck asked Andre as he approached the small fire pit they had managed to make earlier, and his best friend was attempting to start a fire himself – though so far, completely unsuccessful.
"Who knows?" His friend shrugged and leaned back, throwing the two sticks down in frustration. "Man, if I can't make a fire than I don't know who can!"
"I wouldn't bother," He replied and sat down next to him with a great sigh. His eyes lingered upon the darkening clouds and he concentrated on the thundering waves crashing upon the shore. "It's going to rain soon anyway"
"How do you –"
The rain began to pour down the second Andre begun to speak again, the droplets pounding against the metal and the huts surrounding them with loud plunks, and almost immediately Beck and the others were soaked. Trina and Tori gasped and ran under the cover of their tents so quickly he wouldn't have noticed should he have blinked and Robbie and Andre clumped into the body of the plane. He stood up slowly and spread his arms with his face parallel to the sky, letting the refreshing rain wash over him, drench him and rinse him from his sweat.
An arm wrapped around his waist and he needn't open his eyes to realize who it was. He instinctively put his arm around his girlfriend of two years and pulled her close, wiping her soaking wet hair from her forehead. "This rain feels nice" He commented with a light smile and a chuckle, blinking back the drops of water cascading down his face.
Jade rolled her eyes and tugged him impatiently to their shared hut by his hand, a boisterous thunder clashing overhead. Beck followed behind her willingly, his insanely 'fluffy' hair clinging to his neck and his face uncomfortably. Though the rain was surely a relief to how hot and humid it had become, his clothes stuck to his skin – and anyone who knew him knew that he had a fetish with that. He shook his hair upon entering the tent and immediately set for the large blanket, peeling his shirt off whilst he did so.
"Is my bag in here? I need some clothes" He asked her as he searched around, squinting in the darkness. Jade however seemed to have a different idea, and crushed her lips hungrily to his.
"Keep them off." She ordered between kisses. Beck obliged, smirking as he drew her atop of him, his hands sliding down her lower back and to her bottom.
Yeah. Tonight was going to be a good one.
Got a little lazy with this one so it's short. Only because today was my second day back at school and we did a lot of work...and I got my official welcome email into Pottermore like two minutes ago, so I'm anxious to get on that. But you guys come first, lmao. Otherwise, I still hope you liked it, and I appreciate any suggestions for the story you have to give me! Well, actually, I strongly encourage them. I want you guys to be satisfied with this, have some things go your way and what not. If I get any suggestions I'll look them over and we'll see if it makes it!
So, go on a leave a review with what you think! (:
*Also, I made a mistake I will be fixing. I was typing "transmitter" rather transceiver, so I corrected that in this one and will be doing so to the rest.*
