A/N: Alright, it's been two weeks and I'm updating again, things are looking up. I know that a couple people are upset with me for copying word for word from the book, but, you have to understand that originally my intention was to write twilight as if the only thing that changed was that Bella was a witch. Obviously, that idea is not going over well, so I'll try changing things up more, can't make any promises though.
A/N: Also, PLEASE VOTE ON MY POLL!!!! It will seriously affect the story and if you want to have input on the story you have to vote! Ahem, anyway onto the story.
Disclaimer: I own nothing but my own ideas and mistakes.
Witchy Woman
Final Answer
Waking up on Friday, Bella remembered that tomorrow she was going to LaPush to finally find out what Edward was. She could barely wait and the day seemed to drag on. Walking into the cafeteria she wondered if Edward was going to be sitting with his family or with her like yesterday. She didn't have to wonder for long because as soon as she entered the cafeteria she saw him sitting in the same spot as yesterday, smiling at her.
More relieved than she should have been, Bella quickly got some food and sat down with Edward. Looking at him, she realized that she didn't know what to say, so she chewed really slowly trying to think of something. Luckily she didn't have to think long as Edward spoke up.
"Can I ask you something?" Edward said looking hesitant.
"You can ask." Bella replied. "But that doesn't mean I'll answer." She amended.
"Fair enough," He smiled and then became serious. "Are you not human?"
"I thought we weren't going to talk about this?" Bella replied gritting her teeth.
"I'm not asking what you are; I'm asking what you aren't." Edward smiled at his loophole.
"I'll only answer that question honestly if you answer it as well." Bella replied.
Edward's eyes clouded over. "It's not just my secret to tell."
"Neither is it mine." Bella replied.
Edward looked surprised as realization dawned on him, "Charlie."
Bella nodded.
"Does he know about my family?" Edward asked, hesitant again.
"He's had a feeling since you moved here and when I told him about the car accident that feeling was confirmed."
Edward looked upset, "You told your father?"
"I'm sure your family knows about me and my … oddities." Bella accused.
Edward stared at her, "Does he approve of our being friends?"
Bella looked down, "I, uh, haven't exactly told him about that part."
"You don't think he would approve?" Edward smiled a dark smile.
"Well, we aren't sure how dangerous you all are and until we figure that out, which we will, he probably wants me to stay away from you." Bella replied meeting his gaze.
"Your father is right to be cautious; you shouldn't be friends with me. If you were smart you would stay away."
"I can take care of myself, thank you very much, besides once we know what you are we can prepare ourselves and then you won't be a threat anymore. Besides, aren't you worried that I'm dangerous?" Bella replied slightly indignant.
"I doubt you are," Edward said, "and I wish you wouldn't try to figure out what we are."
"Why not, you want to know what I am." Bella questioned.
"What if I'm a monster, what if you become afraid of me?" Edward said softly looking at the table.
"That won't happen," Bella said. "You aren't a monster. You wouldn't be trying to be friends with me if you were a monster."
Edward just continued looking at the table. Bella looked around and realized that, again, almost everyone was gone. "We should get going, or are you cutting again?"
"No, I'm not cutting again," Edward said with a smile. "Though, if you really want to be rid of me, I could skip another day of bio."
Bella knew that whatever she said to that would show him just how obsessed she was, so she just shot him a scathing look and tapped her foot on the floor waiting for him to stand. They walked together to Biology and took their seats. Bella noticed that Mike was decidedly unhappy and she figured that it had something to do with her and Edward being so close. Mike was like a guard dog, a most unwanted guard dog.
The next morning, Bella woke up much earlier than was necessary. Despite not being able to sleep the night before, Bella was completely awake and more than a little excited. Since she wasn't do in front of the Newton's store for another few hours Bella decided to do some research. She had realized the night before that Jacob, Billy's son, might not be so forthcoming with information. Bella had to have a plan to get him to talk, and what better way to persuade him to talk than with a little bit of magic.
Going downstairs quietly, so she wouldn't disturb Charlie, Bella went into the basement to see what she if she could find any information on "magical interrogations" as she had mentally dubbed it. She browsed the titles of the many magical books Charlie owned, selecting a handful of ones that looked promising and sat down at the table to start reading.
A little over an hour later, Bella was starting to become frustrated. She couldn't find anything; the closest thing she could find was a potion that changed your voice to mimic someone else's. She was just about to give up, when she turned the page and found a spell to hypnotize people. As she read the spell, she realized that it was too complicated to do in front of Jacob. Bella was so frustrated, the only spell that would work wasn't practical and it would be too obvious to Jacob. She was so pre-occupied that she didn't realize that Charlie had come down the stairs and was standing behind her until he started speaking.
"That spell is too obvious."
Bella nearly jumped a foot in the air. "Don't scare me like that! And I know that it's too obvious, but what else can I do, the only other thing I could find was potion that changes your voice."
Charlie was silent for a minute and then he said, "Why don't you combine the two, to make your voice hypnotizing?"
Bella looked up in surprise, "Can I do that?"
"Sure just combine both incantations and say them over the potion once it's made, then once you drink it, your voice will be hypnotizing."
"But, is that a good idea, I could hypnotize anyone and get them hurt."
"Tweak the incantation then so that it only works on Jacob."
"Okay, that sounds like a good idea." And with that Bella got to work combining and tweaking the incantation.
Fill my voice with power
For Jacob's secrets I yearn
To hypnotize him is my goal
So he won't know what I'll learn
(A/N: sorry to interrupt, but my incantation is lame, I know)
Charlie looked at what she wrote down and said, "That should do the trick. Now get all the ingredients together and start mixing the potion."
Bella took the book upstairs with her and got all the herbs and various ingredients out that she needed, while Charlie fetched her a cauldron. For nearly a half an hour Bella put together the potion. It would have taken a shorter time, but Bella was new to making potions and she didn't want to mess it up.
Saying the incantation and adding the final ingredient, a big BANG and a puff of smoke came out of the potion; assuming that meant it was ready, Bella poured it into a bottle and corked it, so that she could drink it right when she needed it. Bella looked over the page, to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything, and wrote down the incantation to stop the potion.
Looking at the clock, Bella saw that it was a quarter to eleven; she had to leave now to get there on time. Pocketing the bottle, she grabbed her keys, said goodbye to Charlie and climbed into her truck. Ten minutes later she was outside the Newton's store with Mike and a few others deciding who would go in which car.
Arriving at LaPush, Bella could barely contain her excitement. Bella had decided that in order to get the LaPush kids to come to them, they would have to start a bonfire and put on some music. Luckily, one of the other kids had brought a stereo, and making a bonfire was relatively simple.
Bella told this to the group and they all agreed. Everyone went in search of logs and sticks to start a fire and soon they had a raging bonfire and music playing while they sat around and talked. As Bella had thought, it didn't take long for the LaPush kids to come investigate. Bella spied Jacob and waved him over.
"Hey, Jacob, long time no see!" Bella said enthusiastically.
"Bella, it's good to see you again." Jacob smiled. "How is life in Forks?"
"I can't complain, every things been going pretty well." Bella replied getting up, "hey let's go walk around the beach and talk for a bit."
"Sure thing that sounds good." Jacob turned around and started off towards the beach not seeing Bella quickly drink the potion.
"So, how's the truck? It should run fine for awhile, but I may have to take a look at it for you if it starts acting up."
"You fixed the truck?" Bella asked struggling to keep her voice at its normal timbre; the potion was starting to take effect.
"Yeah" Jacob looked down, very humble. "I've got a bike that I'm fixing up right now, but the parts are a bit expensive."
"The truck is great, it didn't give me any trouble on the ice last week. Although, other people had trouble on the ice." Bella started, trying to subtly direct the conversation towards Forks. "Did you hear about the accident?"
"Yeah, how are you feeling?" Jacob asked.
"I'm fine, I saw Dr. Cullen and he said there was nothing wrong with me. But, there's something odd about the Cullens, what do you know about them?" Bella asked letting the potion change her voice, making it huskier than normal with an odd edge to it.
(A/N: The actual legend is exactly like it is in the book, I refuse to rewrite it.)
"There are stories about the cold ones." His eyes were glazed over slightly and he spoke in a monotone voice.
"What do the Quileutes have to do with the cold ones?" She asked in the same low voice.
"According to legend, my own great-grandfather knew some of them. He was the one who made the treaty that kept them off our land. He was a tribal elder, like my father. You see, the cold ones are the natural enemies of the wolf—well, not the wolf, really, but the wolves that turn into men, like our ancestors. You would call them werewolves."
"Werewolves have enemies?" Bella asked her voice dropping again.
"Only one." Jacob continued monotone, "The cold ones are traditionally our enemies. But this pack that came to our territory during my great-grandfather's time was different. They didn't hunt the way others of their kind did — they weren't supposed to be dangerous to the tribe. So my great-grandfather made a truce with them. If they would promise to stay off our lands, we wouldn't expose them to the pale-faces." He winked at me.
"If they weren't dangerous, then why…?" Bella trailed off in her normal voice.
"There's always a risk for humans to be around the cold ones, even if they're civilized like this clan was. You never know when they might get too hungry to resist."
"What do you mean, 'civilized'?" Bella asked her voice dropping again.
"They claimed that they didn't hunt humans. They supposedly were somehow able to prey on animals instead."
"So are the Cullens like the cold ones your great-grandfather met?"
"No, they are the same ones. There are more of them now; a new female and a new male, but the rest are the same. In my great-grandfather's time they already knew of the leader, Carlisle. He'd been here and gone before your people had even arrived." Jacob finished in the same monotone voice.
"And what are they? What are the cold ones?"
"Blood drinkers," he replied. "Your people call them vampires."
Bella was pre-occupied the whole ride home. She couldn't wrap her mind around it. The Cullens were vampires. It just seemed so odd, and yet, it fit. They didn't eat, they were extremely pale, inhumanly strong and fast. Not to mention the fact that they weren't human, it all made sense.
Walking in the front door Bella was confronted by her father pacing up and down in the kitchen. "What did you learn?"
Bella hesitated for a minute then said, "They're vampires."
Charlie was stunned and Bella took this time to go upstairs, she was very tired. Getting ready for bed, Bella couldn't keep her thoughts from racing.
Edward was a vampire.
