Chapter Three

Present Day…

"You have everything you need?" Rose's voice carries from the living room.

I look around my bathroom, and shove another couple of hair ties into my toiletry bag. "Yeah, I think so. Anything else I forget I can just buy a spare when I land."

I make my way into the living room our shared apartment. Rose has my backpack slung over one shoulder, while Emmett, her fiancé has my large suitcase balancing on one hand. "Packing light, Bella?"

I take my suitcase from him to shove my toiletry bag into it. It barely zips shut, and he has it balancing again, as if it weighs nothing. Rose and I roll our eyes at the same time. "You've got her already, Em, you don't have to keep showing off."

"I like to keep my girl entertained," he shoots Rose a smirk complete with dimples.

"More like annoyed," she mumbles under her breath, though she looks back at him, her eyes lingering on his large biceps as they flex under the weight of my luggage.

The car ride to the airport is silent, save for the tapping of my foot on the rubber floormat, until Rosalie reaches back to put her hand on my knee without taking her eyes off the road. "Nervous?"

I bite my lip as I try to figure out how I feel. "Yeah, but it's like an excited nervous. It's been three years."

"I distinctly remember asking you to not fall in love with him, too," I see her small smile in the rearview.

My shoulders lift in a shrug, my gaze returning to the passing scenery. I was exchanging one wet place for another, though the city I was travelling to was much, much smaller.

It takes half the time to unload my luggage from the car than it did to pack it in, and soon I'm standing on the sidewalk saying goodbye to my best friend. "Absolutely no sex in my room, got it? I'll know." I turn to glare at Emmett, who ducks his head in mock shame.

"Be safe. I know it's a small town, but still," Rose says, pulling me into a tight hug. "Call when you land. Every time you land."

I nod. "I promise. I'll be back in two weeks." I adjust the straps on my backpack and grab the handle for my checked bag, and I walk into the airport.
