Chapter Three: Confinement and Escape

Yong Soo was lying on his bed, facedown on his pillow. And he was bored. When he came home from school today, Yao-hyung was already lying in wait for him. He sent Lee home right away and then really tore into Yong Soo. While he couldn't really remember what Yao-hyung was yelling about (something about Yong Soo being rash and that he should stay out of other people's business), he did remember that was confined to his room, his video games and TV were taken away, and Lee wasn't allowed to visit him.

And now he was bored.

Yong Soo lifted his head with great difficulty and stared at the monstrous stack of schoolwork that had been piling up on his desk since the semester started. It was about the only thing that Yao-hyung had left in the room.

"Nah, I'm not that bored yet, da ze." And he rolled over.

Ivan was bored. And when Ivan was bored, he went looking for his Yao. But Ivan couldn't find him anywhere on campus, and he couldn't find anyone who had seen him. Ivan figured that meant he must have gone home for the evening. So with that in mind, he was making his way to his Yao's house. He didn't go there often, because the one time his Yao had seen him there, he got really angry. And Ivan didn't like to upset his Yao. Well, most of the time, anyway.

He pushed past the bushes surrounding the property and quietly crept closer to the building. The house was dark. Did everyone leave somewhere? It was far too early for them to be asleep, right? He walked closer, not bothering as much to keep quiet. Then a lit window caught his eye.

Ivan stared at the piece of paper taped in the window. "Vhat?"

-o-o-o-

Yong Soo jumped at the sound of someone knocking lightly at his window. He looked at the door, as if Yao-hyung was going to burst through any second to scold him again. A second round of knocking, slightly louder, jolted him into action, though and he threw his window open. Outside was the last person he expected to see. "What are you doing here, stalker?" Yong Soo whispered crossly as he leaned half out the window.

"Not stalker. Vhat is paper?"

"Huh? Oh, that," Yong Soo sighed and laid his chin on his crossed arms. "Yao-hyung grounded me. Something about me not acting like a reasonable adult and blah, blah, blah. I wasn't really listening." He shrugged and pouted as he crossed his arms on the window sill. "I don't know, but he wouldn't even let me explain… He never lets me explain."

"He is… stubborn."

"He sure is! And he's mean too. He took away my TV, and my video games and I'm so booored." Yong Soo whined.

Ivan held out his hand. "Come."

"What?! I can't, Yao-hyung would be so mad-"

"Yao is already mad, da?"

Yong Soo's mouth formed a silent 'oh' before breaking into a wide grin. "Oh my gods, you're right, da ze!" he said in hushed excitement. He glanced back at the door for a second before grabbing Ivan's hand and letting him help him out of the window.

The moment he was out the window Yong Soo took off like Lee lit fireworks under his shoes. Ivan followed after, at a more leisurely pace, and finally caught up with the ecstatic high schooler about a block away from his house.

"Freedom, da ze!" Yong Soo exclaimed with a giggle as he threw his arms in the arm and twirled in a circle. "Now what, Mr. Stalker?"

"Not stalker." Ivan repeated with a frown. "Name is Ivan."

Yong Soo face twisted in a frown. And he thought. For all of two seconds. "Well, fine. You did break me out of the dungeon after all. I guess that makes you a hero? No, Alfred would hate it if I called you that… A knight. Yeah, that works. You can be a knight, da ze!"

"A… knight?"

"Uh-huh! Since you rescued the prince!" Yong Soo smiled, proud of himself for finding a way to fit Ivan into his story. "So what now, Mr. Knight?"

"Can I just be Ivan?"

"Awwww, that's no fun. How 'bout Sir Ivan?"

Ivan wasn't sure what this strange boy was talking about and was starting to wonder if it was a bad idea to have knocked on the window in the first place, but he nodded reluctantly nevertheless.

"Mansae!" Yong Soo cried out as he twirled in another little circle in the middle of the sidewalk. "So what should we do, Sir Ivan?"

The Russian shrugged. He didn't really have anything planned for tonight, that's why he was over at Yao's. "Vhat do you want to do?"

"Eh? Hmmm… "Yong Soo pondered. "I dunno, no one ever lets me choose." Then he gasped, a grin running across his face that would make the Cheshire cat proud. "Is there a party we could go to? You know, a college party?"

"Probably," Ivan said with another shrug. There was almost always a party on campus and while he may not have been invited (an oversight on the host's part, Ivan was sure) it wasn't like they wouldn't let him in and he was sure no one would question a guest.

"That. Is. So. COOL, da ze!" Ivan smiled as Yong Soo danced happily in front of him. "Can we? Please?" He clasped his hands in front of his chest. "Please?" he repeated, looking about to burst from excitement.

Ivan considered saying no, just to see the other boy's reaction, but found himself nodding. "Da, is no problem. Come, this vay."

"Mansae!" The hyperactive Asian followed after the smiling college student, dancing in excitement all the while.
