Hi guys!
I am continuing this little fanfic for this terrific review:
"H. :Hi, I would like to comment on this. Let me tel you that I
haven't read all of it, but wat I have read really did upset me. I do not hate
this, and I'm not going to spend this review saying how I hate this, but I do
NOT agree with the things you said in this. I do not wat to make enemies with
this review, but why can't you look at good things in the movie, instead of
the bad. I can understand if you don't like it, because every person has a
divrent pov, but please look at all the good things instead of the bad. I know
you don't want a hate review, but please do go look a all the good things. HF."
This was a review by a new guest, H. . I loved how he kindly told me he disagreed with me, without getting angry. He also asked if I could look at the good things about Chipwrecked instead of just the bad. So, to be fair to all people who read my review, and directly afterward proceeded to hate my guts, I am going to count down the top 5 things that I DID like about this movie:
5. They tried to teach Alvin some moral responsibilities. This comes in at number five because this is both my number five praise AND my number 11 problem with this movie.
Not that teaching the main character a good lesson is bad. That's where this movie goes right in that Alvin actually does start to see everyone else's POV, and thus have a somewhat interesting dilemma.
The problem I have with this is that IT'S ALL THROWN OUT THE WINDOW! Seriously, if you saw the epilogue in the credits, on the plane, you know that Alvin at the very end does something mischievous again, breaks all the rules, and thus, completely forgetting all of what the film makers had wasted an hour and a half trying to get across.
I wouldn't mind so much, it's just that it is so obviously just to make way for another sequel, which we now know will probably never come. (By the way, guys: yes, production of the next chipmunks film "Fun on the Moon" has been confirmed cancelled. I do know that Ross jr. started a new cartoon, but as far as theatrical releases go, I wouldn't count on it.)
Anyway, criticizing aside, it's still a great addition to the movie.
4. LOT'S OF CHIPMUNKS MUSIC! Despite what it may seem, I don't hate the chipmunks. I actually love them. I just was a little disappointed by this movie, that's all.
And one of the GREAT things about this movie, was all the music that the chipmunks get to sing. Because, as we all know, isn't that why the 'munks and 'ettes were invented in the first place?
Even though some of the singing was a little random and forced, it still didn't matter. It was chipmunk and chipette music, and it was fantastic to see it on the big screen again.
3. Ian Hawk is back! Even though, at least as far as I know, Ian Hawk had nothing to do with the original chipmunk cartoon series, he was still one of the highlights of the three movies for me. They even got one of my favorite actors, David Cross, to play him. I just loved the silliness and humor which came from the character in all three movies.
Due to complaints from his other fans, it was uncertain if he'd return for the third movie, but I'm really glad he did because it wouldn't have been half as funny if he hadn't.
Unfortunately, even if they DID end up making a fourth movie, David Cross has publically announced time and time again that he will never work for the franchise again. So goodness help the writers of another chipmunks film trying to fit in some good humor without Ian Hawk.
2. The volcano scene. You remember how I said at the end of my last chapter that Chipwrecked took no risks? Well, there ARE a couple of exceptions- this climax being one of them.
I do have a couple issues with this scene, so let's get them out of the way: It came out of nowhere, with no buildup or exposition. For no real reason whatsoever, the volcano just decides to erupt. Also it is definitely held back by a fairly limited budget. (Come on guys, did you REALLY believe Dave was hanging from that log?)
With that said, this scene is a TON of fun to watch! The pacing, the peril, the acting, the surprisingly dramatic tone, all work incredibly well to deliver a terrific climax!
1. The romance. This again goes against what I said at the last chapter about this movie taking no risks, because the fact that Simon becomes Simone (ugh) and actually does some of the romance stuff that he did, like kissing the chipettes' hands, and other stuff like that. In fact, for just about the entire second act focuses on Jeanette and Simone, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. (If you read my last review, you know what I'm talking about.)
My one major problem with this is that it focuses on Simon and Jeannette WAY too much. I understand that they kind of had to make up for the Squeakuel having next to nothing with Simon and Jeannette, but the writers overdo it. I mean REALLY overdo it! Alvanny is and always will be my favorite couple, and I was disappointed how little actual romantic scenes they got.
Anyway, I am proud of this movie for taking that step forward, and it really is too bad that a fourth film will never be made (I DID RESEARCH!) to take advantage of the opportunity to take it a step even further…
So that is my make up for my last review. (You should check out some of the hate review I got from some of you guys.)
I hope this makes you realize that I don't the chipmunks, I was just a little disappointed by this particular film.
Btw, if you get the chance please check out my other story. I put a lot of time and effort into it and it hasn't been getting much attention.
