Chapter 13: The country that had a Hero
"AHH! Ouch!" Naruto had fallen on his head for the 50th time. He was all beaten and scratched up now as was Sasuke. All their lines were still around the same place they started. Danny and I did better each time, but our stamina was being tested. I was willing myself to continue, to get better when Naruto said, "Shoot!" I looked over at him, hoping that he wasn't just going to give up. He came over to both Danny and I and whispered, "Hey do you think you could give me any tips?" I smiled slightly, happy that he wasn't going to quit.
Danny and I were asked to protect Tazuna until he finished the bridge. While Danny sat on the ledge, I paced around impatiently. I wanted something to do, something to train on. I was in a training mood, and it was getting hard to sit still. "Where's that blonde kid and the other one?" Tazuna asked. "They are both training." I stopped and looked over at Tazuna "You two don't have to?" "We do… but since we are better right now, Kaka told us to protect you." Just then, one of his workers asked to quit building the bridge. Tazuna let the worker leave but he, himself refused to leave. I looked at him, with new found respect. "Tazuna-san. If you want… I could help you. It'll be faster that way, won't it? Even if just a little bit?" I asked. He smiled at me.
Walking back to Tazuna-san's house I heard someone say, "Wait! Thief!" I ran towards the voice and saw someone running away, holding a purse. I ran to the thief and kicked him. The lady thanked me over and over again, and feeling sorry for the thief, I let him go. When we got to the place Tazuna wanted to be in, someone tried to reach into Danny's purse, and she also kicked him.
"You sure surprised me earlier. I had no idea you had the strength to knock him out in one go." Danny blushed and looked down at the ground. "This city…" I started and felt something pull on my clothing. I looked behind me, at this child holding out both hands. I rummaged through my bag and found my secret stash of sweets and bread. I took 7 lollipops, 10 hard candies, and some raisin bread out for the child. His eyes lit up and he smiled widely as he ran back to where he was before. "It's been like this since Gatou came. All the adults have lost hope. That's why we now need that bridge. A symbol of courage… we need for the people to lose their fear and regain the desire to stand up for themselves. If that bridge… if that bridge can be completed, the city will return to that time… the people will return to how they used to be."
"Wow! This is super fun! It's been a long time since we ate with so many people." Tazuna-san said while Naruto and Sasuke stuffed their faces. "Naruto… Duck butt… if you two eat that fast…. You are going to puke. "More!" they cried at the same time as they said that they looked at each other and threw up. "I told you. Stop eating for a moment and rest instead." "No, I must eat" Sasuke looked at me. "Yeah, we have to no matter what. Because we have to become stronger." Naruto finished. "I'm not saying stop eating completely. I'm just saying if you keep puking.. you're going to just going to lose more nutrients faster than your body can make more. You two are going to get weaker instead!" I reasoned. They looked at each other, then at me, and slowed down their eating. After dinner, I noticed a photo on the wall. I stared at it for a while, wondering why part of it was torn. I didn't ask for fear that I would bring up any bad memories. I tried to think of scenarios in which could have happened.
"-iyo Kikiyo!" I heard Naruto's voice. "Huh? What?" I quickly turned to face Naruto. "I said, what are you looking at?" He turned to look at what I was facing. "N-nothing." I stuttered out. He took me by surprise and I stuttered out a lie. "That photo…" Naruto started. "It's my husband…" the lady said, I know it was rude of me but I forgot her name already. "And… the man called the hero of the city…" Tazuna continued. The kid, I believe his name was Inori, stood up and left. "Inari, where are you going?!" Oops… I was wrong. "Inari!" the lady called. "Father! I have told you not to talk about that man in front of Inari!" She walked out and slammed the door behind her. "What's wrong…?" I asked, curious about what had just unfolded in front of us. "There seems to be some kind of explanation." Kaka said. "Inari had a father not related by blood. They were very close, like a real father and son… Inari would laugh a lot back then…" At the explanation of a step-father, I remember my own "family". I looked at Tazuna-san and saw that he was trembling, "But Inari changed… since the incident with his father… The word 'courage' has been stolen from the people of this island… and from Inari. Ever since that day… because of that incident." Tazuna-san started crying. I closed, my mouth afraid to push it. "That incident? What happened to Inari-kun?" Kaka asked, practically reading my mind. Tazuna-san took off his glasses and wiped away the tears while saying, "Before I get to that, I first have to tell you about the man who was called the hero of this city." "Hero…?" Naruto asked. Tazuna started the story.
Apparently, about 3 years ago, Inari met a man, when his dog, Pochi, was taken by some older children. The older children threw Pochi into the water and told Inari to get Pochi himself, but Inari didn't know how to swim. Inari was pushed into the water and started drowning, while Pochi learned how to swim. When Inari had woken up, he was on dry land and a man was cooking fish for him. The man encouraged Inari to be stronger, to have courage. "His name was Kaiza, a fisherman who came here to follow his dreams. After that, Kaiza and Inari became very close. It may have been because Inari's real father died before he got to know him, but he and Kaiza were inseparable, like a real father and son. It was only a matter of time before Kaiza became part of the family. And Kaiza was also a man the city needed." Tazuna-san continued. One day the rain was overflowing the dams and Kaiza went to help fix the dams, and he succeeded. "Kaiza was called a hero by the people of this city. And Inari could not be prouder of his father. But Gatou came to this city…" Tazuna-san trailed off. "And then this incident happened? What exactly happened?" Kaka asked. Tazuna-san started shaking, "In front of everyone, Kaiza was… Put to death by Gatou! From that day Inari changed… as did Tsunami… And the whole city…" The room was silent for a moment, then Naruto got up and tripped. "If you're thinking of training, take the day off. You've released too much chakra, anymore and you could die." Kaka said. I walked over and helped Naruto back up. "Thanks… I'm going to prove it… I'm going to prove, that in this world… heroes do exist!" "I will too!" I smiled. Danny nodded as she walked over.
While Danny had gone back to get some breakfast for us, Naruto and I were taking a quick nap in the sun. "You'll catch a cold sleeping in a place like this." I heard someone faintly say. I heard Naruto yawning and then shaking me awake. "Who are you?" I heard Naruto ask. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and looked at this pretty girl crouching near Naruto. She said she was looking for a plant and we volunteered to help her find it. "This plant is medicine?" I asked curious on what it could do. "Yes… Thanks for helping out." She replied. "You sure are working early, lady." Naruto said. "Both of you too. What are you two doing here at this time of the morning?" she asked. "We are training!" I answered.
Kikiyo: I'm too lazy to finish it today….
Naruto: this is a weird place to end the story ._.

Kikiyo: well… I wanted to update today….
Naruto: uh huh.
Kikiyo: be quiet! . -duck tapes Naruto's mouth-
