I was feeling thoroughly depressed. I'd just been basically told "Oh yeah man, your bro fancies the girl you're in love with yeah man." Maybe in a bit less of a chavy way but it still happened! Oh, I forgot to mention. I didn't just fancy Hermione. I…I loved her. And I refused to believe that Fred, FRED WEASLEY, was also in love with her. I mean, perhaps a little crush but I honestly doubted that he loved her.
Quidditch went okay, I felt bad for having a go at Hermione but I couldn't do anything about it when I was on a broomstick trying to catch a ball in mid air. McLaggen was terrible! I was actually scared that that great doofus might actually be better then me. Okay, he was a little bit better then me. But I'm the one who got on the team. And just so you know, the reason I missed the Quaffle was because I was watching Hermione…with him. No, not Fred. Draco Malfoy. The evil, sour faced, lousy, effing, blood hating git! I just wanted to chuck the Quaffle at his overlarge head! And for some reason I saw them both laughing? What the bloody hell was going on I have no idea. Well, anyway. As I walked out of the changing room with my flaming hair in a mess I saw Hermione Granger waiting for Harry and me outside.
"Ronald, I'm sorry if I've done anything wrong but –"I pulled her into a great bear hug. Trying to put all the unsaid things into it, though, I probably didn't do a very good job.
"Its not you, its me." I mumbled into her shoulder. I pulled back and smiled, asking in a way if I was forgiven.
"Come on." Hermione dragged me away, not waiting for anyone else, but just dragging me away by my hand and walking us across the fields, around the lake and underneath the tree that I had sat under just a few nights ago with Percy.
"So, why did you accuse me of dating your brother?" She asked, her dark brown eyes filled with curiosity
"Because I saw him kiss you." I murmured
"On the cheek?"
"Yeah…"
"Why so bothered Ronald?" Hermione asked with a straight face.
"Er… Because Fred and Angelina are going out right?" I said, thinking off of the top of my head.
"No…? He said they're not going out, as did Angelina. You have some explaining to do Ronald." She laughed a mesmerizing laugh.
"Ha ha. So, do you think I did okay today?" I asked, trying to change the subject
"You did brilliantly! McLaggen didn't stand a chance."
"He fancies you you know." I murmured
"Who? McLaggen?"
"Yeah."
"He wont get anywhere with that then will he." She smiled. I knew I shouldn't have done it, with me dating Lavender and all but I leaned forward. And much to my surprise so did she. Our foreheads were resting against each other. Our lips were an inch apart. I could feel her warm breathe on my lips.
"Won- Won!" Hermione pulled back quickly and grinned, looking at her feet. Lavender soon joined them.
"Won Won! What are you doing with her?" she asked disapprovingly.
"Well, Hermione happens to be one of my best friends." I told her. Lavender stormed off in a sulk. Hermione looked up, grinning still slightly.
"Come on, I'm sure you have many more admirers back in the Common Room." She took my arm and we walked back to Gryffindor Tower. Though, sadly, nothing else happened between us that day.
I was walking around the halls by myself, about to go get some more snacks for the party up in the Gryffindor common room. George had hosted it; it was for the new Gryffindor Quidditch team. The halls were quiet, I didn't even hear foot steps, yet alone voices. But when I reached the hall where the Portrait was to get into the Kitchen I did hear some voices. I stayed around the corner, listening intently. I edged my flaming red head round and saw Percy Jackson, Grover Underwood, Annabeth Chase and Tom Cameron.
"What do you mean?" Annabeth asked.
"I mean, Malfoys up to something. He keeps going to the seventh floor, and Harry told me that's where the Room of Requirement is." Came Percy's hushed tone.
"Percy you're worrying about nothing." Tom muttered.
"What would Chiron say if we didn't check it out?" Percy said, quite forcefully. Who was Chiron? I had heard that name in Muggle Primary School, but I wasn't sure where.
"We don't want to bother him; he has enough going on at Camp Half Blood." Annabeth said frantically.
"Look the sooner we're back to thrashing monsters, seeing the Gods and being awesome Demi Gods instead of Wizards the better. So let's not complicate things." Tom said.
"I agree, there's no point." Grover murmured.
"But what if this is the reason we were sent on the quest? What if we're meant to find out what hes doing?" Percy said.
"Percy, just drop it. You two get back to the Gryffindor party, Annabeth, you might as well go finish your Homework and I, I am going to sleep." Grover said.
"Geez Grover, alright." They all murmured. I heard a pair of foot steps coming my way so I hid in the shadows. Tom and Percy walked past though Tom stopped, and looked over his shoulder. He shrugged and walked off with Percy.
Camp Half Blood?
Chiron?
Quests?
The Gods?
Thrashing Monsters?
Demi Gods?
Greece. That's where I had heard it. Chiron was the centaur from the old myths, Demi Gods would be sent on Quests by the Gods and they usually met Monsters who they had to kill on the way. But Camp Half Blood? Maybe that was where the Demi Gods lived? I strolled into the Kitchens not really thinking about the food, more on the subject of Greek Demi Gods.
"Hey there Dobby." I said half heartedly.
"Mr Weasley! What can Dobby do for you kind sir?" The small house elf squeaked. I ducked down to his level and pulled out of my pocket a pair of socks that Mum had made me at the start of the year. They were bright orange with stars that light up on them.
"Why don't you have this Dobby? I hear you like socks." I said, smiling at Dobby's green tennis ball eyes.
"Ooh thank you Mr. Weasley! Dobby is honoured!" He said happily as I dropped the socks into his little hands. He pulled them on over his other green pair.
"Dobby, I have four favours to ask you. Do you reckon you could pull them off?" I asked.
"Yes sir! Dobby would of course help Mr. Weasley!"
"First off, can you tail Percy Jackson, Tom Cameron, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood? And don't let them see you. Can you tell me exactly what they've talked about and been up to? And only talk to me if Im on my own or with George?"
"Yes I can do that Mr. Weasley!" The elf said, nodding up and down as his ears flapped.
"Secondly, can you find out if Hermione fancies me?"
"I can try kind sir!"
"Can you and your friend's magic up loads of food and drinks to the Gryffindor common room?"
"Of course sir!"
"Lastly, can you please just call me Fred?" I asked.
"Of course Master Fred." The elf said happily.
"No, just Fred. No master."
"Okay…Fred!"
"Thanks Dobby. Ill see you soon." I smiled and walked out of the Kitchens. Now to the Library. Yes, I Fred Weasley was going to the Library. I missed Mrs. Norris by a second by going through one of my shortcuts. I soon arrived in the Library, with all the dusty books and what not. Suddenly I wished Hermione was here to help me find the right book.
"Fred?" A warm voice asked.
"Hermione?" I spun around and saw Hermione sitting at a table, her book propped up in front of her and her wand alight so she could read. "What are you doing down here?" I asked.
"Trying to get away from it all. I can't be bothered to watch Lavender and Ronald snog all night and I have homework to finish." She said.
"Oh…" I murmured, my peppiness being taken away from her comment about Lavender and Ron. "Well, Hermione could you help me find a book?" Trying to restore my tone in voice.
"What for?" She asked suspiciously.
"A Muggle book! A Muggle Ancient History book actually." I said, scratching my head.
"Sure…" She stood up and wandered down an isle I'd never been down before. She ran her delicate hand over the books and soon withdrew not one, but eight. She dropped each one into my hands.
"Thanks Hermione." I propped the books opposite Hermione and looked through their names. The Ancient Gods of Greece. How to heal a Hydra Burn. How to identify Gods. Why never to go near a Gorgon. Greek Gods and Goddesses A History. How to Identify Demi Gods in the modern age.
That's the one that caught my eye. I opened it and saw long words that I probably wouldn't understand.
"Hermione?" I whined. She looked up from her book, quite annoyed.
"Yes?" She asked sarcastically.
"What does this word mean?" I pointed it out.
"It means brown hair."
"Ahhh…" I read it, and from the description it was giving, it matched Percy exactly. I then read about Demi God powers, one said that some Demi Gods can control the ability to make people angry without even talking to them and to control the conversation. I remembered the day when Tom and I were arguing in the Burrow.
"You shouldn't have touched it!" I yelled.
"Well you shouldn't have left it lying around!" Tom shouted back.
"Well it's my house, not yours!" Then a sudden feeling crept over me. A guilty feeling for yelling at the kid. "Look, let's just drop it." I said, walking off.
He'd manipulated my mind so it suited him best.
Another said that children of Athena were far too intelligent for their ages.
Annabeth. She was just as smart as Hermione. If not… Smarter? No… She couldn't be.
But, there was nothing in here that related to Grover. Nothing. But I was sure he was part of this. So you know what I did? I bid Hermione good night and ran up stairs to the Gryffindor Common Room where I saw Tom and Percy laughing loudly on the sofa.
"Hey, you two? Can I have a word? In private?" They led me up to their dormitory, where I silently locked the door.
"So guys, where were you before Hogwarts?" I asked, looking at the two who had just exchanged hurried looks at each other.
"Grimsure." Tom said hurriedly.
"I thought it was Grimsaw Tom? Or… Are we forgetting our cover story? You Demi Gods aren't that great with the memory are you?" I chided. Percy's jaw dropped while Tom remained the same. Tom stood up from his bed and pulled my collar while poking his wand underneath my chin.
"You won't tell anyone." He growled.
"Or what?" I smiled.
"Ill hurt you quite badly."
"Tom –"
"Don't worry Perce, hes not really in a position to be making threats." I nodded down to where my wand was pointing at his chest. We let go at the same time.
"You'll tell me everything or your secret is out." I layed down on Tom's empty bed.
"It'll take a while…" Percy murmured, glancing at Tom who was fuming at the repeat in history.
"I have all night."
