I wake up due to the sun's heat.

If I could have I would have just kept on sleeping, I wasn't ready to face reality.

Neither of us were ready.

I gather whatever is left of my strength, although I slept a long while, I still feel drowsy, so it takes a while for my body to adjust.

I look down at my murderous hands.

They're gone.

The strange metallic knives which once killed a man.

But when will they come back?

How do I control it?

Can I control it?

These questions occupy my mess of a mind for a minute or two, before I realize that I have no idea where I am.

Here I am again.

Blood on your hands

Clothes tattered

"I am aware of this" I say aloud to Roland with attitude.

Don't get mad at me!

"If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be in this mess in the first place!" I yell with anger that has been pinned up for so long.

A moment of silence passes as I quickly regret my inconsiderate response to Roland.

My best friend.

And as it seems, my only friend.

The hills roll and the sky is clear.

You're right, Connie. Because you'd be dead.

3 Hours later:

So here I am in this tiny village, a farming village.

Mostly grapes.

I've climbed to the very top of the highest hill I could find, a most difficult task to perform when you have been completely striped away, mentally and nearly physically.

But I've made it.

The sun starts to yawn as I join in also.

But I can't sleep now.

I have to get back.

Why?

Why, go back?

"It's my home." I say with determination.

I can see that the urbanization starts to maximize west.

Ha! We both know that is a lie.

"My home is wherever I choose."

1 day later:

I'm starving.

I'm tired.

And I'm dirty.

But I have a mission.

I need to get back to where I was before.

In the city.

"Watch out."

"Whats your problem?"

"Move!"

My legs are sore.

My eyes are heavy, making my whole world seem small and dizzy.

But I made it, I am here.

Back home.

Why doesn't it feel like home?

A cold rush of water gathers around my entire body.

Wow.

Nice going Katya, you feel into a fountain.

You need rest, Connie. You've been walking for hours.

And where I am to rest?

My old alley is probably taped up by the police.

My stomach growls and I just then realize how incredibly hungry I am.

Suddenly aware of my hunger, I am wide awake and motivated to find some food.

Following the scent of baked bread and the loud deal making noise between customer and seller, I make my way to the market.

My mouth waters at the sight of the baked bread.

However, I am well aware that there is no way that the seller would be willing to give me fresh baked bread, when I have nothing to offer in return.

Especially, this seller who is one of the meanest sellers here.

Nonetheless I have a way of getting food when broke, its quite simple actually.

Behind every display in the market there are medium sized trash cans, all I have to do scrounge through his and get some thrown out bread.

As I start to do so, I find a good piece, thankfully due to the busyness and loudness of the crowd I am not nervous of anyone catching me or ratting me out.

Hypnotized by the amazing taste of such horrible and disgusting bread, I do not notice at first that the seller has caught me, until he clears his throat.

I look up and look into the eyes of a very angry man, out of the corner of my eye I can see that everyone around us who had once been shopping was now staring as the seller started yelling at me.

"YOU FILTHY SCUM, WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!" He yells with a rage that demands an answer and attention from anyone within 50 feet of us.

"I-" I try to start talking but I stutter over my words.

"I-I-I-I-I" He says mockingly to me.

I try to control my breathing so I can answer him.

"I was merely trying to eat, your garbage, sir." I say just loud enough for him to hear.

I look down and notice I'm still holding the bread.

People start whispering to each other.

I can hear them so clearly.

"What filth."

"She's a mess, isn't she?"

The man quickly starts back up again.

"THAT GARBAGE ISN'T FOR SCAVENGERS LIKE YOURSELF, ITS FOR ACTUAL USELESS BEINGS LIKE MY PIGS BACK AT HOME!"

The watchers chuckle and snicker at the insult.

He leans in closer to me pointing a finger at me, I am too shocked and frozen to move back.

"Now you get the hell out of my face, before I take that piece of crap necklace and stick it down your dirty mouth, you daughter of filth."

He pushes me and I land back on the hard ground and the crowd clears away from me, going on about their business as if nothing had even happened.

He called me- what did he call me?

Connie, don't you listen to him, he has no idea what he's talking about.

I start sweating profusely , I am now sitting on the same exact spot on the ground on which he pushed me onto.

People go around me and snicker.

Its suddenly extremely hot.

Breathe Connie.

Breathe.

I try but the pain is starting to elevate in my hand again and its near impossible not to cry.

No one notices.

Connie, don't tell me its happening again.

A tiny shriek escapes my mouth as I look down and notice the very tip of the growing metallic claws making their way, penetrating their way out of my skin.

Get out of there, Connie! Run, before anyone sees!

"Mommy, whats wrong with that girl?" A small child to the right of me says pointing to my now larger claws.

"Ahh!" The lady screams pushing her child back and pointing at me, I look up to see a very frightened lady.

"My God!" A person yells in horror.

"Its a mutie!" An angry woman not too far away yells.

Run, Connie, before they jump you!

I quickly jump on my feet sending fear through the crowd.

"Stay back, you scum!" Yells a man with a rather large gun pointed at me.

My heart starts beating faster then before, I look down at the child, but he isn't scared.

The mother is crying.

Crying in fear.

Crying in horror.

I now see that my claws are full grown now.

I quickly start running, before the crowd can get their hands on me.

I have to keep my hands above my head to make sure not to hurt anyone as I run away.

But they follow.

They follow with shouts and threats.

Insults.

Slurs.

I have to lose them quick.

The bay.

What?

Lose them , by jumping into the bay.

Without further hesitation, for fear of losing my life I make my way towards the bay, the crowd gradually catching up to me, still yelling, still angry,

With all the strength that I can gather I run and take a refreshing dive into the life saving bay.

The water envelopes me.

I feel safe.

I stay under water still holding my breath and wait for the people to leave.

I still hear shouts.

Yet no one comes in the water after me for some reason.

Why not?

Probably because theres a boat heading for you right now.

Wow, thanks for the warning, Roland.

In a panicked frenzy I swim to get as far away as I can from the boat, leaving the rioters also.

They can't see me, because the boat is in the way, thank goodness.

Finally after 5 minutes or so, the crowd leaves.

Still scared, I wait another 5 to make sure no one is waiting to bash my head in, once I get out of the water.

I drag myself from the water to land, its dark now.

Must be about 7 or 8 o'clock.

Long day.

Yeah it was.
