I'm sorry for being gone so long but I have returned! Yay! This chapter may be short because it's late here but I have kept you all waiting for too long. Without further ado, here's Chapter 10! Please read and review. Thank you.
Ianto Jones drove silently. The atmosphere in the car was awkward. Though he knew that Aaron hadn't purposely abandoned them now, and that Jack had played a part in his mothers death, Ianto still felt a strong loyalty towards his boss while Aaron still felt like a stranger to him. He didn't know if he liked this feeling. He had trusted his boss, and still did, but something was telling not to, constantly reminding him of how little he actually knew about the secretive Captain Jack Harkness.
Ianto was grateful to be leaving London, even though he was leaving his teammates behind, he was also leaving the horrid memories of his childhood and Lisa which were fading more and more as he got further an further away from London.
Though Aaron still felt like a stranger to him, they still had that father-son connection and Ianto could tell he was nervous. The silent car journey probably wasn't helping Aaron but Ianto had already given him the amount of information about Rhiannon, Johnny, David and Mica which Ianto believed was necessary.
Ianto was unsure why he had the urge to remain silent. He knew he usually had this urge when he felt nervous but he didn't know what he had to feel nervous about. Aaron had the reason that he was meeting Rhiannon and Rhiannon had the reason that she was meeting Aaron but what was his reason? Ianto decided that he was probably just nervous about how Aaron and Rhiannon would react to meeting each other after many years.
"Do we have to spend this journey in silence?" The silence was finally broken by Aaron and Ianto found himself feeling grateful that the awkwardness had dissaperated, if only very slightly.
"I am unsure of what to talk about," Ianto replied honestly as he turned the car round a corner, passing a Welcome to Wales! sign. Ianto smiled. He was finally back in Wales and it wasn't much further to Rhiannon's house.
"I remember that smile!" Aaron grinned and Ianto realised that Aaron had been watching his movements. Unsure of how to respond to such a comment, Ianto focused his eyes on the road. "It's still the same smile as the one I recieved whenever I returned from work." This wasn't helping Ianto with preventing past memories from haunting him and the memories of running down those step, red coloured carpeted stairs, everyday at 5pm sharp, with that large smile, flooded back to him.
"Can you stop that?" Ianto exclaimed, finding the conversation more awkward than when they had been driving in silence and irritated with himself for allowing a childhood memory to return. Though this one had been a nice one, it could easily have been the time when Aaron had pushed him too hard on the swing and broken his leg. Ianto sighed when he noticed the hurt look on Aaron's face. "I'm sorry. I just haven't adjusted to the fact that I have got a dad who actually wants to talk to me now."
The conversation fell silent again and Ianto finally found the courage to ask a question he had been wanting to ask since Aaron had given him the letter back in London. "Did you know I was there?" Ianto asked quietly and softly.
"Where?" Aaron asked and Ianto couldn't help but wonder if he already knew what Ianto was about to ask but just wanted to buy some time, or if Aaron really was unsuspecting of the coming question.
"Working in the same building as you in Torchwood London," Ianto replied promptly.
Aaron's reply was quick and Ianto wasn't sure if he picked up a cold tone, "No."
Ianto turned the car onto Rhiannon's estate. Though he had his suspicions that Aaron had just lied to him, he wanted to be on talking terms with Aaron when Rhiannon met him so Ianto decided to leave the topic now, until later.
Suddenly remembering that Rhiannon had told him to give her warning before they turned up on her doorway, so she could get Johnny to take David and Mica out of the park to prevent them from getting in their way, Ianto pulled his phone out of his pocket and dialled her number, much to Aaron's protest. "Don't use your phone whilst driving," the older man exclaimed.
Ianto rolled his eyes, "What are you going to do? Arrest me?" He replied teasingly, his voice becoming serious when Rhiannon answered the phone. "Hi Rhiannon," he greeted her on the phone. "It's Ianto. We're almost there." He hung up.
Ianto stopped the car and looked out the window. There it was. Rhiannon's house. Ianto glanced at Aaron, who returning Ianto's glance with a nervous smile. "Let's do this," Aaron nodded confidently.
