A/N I own nothing!
He wasn't aware how long he stayed there lying in bed. He sent Thor away hours ago, and he hadn't seen James since the incident. Closing his eyes he took slow and steady breaths. He was sure something was broken but he hadn't built up enough courage to go and take a look at his injuries. Thor hadn't asked him about what happened and he was glad about that. Though he felt that Thor at least deserved some answers, he wasn't sure if he was willing to admit that he couldn't even handle what was happening to him. It should have been pretty obvious by now what was going on, even if Thor has only been there for a couple of days, he wasn't as slow as he looked.
Loki rolled his head to the side and looked at his alarm clock, 1:30 AM flashed back at him and he has still gotten no rest. He couldn't bear the idea of turning in his sleep and accidentally laying down on his broken rib. Well, at least he thought it was broken; the courage still wasn't there yet. He had to check the damage and tend to it however he could. Carefully he inched his way off the bed and made his way towards the bathroom. Closing the door behind him, he turned on the lights and got a good, harsh look at himself. The purplish bags underneath his eyes were dark and heavy, a clear sign of his lack of sleep. The whites of his eyes were blood-shot and his eyes a dull pale green. Slowly sighing Loki began to slowly unbutton his shirt, keeping his eyes shut until the finally button was loosen, and the shirt fell gently to the floor.
What Loki saw was far worst then he expected. The bruise was by far one of the worst he has ever gotten. It closely resembled something like rotting flesh. The black, green, and purple bruise seemed almost alien like compared to everything else.
Loki lightly attempted to place a finger on it only to flinch away in pain. This wasn't good. His hand slightly hovered over the injury and it was radiating heat and it seemed almost as if it was pulsing slightly.
Loki's grabbed his shirt, slowly placing it back into his body. He needed something to tend to his injury. Silently he slipped from the bathroom and made his way steadily down the stairs while simultaneously grabbing the house keys and his coat. Closing the door behind him, he set off on a lengthy, extremely painful, trip to the 24-hour convenience store down the street.
Thor laid there, staring blankly at the ceiling above him; his mind in all kinds of place. He feels as though he proprieties are shifting. His original goals where to find his Mjonir and go back to Asgard as soon as possible, but now that he is here, with Loki, that goal is the last thing on his mind. The pain in Loki's eyes had cut him deep. This was the man who showed him nothing but kindness and here he was, keeping all this pain to himself. Not only was Thor conflicted, he was angry, extremely angry. If it were not for Loki's plead, he would have instantly ripped James head from his body. James was cold, even when his lover was on in agonizing pain. James was no good for Loki, and anyone with half a brain could see that.
He rolled over on his side, then to the other, not able to find a comfortable spot. He had so much running through his mind, it didn't seem like sleep was gracing him with its presence tonight.
Shaking his head he sat up, swinging his legs around the side of the bed. Running his hands through his blond locks, he decided he needed some fresh air. Putting on one of the shirts Loki provided him, he quietly made his way outside the home, trying his best not to wake up anyone on his way out. Closing the door he sat down on the porch of the house and stared into the sky.
'The stars of Midgard looked especially bright tonight.' Thor thought. His days here, he assumed would be limited. But since he has been here, he has gotten no news of anything or of anyone back home. Staring into the night sky, he never realized how small he was, a simple speck on the face of the universe. Even in his absence, life would continue. Everyone on Asgard will continue to wake up, and go about his or her day. There was no need for him to rush back home. Asgard was a kingdom of warriors they could protect themselves. The absence of one solider could not affect the efforts of a nation.
"Maybe…just maybe I could stay here for a while..." he whispered
"Thor?" A questioning voice called, pulling Thor way from his deep thought. His eyes glanced over to the sound only to Loki standing on the outside of the gate.
"Loki? What are you doing out this late?" Thor asked surprisingly.
"I could be asking you the same thing. I thought you went to bed." Loki stated as he made his way slowly through the gate and up the porch. As carefully as he could, he placed his brown paper bag on the floor and sat down next to Thor.
"I could not sleep very well…do you always do your shopping this late?" Thor mused, attempting to get a glance at the items inside of the bag. " Do you have any more of The Poptarts?"
Quickly, Loki put the bag behind him to shield it away from Thor. " No, I do not. I couldn't sleep either, so I thought it would be best to buy some personally items I am in need of… Is James awake?"
"I would think not, the house was silent when I came outside." Loki sighed as he let his body relax a little. He glanced up at the glittering stars lighting up the night sky. He always loved the stars, but lately, could never really enjoy them.
"Gorgeous aren't they." Thor whispered, he too looking up at the sky.
"Yeah… they look so happy up there… far away from anything that could harm them. And the moon… look at it, it so big tonight, it almost seems like it's up there protecting the stars… its lovely" Loki whispered. Thor glanced over at Loki, who seemed completely in grossed in the night sky.
"When I was younger, I was quite rumbustious. Sleeping outside more often than I slept indoors. When things were getting stressful or too much to handle, I would always find comfort in looking up at the sky." Loki stated, his smile not reaching his eyes. "I use to think, that if I believed hard enough, I would find someone who would take me away from the world, from everything, and I would be free." Loki huffed slightly, his voice getting softer with each word. "What a childish dream…"
Thor did not know how to respond. He could be that person that takes Loki away, away from everything, bring him somewhere new, where he could finally live in peace and away from any fear. But no words could escape Thor's mouth. He just simply stared at Loki, watching, observing him carefully. His vibrant green eyes, now dull, and the bags under them seem to become darker with each passing day. Although his face seemed hollowed and body seemed drained, under the stars and moonlight, he was still nothing short of beautiful.
Loki, feeling Thor's gaze on him, coughed uncomfortably attempting to break the silence.
"Well it's late. It would be best if we head inside." He smiled at Thor, while slowly retrieving his stuff and getting up.
"You are correct." Thor commented moments later, him to getting up from the porch and heading inside. They both made their way quietly up the stars, Loki stopping in front of the bathroom door.
"I guess this is where we part ways," he stated awkwardly, " I'm going to just put some of these stuff away in the bathroom before heading to bed. Thor nodded, making his way towards his bedroom. "Good night Thor." Loki whispered as he silently close the door behind him.
"Good night…" Thor responded as he made his way back to his bedroom. Closing the door behind him, Thor sat on his bed, his mind still ablaze with thoughts. He had so much he wanted to learn, wanted to ask about Loki, and what better night than any, when both of them were restless. After a couple of minutes, Thor got up from his bed one more leaving his room and headed towards the bathroom.
"Loki I hav… " Thor began only to stop dead in his tracks when he opened the door.
"Thor!" Loki gasped attempting to cover himself. There he stood, shirt removed, bruises and scars fully exposed, and there was Thor, standing there, seeing everything. His heart dropped into his stomach as he watched realization hit Thor's face.
"Its… its not what it looks like." Loki whispered, his heart beat pounding loudly in his chest. But it was too late.
Thor was already visibly shaking with anger as he raced down stairs, ready to attack, ready to kill.
His anger, already focused on one man...
James.
