Chapter 16: The Nightmare Begins: Battle's End

It was an assured and swift victory. A victory all parties were thankful for. However it has added conflict on the mind of a golden haired puella who quietly stared at her miko friend as they happily parted with their juniors and walked back to the cake shop were the others were waiting (like hell they did). Mami was quite as a mouse, fidgeting like crazy. She was deathly nervous as to what happened next. In fact, pure dread washed over her as they continued to walk as the last time this kind of conversation happened caused a great tragedy. Hell, she was still unsure if her kohai Sakura, Kyouko had a grudge or not. And now here was Reimu and later the rest of the girls. Honestly, she was not looking forward to it, she was not ready to explain and considering how protective both of her best friends were...

"You do not need to explain right away." the miko suddenly said. It made Mami jump and turn. "There is a reason you didn't say. And until you are ready we will wait and then... when that day comes, we will listen. I do not know why you are like this when your... darker side of life is in question but I will not pry... Not yet." Reimu, who was behind her, gave her a smile, not just any smile. The smile she rarely gives to anyone, even them. A real happy smile, the genuine one that is never often seen. It made her cry. And in a moment of weakness lunged to her friend and cried. Remembering how different her relationship was to her, to Mirai, to the other girls than to Kyouko, to her so called confidant Kyubey and to the rest of the world. The miko smiled, for she knew how fragile her friend is and how she could easily shatter. Her childhood was never filled with rainbows and unicorns, and was filled with things dark enough to warrant the girl to a psychiatric ward. Heck, the fact she was fully functioning was a miracle in itself. Homura stupidly voiced this much to the miko's chagrin (giving the time traveler a severe beating) though it is a good point. Point goes to the incubator she guessed.

"Reimu?" her blonde friend suddenly called, the miko stopping in her tracks for a few seconds. "Thank you for believing in me. For what I know of you... I am surprised to see you not angry at me."

"Power is responsibility. Am I correct? I told this to you long ago during our first meeting. Saying I will beat the tar out of anybody who did not take this seriously or did not give enough caution." the miko responded, in which the blonde nodded. The miko rubbed the ridge of her nose in frustration. "Clearly... do you think you are part of either category?" The blonde nodded again. Reimu sighed, clearly the torture of her childhood affecting Mami was way too great to ignore. "We will talk about it... but like I said... only if you are ready."

"Are you... sure?"

"Yes Mami. I am sure."

"You are not going to force me?"

"You know me for over two years and in those years I never did lie or show dissatisfaction towards you or anybody. You know I complain, I rant of stupid things and voice out horrid opinions but..."

"You never did anything foolish. You never did get mad. You always understood..." the blonde smiled, remembering the times she was with the miko from the beginning of their friendship. "You know... at times, Mirai and I would assume you were perfect. Yes... even if we see many of your faults." the blonde chuckled and the miko gave an unthreatening glare. "Honestly it was hard not to..."

"Is that so?"

"Everybody says so Reimu. From me and Mirai, to our classmates, everyone who knows you at school, everyone..." the blonde stopped as the miko held up a palm, clearly blushing.

"I feel that everyone's perception of me is getting completely bothersome. It helps that I do not deserve such a reputation."

"As always Reimu, such humility." Reimu just snorted at this and continued on.

With the seniors returning to the cake shop, the three juniors or good to the two normals began to pester the only mahou shoujo they had on their ranks for information. Homura clearly was not amused by this, nevertheless the two continued on. Then again why wouldn't they? After all the subject in question was the school idol Hakurei, Reimu.

"Honestly guys, I barely know anything about her." 'Yes, she just beat uu-me up and then dragged me off to... *shudder*' Homura voiced out. Honestly she didn't want to remember that. She got beat up ten ways to Sunday then gotten a very long lecture and then to the good doctor... Truth be told she should be lucky for the treatment that she received. She no longer was in danger in turning into an eldritch abomination and her sanity along with it. Still it was still horrible and painful... very painful... She shuddered, she really did not want to experience that again, heck she swore to take care of her health better from now on.

"But you hang out with her a lot." Sayaka insisted, Madoka nodded at this. Homura resisted the urge to palm her face, never did she thought she see the day when Sayaka and Madoka fangirled over someone. Then again, considering who the person is, is not that difficult to see why. Still it was the reason why it was so complicated. Reimu is a powerful barrier maiden miko who guards a particular 'hidden world' that houses those who have been discourage to continue living in the normal world. She had way too many secrets that she knows she will never find out. Then there's Mirai, who surprisingly shocked her as the girl is in fact a devil child. A child of Satan/Lucifer (who surprised her to be a very nice guy who is overstressed with work (why wouldn't he?)) which is very shocking when one thinks about it. But nonetheless Homura knew that she can't tell them anything. So the only thing she could do was to sigh and move forward ignoring the pleas of the two with her.

"Hello..."

"Lelouch-san."

"Ah! Mirai, how good of you to call."

"..."

"Mirai?"

"Lelouch-san... my father asks you to visit. The situation is very grave."

"I see... Thank you for calling..."

"So... more troubles?"

"It seems so my old friend."

"So... We're going to be busy then..."

"Indeed we are. Indeed we are..."
