Chapter 7- Reshiram
A/N: Um, I don't really know what to rant about this time o.o . Anyway this chapter is about Reshiram (and N) in B/W2, so enjoy! :3 (Also, this chapter was very research-intensive e.e)
Time passed. Two years, in fact. Two years spent with the "Hero of Truth". Despite it's pride as a legendary pokemon, Reshiram could not help but feel that it and its hero were unwanted in the world.
Days went by with the two simply battling, traveling throughout Unova, meeting people (for N) and keeping each other company. Simple, precious memories in the great, limitless mind of the dragon that it would come to treasure after leaving N.
The first sign that something was wrong was a kind of presence, for lack of a better word, deep within Reshiram's very being. At first, it suspected that something happened to Zekrom, but it quickly dismissed the thought. The truth was that Reshiram and Zekrom, halves of what used to be a whole, could sense each other to an extent. They knew when the other was hurt, or when the other was elated or the like– after all, they used to be the same divine being.
Zekrom brought with it a sharp shock, a slight jolt, likely due to its electricity–something that was so familiar yet so distant at the same time. This time, the presence, the feeling, was different.
Instead of the jolt that Reshiram knew and accepted, there was a harsh, cold wind.
Somehow, Reshiram knew that that icy wind's owner was a part of the Original Dragon as well. Just a part so empty and bland it had become unlike any other pokemon. For which part had it come from?
A shell. The empty shell left behind when Truth and Ideals left it. Without motivation, without purpose, without a reason for existing, to exist, to continue existing.
It should have died long ago.
Yet somehow, this pokemon so unlike any other, this poor, poor soul, continued to live on.
And now this wind was caused by a desperate cry for help.
Reshiram knew what had happened to it–it had been caught by humans in one of those balls that they snatched freedom away with. For some reason, Reshiram wanted to help it. Surprising, in that it did not even hesitate in attacking Zekrom before. Perhaps N's kindness had influenced it.
N's kindness made him enraged at the capturing of the pokemon Reshiram would eventually know to be Kyurem. Why? Had N not captured Reshiram a few years prior? Yet, the circumstances were different, so different. N had been meaning to use Reshiram for just and reasonable purposes through good means.
Due to this, N and Reshiram set off on a meaningful journey to locate the icy dragon that Reshiram felt.
On one of those days, they were flying above the Giant Chasm when Reshiram felt it.
That harsh wind, blowing stronger than ever. Kyurem was right below them.
Without consulting N, Reshiram began to fly down until Ghetsis, a boy and…it were visible to N. Ghetsis was commanding Kyurem to use a move on the boy. Shocked at Kyurem's machine-like, will-less obedience, the Dragon of Truth vaguely registered N commanding it to use Fusion Flare before it used the move, melting the ice around the boy.
"So you came… The freak without a human heart…N!" Ghetsis yelled, looking up at them. Eyes narrowing in dislike, Reshiram landed in front of the boy, and N dismounted. The human and N exchanged a few words, with Reshiram roaring to encourage N and intimidate Ghetsis.
Suddenly, Reshiram saw a dark-coloured orb rise high above Ghetsis, moving to hover over Kyurem. As it watched, the orb changed shape and stabbed into Kyurem, and the Ice dragon straightened up, the ice on those limbs that seemed too feeble to act as wings shattering and falling off with the sound of breaking glass. Under the ice were four small purple cone-like protrusions that managed to strike horror in the heart of Reshiram–they were so unnatural, so…human. Surely a part of the Original Dragon deserved to be completely natural? Or had the protrusions been completely natural, sprung from a desire to…to become one with Truth and Ideals?
Beady yellow eyes that reminded Reshiram of Zekrom's lightning gazed rather emotionlessly at Reshiram. That icy wind was blowing fiercely within Reshiram as it gazed at Kyurem, icy blue eyes showing nothing and so much at the same time.
All of a sudden, those protrusions began glowing, and purple energy-like substances shot out of them. Jumping back, Reshiram dodged it, taking flight. All it knew was that Kyurem wanted to attack it; to kill it, probably; and Reshiram did not want to die, it wanted to live, to live with N forever…
One by one, Reshiram dodged the beams. However, they were homing, and eventually the white dragon found them coiling around it as it watched in horror. Slowly, it began to fall, wings trapped, without any means of saving itself–and then it felt itself growing dormant, and soon it knew nothing.
The next thing Reshiram knew, it was surrounded by the cold, harsh wind. Like a small, quivering flame, it's will and presence was being crushed by Kyurem's wind. All Reshiram saw were the shocked faces of N and the boy, and when it moved, it had not been a conscious act. With much shock, Reshiram realised that Kyurem, that shell, that empty shell of the glorious Original Dragon, had fused with Truth–that would be Reshiram–to regain some of it's original glory.
In other words, it was one with Kyurem.
The small flame began to attempt to expand, to turn into a roaring fire that would wrench control from the howling wind–to no avail. Yet Reshiram could hear many small voices calling out to it, all silenced by a louder voice–N's voice. Despite not being able to hear what he was exactly saying, Reshiram sent what remained of it's will and voice back at both N and those tiny voices of the boy's pokemon, saying that it could be separated from Kyurem.
Then the wind covered the small flame, and Reshiram's will was beaten down and battered until it was nonexistent in the body of the fusion of the shell and Truth.
Finally, when Reshiram regained it's senses, it was standing facing Ghetsis who was yelling at the boy–evidently furious. It wasn't long before Ghetsis and the boy were engaged in a battle, with Kyurem nowhere in sight.
Those eyes of the boy…they reminded the great dragon of that human female named Hilda, eyes shining with determination and strength of heart. Longing to know what truth the boy held deep within his heart, Reshiram watched the battle intently.
After a long, difficult battle, Ghetsis was beaten and escorted away by someone, leaving his cane as a reminder of the events that had taken place that day. After thanking the boy, Reshiram and N left again.
Yet, the thought of that boy which reminded it so much of Hilda never left Reshiram's mind, and N sensed that too, sending the dragon out one day in the throne room of his destroyed castle.
That place held so many memories for Reshiram, the ones it regretted most being its attacking Zekrom without any hesitation, and that look in Zekrom's eyes–it had never, never wanted to fight it's other half. How Reshiram wished it could meet Zekrom again…to say what? It didn't know.
Standing alone, together, Reshiram and N battled the boy, Nate, in a search to find Nate's truth–and, like Reshiram expected, it was beaten. Then N said that he wanted it to go to Nate…but…
Protesting with a roar, Reshiram patiently listened to N speaking about how he would miss it too and how he would be fine on his own. The dragon knew it had to go–not doing so would be neglecting its purpose. As such, it accepted and retreated into the Light Stone, yet clinging onto the sound of N's voice–a voice it would remember forever. After all, all it wanted was to live with N, to spend time with N, the hero who had needed Reshiram–who made Reshiram feel that it was needed. Even as Reshiram fell dormant, it thought of N. It would remember N forever. N, the human who did more than see Reshiram as a weapon, a tool–the hero who had cared for it.
Slowly, Reshiram began to become conscious, recognising a kind of energy flowing from the place it had been brought to–Dragonspiral tower. Bursting out of the Light Stone, it faced Nate one last time in battle, just like how Zekrom had done with Hilda–and was caught. It's last thoughts as it was trapped in the poke ball were of Hilda, Nate, Zekrom and N. N. The boy who, even though he was not the Hero of Truth anymore, would always be dear to Reshiram.
