Amber Wishes
Summary: The heir of Team Rocket, the world's strongest pokemon, and...their dead friend. Follow Ash and Mewtwo as they journey to find a legendary pokemon powerful enough to revive their precious friend.
Author Notes: After thinking it over, the level system from the previous chapters will only be used as a general rule that is not always correct since it is the anime world and levels have a far less impact on the world than the game world.
Also I changed Ash's pokemon lineup. I already edited it in the revised version but for those of you who haven't gone back to read it I will post it here.

Chapter 1: Evolutionary Energy
"Nidorino use poison jab!"
"Nido, nido!" The 2 feet 11 inches, light purple, quadruple pokemon charged forward after he heard his trainer's commands with his horn coated in an ethereal and poisonous shaped energy, with intent on landing the attack on his opponent.
"Counter with shadow punch Gengar!"
"Gen, gen, gengar!" The ominously dark purple and bipedal pokemon responded as his red eyes targeted the nidorino. Rearing his right hand back purple sparks began to appear on his arm hand and gengar unleashed a a black fist with the purple sparks coating it at Nidorino.
Colliding head on with the attack an explosion engulfed Nidorino due to the ensuing clash of energy being disrupted. "Nidorino!" The pokemon shouted in pain.
"No, Nidorino! Are you okay!?" The trainer asked in concern as the smoke cleared revealing his pokemon covered in bruises and scratches.
Ash observed the ensuing battle from one of the portable desk at the Battle Club. The club was created for the enjoyment of trainers coming together and testing their skill. Each Battle Club is headed by one of the many Don Georges much like the Nurse Joys and Officer Jennys that existed throughout the pokemon world.
Normally there would be no desk at the battle field but it could easily be arranged since it wasn't that uncommon to see researchers using the facility to observe pokemon for their study or experiment.
Currently Ash was just observing them, trying to see the correlation between a sudden increase of a pokemon's strength and the mysterious variable.
His pokemon were out of their luxury balls -sans Mewtwo due the attraction that he would cause- watching the battle with disinterest. Artorius as usual when not training or battling was sleeping as evident ball the bubble coming out of his nose, while Tiamat sat down next to action, and Tyrant lay on top of Artorius.
Going back the phenomenon that Ash was trying to study, in essence it was the sudden increase of the energy within the pokemon that allows them to perform their attacks. The first time Ash witnessed the phenomenon was years ago when Tiamat was still just a dratini, and then a dragonair, along with Tyrant as a nidoran and a nidorino. There was one thing in common at those times, he was losing and desperately wanted to win. The only pokemon so far not to show it was Artorius but that was probably because the artificial enhancement made him so strong it wasn't necessary for him or the fact that Ash had grown in quite a trainer.
The phenomenon had stopped once Tiamat became a dragonite and Tyrant a nidoking and their strength along with Ash's tactics destroyed their opponents.
The energy wave that was recorded during those phenomena were found to be very similar to the wave of energy given off by pokemon during evolution. But the energy wasn't as intense as during evolution, but it does give a significant boost of power.
Ash speculated the reason why this phenomenon hadn't been studied by scientist was due to its rarity along with the fact that most researchers were researchers first and foremost before they were trainers, if they were trainers in the first place thus hardly any one of them even saw the effect in person and not to mention most just studied in labs and didn't battle. Of course they could have seen the phenomenon but only once as they hardly really went to watch pokemon battles and knew the difference of pokemon unless they were a trainer or with the right equipment.
So far despite having stayed for four days in the Battle Club and despite that, all the battle he witnessed were just average battle by average trainers who would never bring out that phenomenon out of their pokemons.
But during those four days Ash had read many articles concerning or relating to the subject creating his own thesis, of which the research document with the most influence on Ash's was by a Sinnoh Professor that concerned mostly with evolution and how 90% of pokemon are related and the implication of that on legendaries that don't evolve.
With all the data Ash made his own thesis concerning the phenomenon. Legendary pokemon were pokemon who evolved permanently from their previous forms by surpassing the genetic limit set onto them and as a result was changed forever. This will be known as the Third Evolution, making the formerly two stage evolution that was regarded as the limit to be false. Personally Ash wanted to call it the Evolution of Legends but that would sound too broad and unscientific. Who knows perhaps there would a Fourth Stage where pokemon who actually survived the Third Evolution would be legendaries. Perhaps even a Fifth Evolution. There were just too many factors and not enough data.
Plus without a legendary to compare their energy level to ordinary pokemon, there was no cold hard evidence to suggest the amount of energy that would be needed to accomplish that. And in the first place what could trigger such a large surge of energy in the first place?
Ash had examined Mewtwo with a diagnostic test, but even then he was but just one legendary and all pokemon even legendary differ from each other. Not to mention Mewtwo was artificially created to be superior to Mew. Unless Ash could actually get a legendary to diagnosed, he would have to make due with an approximation with Mewtwo's data. Even then the energy needed was already tens of times more than average pokemon.
Too many question, not enough answers.
Noticing the time, Ash closed the lab computer and disconnected it from his laptop. The laptop was useful for light research, analysis, and data storage but larger research specific computers were better for actual calculation and data gathering.
Returning his pokemon back into their luxury balls, Ash thanked the receptionist on his way out of the Battle Club. Outside there was a limo waiting for him.
"Hello again, young master." The chauffeur said as he opened the door for Ash to get in.
Ash didn't need to tell the chauffeur where to go as he had already had arrangement, hence why he stopped collecting data. That and the fact that he wasn't getting any necessary data so he decided to change the conditions.
Looking outside the window Ash watched the streets of Viridian City pass by him. Ash's current plan was to go to the Viridian Gym to battle as an interim gym leader.
To explain why the system of the Pokemon League Challenge must be explained first.
Within each region there exist numerous gyms and in order to allowed to participate in the league of each region trainers who take the challenge have to win eight badges from the gyms. Of course if gym leaders used their original team then it would a total massacre against most trainers. And that was besides the point, each gym specializes in a different kind of typing on order for the trainer to challenge and teach each trainer.
Also depending on the strength of the trainer pokemon specialized to challenge that strength will be used. The strength of the trainer is determined by the amount of gym badges they have, for example if the trainer was a beginner the gym leader will use about 2 pokemon of lower level to battle the challenger. If the trainer already had a gym badge the gym leader would use 2 or maybe 3 pokemon of stronger level to challenge the trainer and so on.
Of course if a trainer had already collected gym badges from different regions the gym leader would accommodate that with using pokemon reserved for a seven badged trainer or eight badged trainer.
Of course not all gyms were equal and this also reflected on which trainer they could give their badge to. For example the Pewter City Gym could only give badges up until the trainer had 4 badges. The Pokemon Inspection Agency or PIA for short is an agency that inspects Pokemon gyms to determine their value or even if they can still be gyms.
Of course that wasn't all a pokemon gym did, they also took in trainers to teach them. But each gym had different recruiting policy, for example the Pewter City Gym often took in beginners to teach them the basics.
And each gym also had different requirements for challengers to battle the gym leader for the chance of a badge. His father gym required that trainer had at least seven badges before even stepping into the gym and then after that the challenger had to battle and defeat 2 gym trainers. Viridian City was known as the hardest of the Kanto Region for a reason or at least one of the top three hardest. The Cinnabar Gym was known to be just as hard but mainly for the elusive location of the gym.
Of course it wasn't just the gym leader that could give out the gym badge, but the interim gym leader could also give it out as long as they met the requirement determined by the gym leader. Of course the PIA would occasionally sneak in to determine whether the gym leader or interim gym leader had the constitute necessary to give out a badge.
"Young master we have arrived." The chauffeur as he opened the limousine door for Ash, breaking him out of his thoughts.
"Welcome, young master." The gym trainers said as they greeted the gym leader's son. Acknowledging them with the barest of nods, Ash walked towards the balcony where his father usually fought the challengers.
Arriving at the balcony Ash saw the two computer screens at each side of the elegant and extravagant chair with the keyboard in front each of them. Sitting at the chair Ash began to boot up the computer.
If normal battles between trainers could not bring out that energy then what about the challenges that were designed to make trainers fight their very hardest? Plus...
Despite being a researcher, he wasn't originally researcher material in the first place. It was a learned love of learning and at his core Ash was still a trainer. No matter how weak or average he thought the other trainers were, Ash's patience thinned as he just watched the battle never participating in them himself.
This was perfect for him, one he could gather data, and two he could battle.
Seeing as the data collecting equipment, which were specifically placed on the walls of the gym on Ash's orders, were ready for the data collection Ash began to inspect the trainer that passed the gym prerequisite to battle the gym leader for the Earth Badge.
Or rather trainers to be more precise. 'Strange there are two trainers who have passed the prerequisite. Usually the gym hardly gets any trainer at all, barely once a month in fact.' Shrugging the thought out, coincidences like this happened after all.
The first one was a trainer called Leaf from town of Pallet. She had seven badges and was fighting the for her eight one, the Earth Badge. 'This girl only started her journey a few months ago and yet she already has seven gym badges when most trainers needed at least 2 or 3 years of experience before they even came this close to participating in a Pokemon League Conference. She has potential.' Ash thought as he observed the sandy brown haired colored girl and brown eyes. She wore a white sunhat with a red half of pokeball design. a sleeveless teal shirt, a red short skirt, teal socks, white shoes with a red line on the middle, and a yellow traveling purse.
The other trainer went by the name of Gary, also from the town of Pallet. 'He's Professor Oak's grandson. Compared to Leaf, it was kinda expected of him to be this good. Hmmm not only that he already has 10 badges. Not bad. But why would he want the extra badges? Perhaps it was to challenge a gym leader's real team?' Ash wondered.
Besides battling type specific pokemon specialized for these challenges, challengers could also challenge a gym leader's real team if they wanted to. Of course most in order to reach their level of strength gym leaders usually had focused on typing of pokemon and became a master of it. So their real team would be similar to their gyms only far stronger. But most trainers usually caught many different types, but those trainers usually never win a pokemon league. Only those truly exceptional could be master of many types, like the champion of the Sinnoh Region. But she was far above the other trainers, and plus most trainers never made it passed that point once reached.
Leaf walked in with heated anticipation of her gym battle. She had finally come this far, just one more badge and she would be able to qualify for the pokemon league conference.
It would be a "oh so glorious" moment were it not for the annoyance next to her, known as Gary Oak.
'I can't stand it how all he can do is brag! Every DAMN time! I know I shouldn't curse but...It's Gary Freaking Oak who never shut ups! Why did the receptionist allow Gary to walk in as well!? He should be made to wait outside while I battled!' Leaf internal yelled, knowing that Gary would ignore even if she complained.
Worse than that, Gary brought his cheerleading squad with her eyes, Leaf counted from 10 to 1 gradually calming herself down. Oh, the annoyance was still there, Leaf just tried her best to ignore 'it'.
The automatic doors opened with a crisp and clean sound allowing Leaf to look at the battlefield once more. It was just like last, the same dirt battlefield, the same lightings, the same atmosphere. But it wasn't exactly the same, there were the machines on the walls unlike the last time she was here when she battled the gym trainers.
But what caught her attention the most was the fact that the balcony wasn't empty like last time. Leaf was staring up at the figure whose face was covered by shadows created by the light. What she could tell was that he wore a lab coat and a some black clothing underneath. The shocking part was that the figure looked to around her age judging by the height.
"Welcome, Leaf of Pallet Town and Gary of Pallet." The figure said, there was no mistaking the youthful voice now. "I am the current interim gym leader, in other words I will be the to decide whether or not you will receive the Earth Badge."
Although Leaf already had her suspicions from the figure's- no the boy's position on the balcony, to hear that he was the gym leader even an interim one was still quite shocking.
"In accordance to the gym's rule I will first battle Leaf to determine her worthiness for the Earth Badge. Everyone else move aside."
Perhaps it was because he was the one in charge or maybe perhaps it was his compelling voice and mysterious aura, but everyone obeyed. Green and hs cheerleading squad moved to the side of the gym where spectators could be seated, the referee moving into the middle of a side of the battlefield, and Leaf herself moving towards her trainer square.
There was a tense silence as the interim gym leader stared into Leaf's eyes, while Leaf herself could only look at where she thought the boy's eyes were. Finally the referee broke the tense silence. "Is the challenger ready?" He asked Leaf to which she gave a positive nod.
"Very well," The referee said as he raised the red and green flags in his hand up. "This match will be between Interim Gym Leader Satoshi Ash and Challenger Leaf of Pallet Town. The Interim Gym Leader will only use 3 pokemon while the challenger may use up to a maximum of 6. Only the challenger may substitute. The battle will end when either side no longer has any pokemon able to battle or by forfeit!"
"Ready?" The referee asked as he looked both trainers. "Begin!" He said as he brought both flags down.
Of course there was an unspoken rule that the gym leader always chose his pokemon first. Ash brought his hands towards one of the ultra balls stationed on the side of balcony. Bringing it up to his face for just a brief moment he opened the pokemon unleashing the pokemon inside. "Go, Rhyhorn!"
Out came a rhinoceros like creature that was covered in gray, rocky plates.
Seeing the pokemon come out Leaf brought out her pokedex and aimed it at the pokemon. "Rhyhorn the spikes pokemon. Rhyhorn are ground and rock type pokemon that inept at turning because of its four short legs. It can only charge and run in one direction." Dexter said with his mechanical voice.
Nodding at the information Leaf brought out one pokeball from her purse before unleashing her pokemon as well. "Go Butterfree!"
Out came the butterfly pokemon, but unlike most Butterfrees, Leaf's Butterfree was pink instead of dark purple causing Ash to raise an eyebrow. 'An alternately colored pokemon, I've only seen those on the databases but never in person.'
"Butterfree use sleep power to disable Rhyhorn!" Leaf ordered her pokemon.
"Freeeeeee!" Butterfree replied as she began to move her wings back and forth and let out a green powder. After that Butterfree began to move towards Rhyhorn.
"Rhyhorn scary face." Hearing her trainer's command the spikes pokemon gave massive and utterly horrifying glare at Butterfree stopping her in her tracks. "Now, use rock blast!"
Again the spikes pokemon obeyed her trainer's command as a ring of white spheres circled her body before launching them at Butterfree. "Freeeee!" She cried out in pain as the super effective rock type attack scored a direct hit. Crying one more time Butterfree fell to the ground defeated.
"Butterfree is defeated, challenger call out your next pokemon!" The referee said to the shocked trainer.
"Return Butterfree! You did a good job," Leaf complimented her pokemon. "Now take a good long rest." Putting Butterfree's ball back into her purse Leaf took out another pokeball this time with more wariness. "Come on out Clefable!"
"Clefable," The fairy species pokemon said as his pink, star like body waved at Leaf before looking at Rhyhorn.
"Begin!" The referee said once more.
"Rhyhorn use bulldoze!" Rhyhorn grunted at his trainer's orders as she began to stomp towards Clefable and with each step the ground rumbled causing damage to the fairy type.
"Counter with meteor mash!" Clefable's hand grew white as she ran towards the charging pokemon ignoring the rumbling of the ground as best a she could. And once she was close she smashed her hand onto Rhyhorn's head. The two stood at stalemate.
"Rhy...HORN!" Rhyhorn cried out as he surged forward and ran over Clefable.
"Cle!" Clefable cried out in pain as she tried to stand up.
Leaf's eyes glinted as she saw Rhyhorn slowly turn around. "Now's your chance Clefable use return!"
Clefable's body visibly glowed as the return powered him and charged at Rhyhorn. Rhyhorn who was only halfway turned around when the fairy specie pokemon struck causing to cry out in pain.
Ash calm surveyed the situation. 'At Rhyhorn's position he would not be able to use any attack to hit Clefable so the only other option would be...' "Rhyhorn use magnitude!"
Rhyhorn whose eyes had been closed due to the pain that he was experiencing flapped open upon hearing his trainer's command. Rhyhorn with surprising agility unbecoming of his body jumped half a foot into the air before slamming back onto the ground causing a powerful shockwave.
"Cleeee~fable~" The disoriented pokemon twittered as the damage from the attack settled in.
"Rhyhorn take down now!" Ash commanded not letting the pink to recover.
Leaf clenched her fist. "We have no choice, Clefable use metronome!"
Clefable pointed his fingers upwards and moved them in a wave like motion as a light began to shine from them. Leaf desperately hoped that it would make it in time as Rhyhorn getting nearer and nearer.
"CLEFABLE!" Everyone had to covered their eyes as Clefable metronome went into effect just milliseconds before Rhyhorn's attack reached the fairy pokemon and with unexpected amount of energy too.
And everyone soon knew why as an explosion occurred.
Disbelief could be heard from Gary's voice as he muttered "I can't believe it. Of all the attacks Clefable could've gotten he got explosion..."
Once the smoke cleared from the explosion it was clear that both pokemon were in no condition to fight. "Both pokemon are unable to battle. Trainer please choose your next pokemon!"
Returning Rhyhorn back into his ultra ball, Ash placed the ultra ball back into its slot and took out the second one and unleashed the pokemon within it just as Leaf returned her pokemon. "Your turn Rhydon."
Rhydon came out in a red flash and showed off his grey, rhinoceros and dinosaur like body as it roared.
Leaf gulped as she saw the the large bipedal pokemon, who had a clear relationship with the former one. Bringing up her pokedex Leaf scanned the pokemon once more. "Rhydon the drill species pokemon. Rhydon is the evolution of Rhyhorn and standing on its hind legs freed its forelegs and made it smarter. It is very forgetful, however."
"Come on out Poliwhirl!" Out came a blue spherical body with two legs, two arms, white glove like hands, and two eyes.
"Begin!"
This time it was Leaf who made the first move. "Poliwhirl bubblebeam now!"
Clasping his hand together Poliwhirl sent a barrage of bubble towards Rhydon, who Ash commanded to use drill run.
Rhydon roared as the drill like horn on his head began to spin at high speed and charged towards Poliwhirl ignoring the rain of bubbles.
Seeing that Rhydon was shrugging off the attacks like nothing Leaf ordered Poliwhirl to dodge the attack. Thanks to Poliwhirls higher speed the water type pokemon dodged to the side just in time.
"Now's your chance, use brick break!" Leaf commanded and Poliwhirl's right hand began to glow white as he ran towards Rhydon's back.
However there was one miscalculation on Leaf's part. Rhydon unlike Rhyhorn had far more maneuverability.
"Rhydon grabbed Poliwhirl's hand."
"Poliwhirl!" The tadpole pokemon exclaimed as Rhydon suddenly turned around and grabbed his right hand, without any fear.
"Now, thunderbolt."
"Oh no! Poliwhirl get away now!" But it was too late as Rhydon electrocuted Poliwhirl with 100,000 volts.
"Poli...whirl..."
"Poliwhirl is unable to battle, challenger please send out your next pokemon!"
Recalling her Poliwhirl Leaf sent out Slowpoke next. But Slowpoke was even weaker than her Poliwhirl and predictably ended in her pokemon's defeat.
Her next pokemon although technically stronger than Slowpoke went just as badly, namely her Vulpix.
Calming herself down at the fact that Ash had defeated five of her pokemon with just two pokemon, of which one of them would have probably defeated more were it not for the metronome explosion, Leaf stared at her first pokemon. "I'm counting on you."
"You may have defeated my other pokemon but you haven't defeated my strongest yet! Go Venusaur!"
"Saur..." Ash was impressed at the slightly larger than average green quadrupled seed pokemon that Leaf had brought out. So far she had brought out only average sized pokemon, but this pokemon was clearly better trained than the others.
"Begin!"
"Venusaur vine whip, let's go!" Venusaur sent out to large vines and whipped them against Rhydon who cried out in pain unable to dodge in time. "Now wrapped Rhydon up!"
The vines maneuvered themselves around Rhydon's arms and wrapped themselves tightly against Rhydon's arms preventing escape. "Now use giga drain!"
As soon as Leaf said that the once dull greenish brown vines began to glow vibrant green as Venusaur sucked the energy out of Rhydon.
"Rhydon your opponent has trapped you, but the same could be said for your opponent as well. Use flamethrower!"
Rhydon opened his mouth and a steady stream of fire launched itself at Venusaur. "Ha! Did you think that no one else has countered like this before? Venusaur use light screen!"
"Saur!" The dual grass and poison type pokemon concentrated his energy and made a square screen of yellow light that blocked the brunt of the damage from flamethrower.
"Very well then, light screen may boost your special defense what about your physical defense then? Rhydon use earthquake."
"Venusaur jump using vine whip!" Another pair of vines came from the seed pokemons back and he smashed them against the group causing him to 'jump' into the air. "Now reel yourself in and use energy ball!"
To Ash's surprise once the seed pokemon had disconnected to the ground, he used to vines on Rhydon's arm to reel himself towards Rhydon and at the same to charge an energy ball.
As expected a small explosion of smoke occurred obscuring Ash's view along with the others. But despite this Ash already knew that Rhydon was down, he could feel it. It was one of the abilities he had thanks to the mysterious energy he could use, although it was hard to figure out to use it.
"Rhydon is unable to battle, please send out the next pokemon!"
"Return Rhydon." Placing the ultra ball next to Rhyhorn's ultra ball Ash took the last ultra ball out and into his hand.
"Come out Rhyperior!"
With a roar louder than even Rhydon had before the behemoth of a pokemon towered over Venusaur making all the spectators and Leaf gulp.
"Error...error...Pokemon unidentifiable." Leaf's dread only increased as she observed the larger pokemon that could only be an evolution of Rhydon. The difference was it was bulkier, heavier, two drill like horns, and orangish plates that covered its body and arm.
"Begin!" The referee said once again and for the last time for the battle between Ash and Leaf.
This time it was Ash who made the first move. "Rhyperior use rock polish."
The pokemon in question clasped his hands together as the plates on his body began to glow red.
'Rock polish? What type of move is that? I've never heard of it. But it's obviously boosting Rhyperior's stat in some way. Well two can play at that game!' "Venusaur use growth!"
A vibrant hue of green began to envelop Venusaur as he raised his attack and special attack in contrast to Rhyperior who just focused on raising his speed but as a result had higher results.
"Rhyperior use rock polish one more time." If even possible the red shine on Rhyperior's plate began to glow even brighter upon hearing his trainer's command.
"Venusaur use energy ball now!" Leaf ordered seeing the green shine on Venusaur stabilize, the tall tell sign of the technique finishing its goal, and to attack Rhyperior before it had the chance to finish rock polish' second level of effect.
Venusaur immediately gathered the energy in front of his mouth upon hearing Leaf's orders and shot the super effective attack towards Rhyperior.
However to Leaf's and Venusaur's surprise Rhyperior moved out of the way at Ash's orders, but that wasn't what surprised them. No, it was the fact that Rhyperior moved so fast it almost looked like a blur. Pretty impressive for a pokemon of his size.
"Close in on Venusaur's blind side and use ice punch." Rhyperior instantly obeyed Ash's commanded as it made semi circle to the lower left of Venusaur's right side with his hand filled with icy energy, ready to deliver.
"Oh no, Venusaur!? Quick use vine whip to jump!" With haste Venusaur did what Leaf said not intent on feeling the icy energy make contact with his body. And just made it barely as Rhyperior's right hand graze Venusaur's underside.
Ash in turn smirked. "You should have made Venusaur jumped elsewhere instead of just up. Now, you're defenseless. Rhyperior use flamethrower."
Opening his maw, the final evolution of Rhyhorn spewed a stream of flames at Venusaur's underside. The seed pokemon cried out in pain as he felt the scoring hear sear his underside.
Rhyperior moved out of the way as the 200 pound pokemon land with a thud on the ground.
"NO! Venusaur!" Leaf cried out as she saw her downed pokemon. "Please no!? Get up Venusaur you can do it! We've gone through too much to give fail here! PLEASE!"
Ash sighed. "Leaf, you put up a good fight, but the battle is over. Venusaur can no longer move." Raising Rhyperior's ultra ball up Ash prepared to return the pokemon back in his ball only for the computers to start beeping rapidly.
He had been immersed into the battle that he had forgotten why he even became the interim gym leader: to collect data.
He had set the sensors to pick a special kind of energy, but the energy constantly fluctuate so Ash had set it so that it would only react when the energy reached passed a certain point like now.
But it was also the cause of his downfall as that mere moment he was distracted, Venusaur had unleashed his newly and most powerful move, Frenzy Plant.
The green light covered roots wrapped around Rhyperior mercilessly and the pokemon cried out in pain.
"Venusaur..." Leaf said in awe as she watched her pokemon that was on the brink of defeat instantly even out the battle. 'Venusaur...I don't know what moves was but I knew you could do it!' "Now's your chance Venusaur! Use synthesis!"
The roots disappeared and then Venusaur began to shine as he absorb what little light there was to heal his health.
'Impossible!? Venusaur didn't need to rest after using the grass type equivalent of a hyper beam?' "Rhyperior don't give Venusaur a chance to recover, attack it with drill run!"
Rhyperior groaned as the two horns on his head began to spin and ran towards Venusaur, but it was obviously that Rhyperior was in a bad state the shine of his plate from rock polish gone, his speed far slower, and wincing in pain with every step he took.
But nonetheless Rhyperior steadily made his way towards the teal green, reptile like pokemon.
"Venusaur stop Rhyperior with razor leaf!" Twirling razor sharp leaves shot from the plant on Venusaur's back towards the dual ground and rock type pokemon.
"Stop drill run and burn them all down with flamethrower and while you're at burn down that plant Rhyperior!" Stopping in his tracks Rhyperior his flames back as he unleashed the stream of flames once more and burned all the leaves to crisp. But he didn't stop there as he aimed the stream of fire at Venusaur too.
"Venusaur use vine whip to dodge to either side!" Hearing his trainer's command the grass type use the vine whip to propel him to the left dodging the flamethrower.
"Rhyperior stop your flamethrower and launch a surf into the air!"
"What!?" Was what Leaf could only say as she watched in confusion as Rhyperior stopped his current attack as he launched an orb of water into the air that he summoned into his right hand.
"Now turn that liquid into mist with flamethrower!" Not a moment later the orb of water was bombarded by fiery flames, converting the liquid into steam that covered the whole battlefield making it impossible for either trainer to see their pokemon.
"Now Rhyperior use the vibrations on the ground to figure out Venusaur's location and use horn drill!"
"No! Venusaur whatever you do you have to do dodge it!" But Leaf's cries were for naught as Venusaur tried to dodge, but Rhyperior instantly honed in on him and landed his attack.
Although neither trainers could see the pokemon they both heard Venusaur's cry of pain.
"It's over you fought a good battle but-" Ash never had the chance to finish as he watched in surprise to see Venusaur still standing but barely, even a baby could tell Venusaur was on his last legs. "Impossible..."
"Venusaur now's your chance! Use petal dance!"
"Venus...SAUR!" Using the last of his energy Venusaur sent a barrage of pink petals crashing Rhyperior.
Unable to stand the successive critical and super damaging attacks Rhyperior lost his consciousness and collapsed onto his back.
"Rhyperior is unable to battle, the winner is Leaf of Pallet Town!"
"YES! We did it Venusaur! Yay! I knew it!" Leaf cheers erupted as she ran towards her Venusaur and hugged it. And despite the near collapsing state that he was in he sent out a vine to 'hug' her.
Ash returned Rhyperior into his ultra ball as he started at the celebrating duo below with a smile. It had been a long time since he ever cheered like that from pokemon battles.
Motioning one of the gym trainers to take the Rhyhorn evolution family to be healed, Ash began to walked away from the balcony and towards Leaf.
Seeing Ash walked towards them, Leaf and Venusaur quieted down when he stood just a few feet away from them. Ash head out a clenched hand and unclenched his fingers revealing the Earth Badge. "Here, its yours."
Leaf smiled as she picked up the badge up gingerly. "I finally got my last badge!" She shouted as she held it up high and cheered along with her Venusaur.
"Hmpf so what, remember I already have all ten of my badges." Gary who was silent until now said as he walked towards Leaf.
Leaf stuck her tongue out at him and blew raspberries.
"It's my turn to battle you now isn't, unless that was your real team and you need to heal them." Gary asked Ash when he finally made his way to the two with a small arrogant smirk™.
His suspicions turned out to be correct as Gary was challenging gym leader's real team. And judging by the two extra badges he had already defeated two. "No, that was the prepared pokemon for this battle my team is ready to fight."
"Is that so. I should warn you though that I am the best trainer from Pallet and stronger than Leaf here." Gary said as he pointed towards the girl next to them. Leaf wanted to object but she knew that Gary was stronger.
"You don't have to worry my real team is far stronger." Ash made his way up to the balcony as both trainers went to their respective position.
'I wonder if the same phenomenon will occur just it did with Leaf here.' Ash wondered as he barely registered the referee's word thinking about how Leaf's pokemon made the miracle happen. After all horn drill was known as a one hit KO move for reason. 'I should just focus on the battle here and think about the data later. It wouldn't do for me to lose so easily just because of a distraction if his pokemon can make the phenomenon happen too.'
Unclipping one of his luxury balls Ash unleashed the pokemon within it. "Come on out, Tyrant."
Gary's eyes widened at the large blue pokemon that stood 2 feet over the average species's height. Having no need to take out his pokedex thanks to his extensive studying, Gary knew that pokemon trained well for wears grew above their species height. 'This guy...he looks the same age as me yet his pokemon looks far stronger. Did he get his pokemon before his trainer's license or maybe someone else trained it for him? It doesn't matter I'll just have to win!' "It's your turn Kadabra!"
The yellow humanoid psi pokemon came out and glared at Tyrant. "Kadabra!"
"Begin!"
"Kadabra use psychic!"
"Use double kick now!"
Kadabra never stood a chance as Tyrant leapt towards the psychic pokemon and kicked square in the jaw, before twisting and nailing Kadabra with his tail and one final time with the other leg.
"Kadabra no!" Gary cried out as he Kadabra was knocked unconscious.
"Kadabra is unable to battle, challenger please send out your next pokemon."
Gary couldn't believe the blue nidoking's speed, he had never been so utterly crushed so quickly either. Not to mention fighting type moves were not as effective against psychic types, although Kadabra's weak defense may have played a role. Gritting his teeth Gary send out his next pokemon an Arcanine.
Once again the judge said. "Begin!"
"Arcanine no mercy quickly use extreme speed!" Arcanine immediately used the move as he disappeared into blur straight towards his opponent.
"Tyrant stand your ground and grabbed Arcanine." To both Arcanine and Gary's surprise Nidoking barely winced at the impact despite being pushed back several feet. "Now, use earthquake."
"No! Arcanine hurry up and get away!" But it was futile as Tyrant never let go of Arcanine as he jumped up, he brought Arcanine with him, when he crashed into the ground and unleashed earthquake, Arcanine was pushed to the ground immediately feeling the effects of the move and knocking him out.
From there on it was the term to describe the battle would be massacre. When Gary sent out his Scyther, Tyrant destroyed him with a well placed thunderbolt. Next was Magmar who was defeated by a horn drill followed by Blastoise who went down after two thunderbolts.
Gary's last pokemon was... "It's your turn Nidoking!"
Even though he shouted that out Gary knew he had lost. Utterly devastated by a single blue nidoking.
Gary's own Nidoking shifted uncomfortably under Ash's nidoking's scrutinizing gaze. It was obvious from that single moment, which one would be the alpha had they been in the wild.
"Nidoking use earthquake!"
With a roar Nidoking jumped up and crashed onto the ground and launched the miniature earthquake using shockwaves.
Ash who had been disappointed by Gary's pokemon's lack of increase of energy like Leaf's Venusaur only calmly order his pokemon unlike when he had gotten into the moment during his battle with Rhyperior against Leaf's Venusaur. "Counter with earth power."
Tyrant glowed as a brownish yellow line covered his body's outline. Bringing his fist into the air he brought it crashing down onto the ground canceling Gary's Nidoking's earthquake and making cracks towards Nidoking with yellow energy erupting from that crack.
As expected Nidoking was knocked out once again.
"Gary of Pallet no longer has any pokemon capable of battle, the winner is Ash, the Viridian Interim Gym Leader!"
"Return Tyrant." Ash couldn't help but let out a disappointed sigh as the battle, but suddenly clapping was heard throughout the room.
The source of the clapping was a man stood about half a foot taller than Ash and wore black shades, a light blue hawaiian styled shirt, white shorts, and on his neck was a red pokenav. "Wonderful!"
"I was following young Gary over to see his growth and evaluate him to see if he would worthy to take on the Battle Frontier challenge when I finish assembling the Frontier Brains. And to my surprise I see another candidate Leaf! But that isn't what really surprised me. No, what surprised was to see such skill for someone as one as you."
Walking out from the side, Scott walked almost directly under the balcony barely able to see Ash.
"Tell me Satoshi Ash would you like to join the Battle Frontier and become a Frontier Brain?"
Author's Note:
Damn, pokemon battles sure can take awhile to write! Even when I wanted to have one side overwhelmingly superior! Also I will try to make it more the games where pokemon could get KO'd in like 1 to 3 hits. But of course some pokemon can pull a heroic resolve to push past their limits but it will be part of the plot.
I think Dragonite should have a mega evolution! Well if he doesn't officially get one, then I'll probably make one for him in my fanfic hehehehe.
Also when pokemon say their names they will be in lower case. Also if you spot a mistake in how a pokemon responds such as charizard who doesn't with his name please notify me as I will probably make that mistake at some point. The name of the species will only be capitalized when it is referred to as the whole species and not just the one in front of the character or when a trainer does not nickname his pokemon and as such the species name will be the pokemon's name.
Oh and if you think Ash's thesis has something to do with Mega evolution you're right, but I'm taking in a slightly different route where mega stones aren't used as those are only made in the Kalos region, and Ash will eventually learn of Mega Evolution just in a different way. What Ash is aiming for is a permanent evolution that he won't succeed in for a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.
Also for the thesis it's not right, at least not all of it. Remember this is just the beginning so as Ash learns more and meets actual legendaries his thesis will continue to revised and revised.
