A gentle breeze mixed with the scent of roses filled the air. Feeling as if the breeze was carrying her away, she lay there under the relaxing shade of the tree, too comfortable to even sit up. She closed her eyes and smiled. There were times like these where the issues that burdened her life ceased to exist. Where the mind and soul seemed to enjoy an endless bliss. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. All too soon, the peaceful feeling shifted and she heard screams of agony surrounding her.
"Selene, Selene!" screamed a voice. She slowly opened her eyes, a wave of emotions overcoming her.
Dark laughter rang throughout the air, sending chills down her spine. "Selene, you must get out of here. NOW!" a familiar voice screamed, their voice filled with panic.
"Luna…? What's going on?! What happened?" Selene asked, taking in a visual of her surroundings. The once blue sky was now filled with smoke and ashes. Dozens of cries of pain could be heard within miles.
"Your highness, there is no time to talk. We must hurry and find Helios before it's too late!" Just as Selene was about to respond, they were hit with a blast of dark energy. Luna fell to the ground, badly injured. She was losing large amounts of blood that was going to be fatal if not cared for right away. She winced in pain as her clothes began to stain with blood.
"Luna, Luna! Stay with me! Oh please I beg of you, don't leave me now!" Selene screamed, running to Luna.
Luna winced again; she brought her hand up to Serenity's cheek. "I'll be okay, your highness... You must…escape...find Helios… hurry..." Luna said, using her last breath. Smiling, her hand fell and her eyes shut for the last time.
Another blast of energy came hurdling at them. Reacting quickly, Selene created a force field around them using her own energy, but there was not enough time to make the field strong enough so the dark energy broke through. A figure appeared from the dark energy. It laughed as it saw Selene fall to the ground.
As the dark figured approached her, she saw another figure stand in front of her, denying the other figure to come any closer to Selene. But by then, it was too late. She had already lost consciousness.
Cornflower blue orbs shot open. Her chest felt heavy. Breathing violently she sat up and looked around her, taking in her surroundings. She realized she was in the comfort of her own bed rather than her strange dream. Never had she had such a vivid dream. It was felt so realistic, as if it was something she actually experienced. She wondered about this dream. She wondered who this Luna person was, and why everything around them was in such a frantic chaos. It brought down her mood, to think if the world were to actually end up like that one day. So many questions ran through her mind it gave her a headache. Serena assumed she was probably just having a bad day. Desperately trying to put the thought aside, she looked at the clock and gasped. She looked out her window to see the sun was already rising.
"Whaaa?! 6:30 already? Dammit, I'm going to be late for class!" Serena jumped out of bed and hurried to get ready.
The door of the class immediately slammed open as Serena ran in, trying to catch her breath. She bowed to the teacher and went to find her seat. Midway through the teacher's lecture, Serena accidently fell asleep. Always being a heavy sleeper, she was still napping by the time the bell rang at the end of class. Suddenly, she felt a tap on her shoulder and her head shot up in alert.
"Hey sleeping beauty," Endymion shot Serena a devious smile that sent chills down her spine.
"Oh, it's you," she picked up her things and began to walk away.
"Hey Serenity, wait up!" Endymion followed her into the halls. He chuckled, "Seems like someone woke up on the wrong side of the b- err, desk."
"Funny, Endymion. And it's Serena," Serena smirked then stopped walking, "Don't you have something better to do? Like go to class?"
Now why are you treating him like that, Serena? It's obvious you like his attention.
Serena shook her head, trying to avoid her conscience. She didn't want to give in to Endymion's antics just yet. No, she was not going to seem like one of those easy catches. Yeah, she found him attractive. And yeah, maybe she thought he was the cutest guy she's seen at this school. But, he'd have to prove himself before she'd even show the slightest sign that she was returning her feelings. Hell to the no, she refused to be like all those stupid girls wasting their time by giving him a daily dose of their "undying love" for the class president. If he thought she would fawn over him just like that, he had another thing coming.
"Hey Odango head, are you even listening? I said I don't have class, it's lunch!" Endymion tilted his head so he was eye to eye with Serena.
Serena blushed at the sudden close contact, "Oh…right. Sorry, it's just that I've been having a lack of sleep lately. So, I haven't really able to focus during the day. Plus, I woke up late, so I didn't even have time to eat breakfast or even pack my lunch," She sighed in disappointment. If it was one thing she loved most, it was food.
"Oh! I see now. If you're hungry, why don't you eat lunch with me? I have a lot of food to share, and I'd be willing to share some with you," he smiled.
"No, I think I'll pass." Serena said. Just then, her stomach had made a small, but very noticeable growl. Endymion gave her a suspicious look and laughed.
"That's a sign. Come on, I'll show you where I love to eat when I just want some time to myself," he said as he grabbed Serena's hand and led her away.
"H-hey, okay. I guess just this once," Serena blushed again, even smiling a bit now because he wasn't looking.
As he led her throughout the hallways and to the upper levels of the school, every once and while people would notice him holding her hand and their eyes would widen. Endymion seemed to be oblivious to the attention they were gaining, while Serena on the other hand wanted to just crawl in a corner and die. She was only a freshman – she didn't want the attention Endymion always seemed to receive.
"Aaand, we're here", Endymion smiled.
Serena gasped at the sight, "Oh my goodness!"
He brought her to the planetarium of the school, just above the classroom where the Astronomy Club meetings were held on special occasions. Though, she never heard any of the members talk about the place before. She didn't even know a place like this within the school even existed.
Her eyes twinkled with amazement as she observed her surroundings. All around the ceiling were exact replicas of constellations in the sky. Each constellation brightly shining in the sky, almost looking as if they were dancing with brilliance. It was like dining under the night sky.
He chuckled, "You like what you see?"
"Yes, it's just like the planetarium back at your place! It's beautiful, Endymion," Serena smiled with happiness, always enjoying whatever chance she got to gaze at the stars at night.
"Just like you," Endymion turned towards her, making eye contact.
She looked into his eyes for a moment. His eyes glistened with interest and a hint of lust. The intensity in his stare was melting her to bits. As she looked back at him, she fought for dominance to show him that she wasn't going to fall to his will. But that proved to be more of a challenge than she thought.
Breaking the silence, she abruptly turned around. "U-um. Let's eat, shall we?"
Endymion opened his mouth to question her behavior, but he put it aside, not wanting to start another argument with her. After all, it was a step up with her agreeing to eat lunch with him.
For a while, there was an awkward silence between the two while they quietly ate "under the stars". Finally, Serena broke the silence.
"Thank you for sharing your food with me," she awkwardly commented as she took a bite out of the biscuit sandwich he gave to her earlier.
"Do I sense an apology coming on, Odango head?" Endymion grinned.
"Do I look like I'm apologizing? No. I just wanted to tell you I'm grateful for you offering me food," she took another bite, stuffing her face with what was left of the biscuit. "It was quite delicious. Tell your mom she is a fabulous cook."
"Actually, I cook my own food. My parents are never really home, so I had to learn to cook at a young age. I just told you my mother cooked it so you wouldn't get discouraged that I was the one to make our lunch," Endymion scratched his head in embarrassment.
"Baka, you're actually good at cooking. Trust me." Serena grabbed another biscuit sandwich to eat.
"I never expected to hear that from you. Thank you, Serenity"
Serena smiled as she continued eating. Endymion couldn't help but smile back as he watched her enjoy her meal. Something was just enchanting about being with her.
Serenity thought about the dream she had last night. No matter how much she wanted to forget about it, it just kept tugging at her mind. That's probably why she felt so uncoordinated today. She closed her eyes and sighed in frustration.
Endymion noticed her distress, "Is everything alright? It's not my food, right?"
Serena laughed, "No it's not that. Just something has been bothering me for the past week now. It's kind of related to what you told me last week."
He thought for a moment before responding, "Oh. You mean about Selene?"
"Yes. I still don't know if you were in your right mind, but it goes along with my dreams…" Serenity sighed.
"What were your dreams about? If you don't mind me asking," Endymion questioned, not wanting to pressure her too much.
She frowned, "Well, it's kinda hard to explain. They change every night, but it's always about the same person. This Selene, you say, is always sad. I see her eyes, they are filled with such torture, though she fights for her loved ones anyways." She paused, her emotions overcoming her. "And it's always against the same person, Eos. I don't know who she is, but every time I am about to see her face, I suddenly wake up. I'm starting to think I'm going crazy."
Endymion sat there quietly. He remembered that night. When she came down to him, this Selene person. He didn't know what to think, either. It scared him. She seemed honest enough not to be a bad person, but powerful enough to be a threat. He hesitated to respond, before making out the right words to say. He didn't want to worry her with what the moon goddess had told him just yet.
"It sounds like she is trying to tell you something. Don't let it stress you out too much, alright, Odango?"
Suddenly, the bell rang, marking the end of their lunch period. Serena sighed in disappointment.
Endymion flashed his flirtatious smile, "Sad you're going to be leaving me and this place? Mostly me though?"
"You are so conceited, I swear. To answer your question, yes. I'm sad to be leaving this dazzling place and your food, not you," Serena pouted.
"Don't worry, Odango. I can always make you lunch again. Maybe I'll bake you something for your birthday tomorrow," Endymion grinned.
"Wait, what. How did you know tomorrow is my birthday? I don't exactly remember telling you," Serena thought back, trying to see if she actually did tell him or not.
"No, you didn't. Mina told me, of course," Endymion shook his head.
"Damn, Mina, always opening that big mouth of hers," Serena pursed her lips. Mina never knew when to keep her mouth shut. She hated it when people made a big fuss about her birthday. Again, it was unwanted attention. Mina just never really learned how to keep her mouth shut.
"And what's so bad about that? No matter. The cat is out of the bag, and I'll make sure your birthday will be better than ever before," he said with determination in his eyes.
"Endymion, I swear..." Serena narrowed her eyes again.
"Swear what, hm?" He walked up to her and made eye contact, leaving only a few inches between them.
Startled with his sudden moves, she froze. She almost felt the urge to want to just kiss him. His eyes said so much, and they were so close to each other. She didn't know how to react, or even what to think. This was because she never really had any experience with guys, simply because she was never interested. So, instead she took the safe route and backed away.
Breaking off the intense moment, she headed towards the exit of the planetarium. "I'll see you around, thanks again for the lunch!"
"Any time, Serenity," he waved.
She stopped walking and turned around, "Oh, and Endymion?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you for listening to me. I needed to get that off my chest. See ya around!"
Endymion smiled. He could feel Serenity starting to warm up to him, he just could. He didn't really know how to explain it, but he just felt something different about her but just couldn't understand why. But one thing was for sure, he was immensely enjoying the chase she was giving him. It was only a matter of time before she would give up this silly game of theirs and realize how much she actually liked him. Or that's what he hoped.
