Title: Now and forever

pairings: Thor/Jane
timeline: Future au
With long strides Thor reached the medical unit of Asguard quickly. To the new King it still seemed to take longer than it should. On his journey home all Thor could think of was his daughter Jenna and the illness that had landed the four year old in the medical unit. Being a parent Thor discovered meant feeling helpless and powerless. Both were things he was not accustomed too.
Jane had invented a sort of interstellar paging device so she could reach Thor when he was offworld. It was still in the basic stage just enough to send a signal and a short message; five words or less. His children being half-Asguadian had rarely gotten sick. His wife's message of: Come home, Jenna ill had rocked Thor with a fear he hadn't felt since Jane had been infected by the Aether. With that fear a darker more sinister worry had begun to eat at Thor as he walked. He had enemies. To use an Earth expression it came the territory. He was a member of the Avengers and King of Asguard. Thor had tried to meld both worlds but it was not easy. Now the Demi-God couldn't help but wonder if combining those worlds had affected his family. He'd done everything in his power to protect them perhaps everything wasn't enough.
Entering the medical unit Thor found mother and daughter asleep. Jenna in the medical exam bed and Jane curled up in a chair on the right side. For a moment Thor could not move he just stared at the small form nestled under blankets with Asguardian technology lit up above Jenna. It flashed in a steady calming blue which Thor knew from his limited medical knowledge was a good sign. Blue meant stable, equal, constant. All things that should be reassuring to Thor and they were. It just took him a minute to get his bearings; to learn to breath again. Stepping forward Thor reached his wife and placed a kiss on Jane's left cheek. She stirred and opened her eyes straightening in the chair.
"Have you been here long?"Jane inquired as she stood.
"Just arrived."Thor responded. "How is she?"
Jane smiled and reached over to squeeze her husband's right hand. "Jenna's fine; just had a touch of the flu. She must've caught it when we were visiting Roswell last week. I guess I overreacted but her temperature spiked so rapidly, Thor and you know they've never been ill...I'm sorry I shouldn't have interrupted...and brought you home."
Thor turned and unlinked their hands. He lifted his to cup Jane's face. Leaning in Thor kissed his wife letting it last. When they finally broke apart Jane buried herself in her husband's embrace.
"I do not want you to ever apologize or second guess yourself when it comes to our children."Thor stated softly. "You are a wonderful mother. My family is everything to me, Jane. I will come across many galaxies, many realms whatever is necessary to come home when you need me. That I promise now and forever."
"I love you."Jane whispered.
Thor kissed his wife once more. "I love you too."
