I curled into a ball, exhausted from the days' events. Yawning, I only managed to lay out my sleeping bag before my heavy eyelids shut and I fell asleep.
It was as if only a minute passed when a loud commotion woke me up rudely. I sat up, my breath hitching, scanning the room wildly. Then, I realised it was a cannon. Thirteen dead. Eleven left to play... I smiled a little sadly then went back to sleep.
When I woke up again, it was because of the heat. The sun outside had baked this room into a heating furnace. It wasn't a good sign and I'd rather go out hunting and hiding than to be burnt. Metaphorically speaking only. I rolled up my sleeping bag, gulped down some water and cheese, slung the backpack on my shoulders and ran to the door of the prison. Kicking it open, I stepped out to a sweltering day. It was warm, but not as stifling as the prison.
Once again I was forced to make a tough decision. Should I run to the Cornucopia, where the sun isn't shining so strongly on, or should I go towards the unknown? Granted, I was already in the unknown, but is it necessary? The Cornucopia is full of weapons, food, survival kits and... Careers. Crap. One of them spotted me and pointed in my general direction. Too soon, before I could think, several figures rose from afar and ran towards me.
Animal instincts kicked in and I bolted away from them, my eyes stinging from my sweat. They will catch up with me, so I have to find somewhere to hide. A safe house. Some... bat cave. But nowhere is safe. Around me were just the grey concrete grounds and the walls. I changed direction and started sprinting to my Northeast direction, where I saw some objects in boxes lying around. Praying that my pursuers are still behind me, I picked up one of those objects. With frenzied fingers, I opened the box and lo and behold- they were silver parachutes! A closer look revealed that there was nothing in them. NOTHING! Is this some kind of cruel joke?
I was angry, but managed to keep calm and rational. Guessing that the other boxes contained the same things, I packed them in my bag. They could be used, somehow. I broke into a run again, fearing that my opponents are not far behind.
Just as I was about to dash forward, I saw movement in front of me. A grey- how surprising the colour is!- gate was slowly lowering from somewhere. A crazy idea came to me. "If I get there in time, and the gate lowers, the Careers wouldn't be able to chase me!" It was fight or flight, and since I was grossly outnumbered, only the latter is safer.
I waited till the gate was lowered halfway, keeping a sharp ear for footsteps, and then ran nimbly. Behind the gate was a whole new environment. A stark contrast. Different colours sprouted from it.
My face broke into a slight smile. At least this, this environment is slightly more like home.
