Part 11: In which Mycroft is forced to extremities.

Mycroft pressed a finger to his temple. "Call the court," he instructed. "Place the trial this afternoon. Have them offer Sherlock, and the other a reprieve if they solve the case of the death of the American ambassador."

His assistant nodded.

The car sidled up besides John Watson, who cast it a glance, grimaced, and slid in.

"I am sure you'll be pleased to know," began Mycroft, "that Sherlock will be free to go by tomorrow morning."

John stared at him. "Right. Good. You're going to make a complete mockery of the entire court system. Oh, wait, you're the government, you're entitled."

Mycroft ignored him. "Moriarty will be released too," he finished.

John gaped at him. "But-"

"And together they will solve a crime and do their civic duty. So it all evens out, one might say."

John slumped a bit in his seat and eyed Mycroft's assistant. They pulled up in front of the courtroom in tense silence.
