Blackcat: Hi everybody! Long time no see!
Amu: Are you really re-writing the whole story?
Ikuto: That's what she says.
Blackcat: It is VERY true. This story was so terribly written 3-4 years ago that I am so embarrassed and surprised it got 269 reviews. That's insane.
Ikuto: It was very terribly written.
Amu: Ikuto be nice.
Blackcat: ….Thanks Ikuto.
Ikuto: *shrugs* just trying to help.
Amu: You're a big help.
Ikuto: *smirks* anything for my Amu.
Blackcat: ….Anyways, Thank you all my beautiful lovely reviewers for staying with this story even though it's terrible and has been put on hiatus for 2 years now. And thank you to my lovely official beta Mrs. Flamer!
Amu: You have a beta now? Ikuto she's gone official.
Ikuto: *rolls eyes* oh snap.
Blackcat: *stare* on with the new improved story.
My fingers tapped impatiently on the desk in front of me as silent murmurs met my ears in bunches; an excited atmosphere hanging about. It had been a whole 45 minutes and still the teacher had YET to reveal to us who we were to be mentored by. It was getting to be very irritating and everyone around me was beginning to feel it as well. Before I realized what had happened I had slammed my fists down onto the hollow wood and had made the person sitting next to me jump.
I smiled apologetically. "Ahaha, sorry Tadase-kun. I'm a little impatient after waiting 45 minutes." He put his hands up in reassurance with the same-old princely smile I adored about him. "Don't worry Amu-chan, I understand." I smiled once more before turning to stare off into the distance; letting my mind wander.
4 years of intense advanced medical school classes and it all came down to this. This next doctor that I would be the MD (Medical Student) for would be my last test before graduating from medical school. I would have earned my PHD by the age of 23. I smiled to myself as I pictured myself running my own office with my own medical staff. It was a happy thought. And all I had to do to graduate was to study this doctor for the next 9 weeks like the other 2 doctors I had been with and I would be done.
My eyes travelled to Tadase who looked just as bored as I did. I wondered if I could start an office with Tadase. I felt my cheeks heat as I looked away. There was no way he would want to start something like that with me of all people. I had been good friends with him throughout middle school and he had never shown any romantic interest. I let out a small sigh as my red cheeks quickly paled to their natural color. I had gotten over the fact that I would probably never be with him romantically during my sophomore year of high school so there was no use wasting my thoughts on such things. But that didn't mean I still couldn't lightly crush.
A small smile spread across my lips at my own stupid joke. I was secretly a dimwit after all. When a sudden shift in movements drew my attention to the right side of the large open room I felt a gentle hand rest on my left shoulder. I turned to look at Tadase with a questioning expression when I noticed his lit-up face.
"Amu-chan! Takimoto-sensei is back with the assignments!"
My own face lit up with a bright smile as I whipped my head to see the salt and peppered hair color of Takimoto-sensei, his somewhat muscular form walking across the floor resting at the bottom of our amphitheatre like room, pinning up pieces of paper along his carpeted wall opposite side of us.
I watched intently as he made his way along the wall, stopping each time to draw pins out of his hand and post them at the top two corners of each paper he placed up. I could feel my heart pounding in my ears at the excitement. I just couldn't wait to see who it was I was placed with! By the time he had reached the end of the wall we were all on the edge of our seats, anxiously waiting for Takimoto-sensei to give us the go before we could lift our now slightly numb bottoms up and out to find who we were to spend the next 9 whole weeks with; partner and doctor wise.
My fingers furiously tapped along the hard dark auburn wood surface formally known as Tadase's and my desk as I watched him pin up the last paper. "C'mon, c'mon." I head Tadase's light chuckle besides me, my attention being brought to him almost immediately. "You're impatient as always Amu-chan." I smiled cheekily at him. "Sorry Tadase-kun. I'm anxious to be back out there again. This is my life and I enjoy it so much." His eyes took on a gentle shade as he lifted his right hand to place on my shoulder once more.
"You're going to be a great doctor Amu-chan." I blushed at the gesture and compliment and was about to reply back before Takimoto-sensei's voice caught my immediate attention. "Class." Within seconds the room was silent, a surreal calm taking over. We were all adults here, we could keep it in; most of the time.
"I know you are all very excited and anxious to see which doctor you have been selected to practice with for the next 9 weeks starting next Monday. But before you do know, I would like to say that I am very happy and pleased with this year's MD class and look forward to seeing you all graduate when you return within the next 2 months." With that we were told to stand. And as if we were all one, we simultaneously bowed and thanked Takimoto-sensei for his time teaching us.
"You are all dismissed!" A grin spread across my face as I turned towards Tadase, his face holding the same expression. "Ready Tadase-kun?" He nodded, raising his right hand to reveal cross fingers. I nodded doing the same as we turned to walk out of our section. We were both hoping that we would be with the same doctor. We didn't have a very big class, only 40 people, and each doctor was to be put with 2 MD's. We got along just great, and we usually studied together so it made it a lot more fun and easier if one of us was having any trouble. We truly were best friends. And that's all we would most likely ever be.
I blinked the thoughts out of my head as my foot hit the gray pavement at the bottom of the stairs I had been walking down, moving towards the H section for mine and Tadase's last name. Everyone else around us were bustling towards their own sections, excitement buzzing in the air. I looked back at Tadase as we weaved are way through the little crowd that had formed. "C'mon Tadase-kun! Don't get left behind!" He smiled at me as I teased him playfully before turning my head, my eyes meeting the bright white paper pinned on the carpet wall in front of me. I stopped, looking down the list of H last names.
"Hibi...Higurashi…Hikari...Hikasu…Himisu…Hinamori!" I blinked and smiled lightly as I looked to the right to find my first name, confirming it was indeed me, and then looking further to see who I would be my teacher for the next 9 weeks.
"Tadase-kun, I'm with Doctor Tsukiyomi Ikuto. Who are you with?" I turned my gaze to him as he stood next to me before my eyes went back on the paper; scrolling down to find his name. When I found it, I didn't like what I had found next to it. Doctor Himichi Yuii. I blinked as I felt my heart drop, my eyes quickly meeting his. We weren't placed with each other. He gave a weak smile as I sighed. "It's alright Amu-chan. It's only a little over a month and a half." I bit my lip as my gaze dropped before I looked at him once more.
"I know but it's just….I thought we would be together. Especially since our last names both start with an H!" He sighed as well, opening his mouth to say something else before Takimoto-sensei's voice erupted through the crowd. "Information for your doctors is sitting on my desk." I looked at Tadase as he gave a look of defeat before nodding his head in the direction of Takimoto-sensei's desk where a few people were already gathering.
"Let's go see what part of Japan we're both in." He smiled, causing me to grin at his hopeful gesture. "Alright." Moving through the crowd once more, we arrived at Takimoto-sensei's desk, vanilla folders with our doctor's names written on top in black pen spread across it. My eyes immediately fell on the name Himichi Yuii before my hand shot out to grab the folder, dodging another anxious hand. I looked up, now holding the vanilla folder within my grasp, before my eyes met with Tadase's wondering ones. I quickly noticed he held a folder as well and quickly grabbing his hand, I pulled him out of the crowding mass that had quickly accumulated.
"Ah Amu-chan!" I turned to face him, smiling as I held his folder out to him. "Here you go Tadase-kun!" He smiled back as he held out the folder within his grasp. "Haha, here Amu-chan, I got yours for you as well." We quickly switched folders, anxious to see what part of the country we were placed in. We were best friends; we looked out for each other. Quickly I read down, looking for Dr. Tsukiyomi Ikuto's office address. My eyes met with a Tokyo, Japan, before I shot my head up to see Tadase still reading. "I'm all the way in Tokyo, where are you?" He must be a big doctor to be all the way in Tokyo and have connections here in Osaka. Tadase's eyes met mine with a disappointed gaze and I knew we were not in the same city. "Nagoya."
I dropped my head slightly, looking to the ground as I let out a sigh. "Oh." I can't believe this…we…weren't even in the same city. "I-It's okay Amu-chan! It isn't as far as it could be and perhaps we could meet half-way!" My eyes shot to his in a smile. "Really?" He nodded his head with a hopeful smile combating mine. "Of course Amu-chan. You're my best friend. I couldn't go that long without seeing you!" My cheeks flushed at his compliment before I quickly hugged him. "Thank you so much Tadase-kun! I'm going to miss you so much until then." He wrapped his arms around me and I nearly melted.
It felt so right to be with him; to be held in his soft, gentle arms. But that was when I realized that it felt so right to be with him…as best friends. With this new revelation planting inside my mind I slowly pulled back. "As will I Amu-chan. When does your flight leave tomorrow?" I pulled back completely, the thought now coming to my mind. "Oh! Let me check!" I opened my folder, looking for my flight information. We had paid ahead for our flights, not knowing where we were going. The school had organized everything so that we could leave the next day once we had found our doctor. My things were already packed and sitting on my bedroom floor at my apartment, waiting to be picked up and brought to the airport.
"I leave…" I quickly flipped to the next paper to spot the time and airport. "Ah! 7 AM sharp tomorrow morning at the international Osaka airport." I quickly looked up at him to find his gaze on mine once more. "12:30 PM at the international Osaka airport." My eyes went down once more at yet another disappointing blow. Damn it all. My bad luck was catching up to me once more. I felt a gentle hand slowly life my chin, my eyes making contact with Tadase's bright pink ones filled with a defying determination.
"Don't you dare speak of bad luck Amu-chan. Not once during these 9 weeks. Alright?" I pursued my lips, down –casting once more, my cheeks lightly flushing from the small, kind gesture. "Okay…" His hand releasing my chin before his pinky came into view. "Pinkie promise?" I rolled my eyes before smiling and wrapping my pinkie around his. "Pinkie promise." We both laughed lightly before I gave him a gentle shove. "C'mon Tadase-kun, let's go out to eat for dinner before we part for 3 whole stinking weeks!" He lost his footing for a second before bumping back into me. We both laughed at the fun we were having before Tadase spoke once more.
"Where should we go tonight Amu-chan?" I put my finger to my mouth, thinking. "Hmm…that's a good question." Tadase turned towards me in a knowing glance. "Do you want to go to your favorite Ramen shop next to your apartment?" I grinned excitedly. "Yeah! Let's do that!" We walked towards the doors before I spotted Takimoto-sensei speaking to a very pretty girl with long jet-black hair that flowed a little bit past her waist. I stopped, subconsciously staring at her magnificence. Her eyes were a bright blue, and she was dressed in a slender sleeveless black dress that fit her figure well. Her shoes consisted of black short heels that made her tall height change by only an inch. Her red lips moving in a gentle way as she spoke and I really couldn't help it as I stared. I couldn't help but be in awe by the way she held herself, the vanilla folder pressed against her chest in a polite manner.
"Amu-chan, are you staring at Moon-san again? Why don't you just go over and talk to her? She's like the nicest person in this entire class!" I jumped and blushed sheepishly at Tadase. "I have!" Tadase raised his left eye-brow at me. I rubbed my right arm with a down casted glance. "Okay...dropping my things and having her volunteer to help me doesn't count… But she is such an amazing person! I shouldn't bother her!" He elbowed me with a gentle glare."Amu-chan you can never bother anyone. You are just as kind as she is, she's just a little bit older." I turned my gaze back to the beautiful black-haired woman continuing to speak with Takimoto-sensei.
It was true. She was only 2 years older than me at the prime age of 26. Her name was Silver Moon and she had been my highly-respected role model for the past 4 years. She seemed so perfect, kind-hearted, and such a hard and determined worker that I pushed myself to work just as hard as she did. Even when she was sick she would show up to class in no different fashion then the others; continuing to study and Ace any test or essay she did.
"I wonder who she is with." I blinked looking back to Tadase as I wished to know the answer to my own question. He shrugged lightly. "Why don't you go ask her Amu-chan?" I shook my head, waving my hand in front of my face. "No no, it's okay. Let's not bother her. C'mon, let's go get eat before I start burping up invisible food I haven't eaten yet." I grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the classroom exit as he laughed at my stupid digestive system. "Alright alright Amu-chan haha."
I released his hand as we walked through the dark-brown double doors and out to the parking lot to my car.
Blackcat: So! What do you all think?! I really like it. We've got a TOTALLY different set of characters (in personality speaking and story background wise).
Amu: Wow. You know this sounds a cupcake of a lot better than the original.
Ikuto: Besides that I'm not in this chapter, it sounds completely opposite of the first version.
Blackcat: Did she just use cupcake as an adjective..?
Amu: Hopefully she'll make your character a cupcake of a lot better Ikuto!
Blackcat: She said it again…
Ikuto: Please. There's nothing better than the original.
Amu: *stares* I can think of a lot of things better than you.
Blackcat: Are they just ignoring me?
Ikuto: Amu that's mean.
Amu: *shruggs* whatever hurts your feelings ill say it again. Cupcakes are better than you.
Blackcat: Ugh… I'll see you guys in the next chapter. Thanks again Mrs. Flamer!
Ikuto: That's true. Cupcakes on me are better.
Amu: …bye!
Ikuto: What? Don't you all agree?
