Welcome back to my story! Hope you like it so far!
Shizuo suddenly smelled something. He would know that smell anywhere. The flea… why is he at Raira Academy? Shizuo looked in his rearview mirror and saw the black Corvette that had pulled up behind him. He glared a bit and watched as a smaller-framed teenage girl stepped out of the car. She wore a long familiar brown coat that reached her knees and her hair was black and short-cut. She looked exactly like Izaya. Shizuo glared a little. So this was Izaya's daughter that Shinra had told him about.
Takada stepped out of the car and looked over at the girl and smiled a bit. She looked over at him and nodded her head back, neither of them knowing who the other was.
…..
Kinaki was terrified beyond belief. This was only her second time at a public school in her life. She turned back to her father, who gave her a reassuring nod. She sighed and started walking into the school to the classroom on her schedule.
She got into the classroom and saw the teacher at his desk. She looked at his nameplate; Ryugamine, Mikado. Interesting last name. It made her giggle a little before she finally walked inside and towards the teacher. "Mr. Ryugamine?" she asked timidly. The man turned to her and smiled a little.
"You must be the new student," he said as the rest of the class sat down at their seats. The teacher looked at his clipboard and his eyebrows rose. "Kinaki Orihara?" he asked with a surprised voice. Kinaki heard the class behind her start murmuring and she blushed a little. Mr. Ryugamine turned her around to face the class and she stared at all of them. She saw the boy from outside and cocked her head to the side at him. He was staring at her with shock and… was that hatred? "Why don't you introduce yourself to the class?" Kinaki cleared her throat and stood straight.
"My name is Kinaki Orihara. I'm sixteen years old, from Shinjuku, and this is my second time in a public school." The class was staring at her, all of them seeming anxious for something to happen. The teacher patted her shoulder and pointed towards a seat that was right next to the boy.
"If you want to, you can take a seat next to Mr. Heiwajima," he said. Kinaki's eyes widened as she stared at the boy and as his last name ran through her head. He was still looking at her with intensity. She glared at him a bit and walked over to the seat next to him and sat down. The class could all feel the tension that was ruminating off of the two.
Mikado watched the two closely during the class period. It had been about 20 years since there was both an Orihara and a Heiwajima in the school. In the same class, even. He smirked slyly to himself. This would surely be an interesting year.
…..
Kinaki walked around the crowded lunchroom, searching for a place to sit. So far, everyone had seemed afraid of her. She didn't even know why, though. She saw an empty place and sat down, eating in silence.
A group of people came up to her before long, one of them knocking her lunch tray onto the floor. She glared at them viciously. A girl about her age smirked down at her. "You're in our spot," she said. Kinaki rolled her eyes.
"I don't see your name written on it anywhere," she shot back. The group circled her around her seat and she grew uncomfortable. If there was anything she didn't like, it was being crowded. Her eye began twitching.
"You probably think you're so great, don't you, Orihara?" the girl said with an evil smile. "Is it just because your precious daddy is all-powerful and you can do what you want?" Kinaki's fists began to clench. 'Just ignore them.'
"The rumors about your dad say that he's a total psycho," one of the guys said. "Did it rub off on you at all?" That did it.
Kinaki pushed her chair back and swung her fist at the guy who said it, catching him in the nose. "Don't you ever say shit about my father if you don't even know him! You have no right to talk about fake all-power if you're the ones doing it yourselves! If this was how you were raised then it's your father or mother who must be insane!" The group stared at her in shock. This girl was nothing like the rumors said. They said that the Oriharas were cool, calm, and collected in a fight. This girl just shouted with logic.
Kinaki huffed and turned, sitting back down. As she expected, the group walked away, talking trash about her to seem tougher. 'Fake little pricks. All of them.'
A few minutes later, Kinaki felt another presence behind her and she sighed. "Am I really not allowed to sit down in peace?" she asked, exasperated. She turned and saw him. The Heiwajima boy, and her eyes widened somewhat. He was staring down at her with his normal intensity. "Can I help you?" she asked.
"You're the Orihara girl right?" the boy asked. Kinaki rolled her eyes.
"I have a name, you know," she said. Heiwajima scoffed. Now, it may have been just Kinaki's imagination, but she felt like the entire lunchroom had silenced as she stared at this boy.
"I've heard about you," Heiwajima said. "I've heard about your father. You know who I am, right?" Kinaki chuckled a bit.
"You're Takada Heiwajima," she said with a smile. "I actually know quite a bit about you."
"How would you know anything about me?"
"I did a background check on you. You have half the strength of your father. You're seventeen years old and you go to Raira Academy because of a friend of your father's favor." She took a breath and thought for a moment. "You hate the Orihara name with a die-hard passion. Your favorite food is Mongolian rice pasta with sauce. You have the sweet tooth of a nine-year-old. Your favorite color is navy blue. You have-,"
"Shut up!" Takada shouted loudly. Kinaki smirked and stood up in front of him, causing him to tense up.
"What's wrong, Taka-Chan?" she asked in a sickly sweet voice. Takada gritted his teeth.
"Don't call me that, you little parasite," he said in a dangerous tone. Kinaki suddenly leaned up and kissed his cheek. She then giggled, turned, and ran in the other direction. Takada stood for a moment, stunned, but came to his senses and began chasing the laughing girl.
Kinaki ran from the school, Takada close on her tail. She ran through the streets of Ikebukuro before running into what felt like a brick wall. She fell down onto her back and looked up to see something that made her blood run cold. What stood before her was not a what, but a who; blonde hair, a bartender suit, and blue sunglasses on a very tall person. Shizuo Heiwajima.
Shizuo stared down at Kinaki, who was quivering in genuine fear. She looked behind her and saw that Takada, upon seeing his father, had stopped in his tracks. Kinaki wasn't sure what to do; run or try to talk her way out of this, but she wasn't sure if it would work on the man in front of her. This had gone totally wrong. She was completely cornered. Shizuo pushed his glasses up.
"You're the Orihara girl, aren't you?" Kinaki stayed silent, but nodded timidly. She stood slowly, shaking and backed away a little. Shizuo looked up at Takada, who was still glaring. "You trying to catch a flea, son?" The boy nodded once and shot a menacing glare at Kinaki, who was still frozen in fear. Shizuo looked back down at the girl and took a step towards her. "So are you Izaya's daughter or what?" Kinaki's hands wouldn't stop shaking, but she nodded again.
"I-I d-didn't m-mean to bump into you, s-sir," she said silently. Shizuo was staring hard at her. For some reason, he didn't feel very angry. He was annoyed about the fact that his son wasn't at school, but he wasn't angry. He suddenly saw something fly past his face and looked over to see something that did anger him.
Izaya walked slowly up towards where his daughter was standing. He saw how terrified she was. He saw the boy behind her and how angry he seemed. Izaya turned his back on Shizuo and touched Kinaki's shoulders softly. "Kinaki," he said softly, making her look up at him. "Come on. Let's go home, okay?" Kinaki nodded once more, but continued to shake. Izaya turned around and faced Shizuo. "Let me go this once, Shizu-Chan. This isn't a good environment for my daughter." Shizuo held back his anger and put his hands in his pockets.
"Just this once, flea," he growled before gesturing for his son to follow him. They walked away and Izaya turned back to Kinaki.
"Are you okay?" he asked. She looked up at him.
"Daddy, I-I'm sorry," she said. "I didn't m-mean for this to happen." Izaya smiled a little and grabbed Kinaki's hand and walked with her until they reached his black Corvette. The two climbed into the car and Izaya drove towards his apartment building.
"Kinaki," Izaya said as the two got out of the car, "what exactly were you doing to make Shizu-Chan's son so mad?"
"I was just teasing him a little, Daddy," Kinaki replied. "I didn't really think about it." Izaya frowned and took her inside and to the living room. She sat down on the couch and stared at the floor. "I wasn't expecting Shizuo."
"Kinaki, he could've killed you," Izaya said. "Both of them, together, could have killed you." He sat next to Kinaki and grabbed her hand gently. "You remember what happened the last time you were cornered, don't you?" Kinaki's eyes widened and she squeezed her father's hand.
(Flashback)
Kinaki was walking around the school yard, looking for the door to her classroom. This was so typical! First day and she's already lost…
She turned a corner and saw a group of teenagers, all a few years older than her. She watched as they were trading something of a white color in a small plastic bag for money. She was frozen to the spot, unable to move as one of the boys looked over in her direction. He looked at his friends and they all stared at her.
Kinaki turned and began to run as fast as her legs could carry her. The boys all began to chase her. They saw her reaching into her purse as she ran and they moved faster. One of them finally caught up to her and grabbed her hood, pulling her back and onto the ground. They all circled her and pinned her to the wall. One of them grabbed her phone and threw it as hard as he could.
"You saw," one of them said. "You saw what was going on, right?" Kinaki shook her head and the boy grabbed her chin. "Don't lie." She started to cry and she nodded.
"I-I saw, but I won't tell anyone! I swear! Please let me go!" she pleaded with them. The boy sighed and, with a quick movement and a blank expression, he punched her in the stomach. She cried out and bent over.
"We can't risk you blabbing on us," he said in a growl. He looked at his friends and they held her back up. She shook in utter terror and struggled. The boy grabbed her by the throat again and soon, all Kinaki could comprehend was pain.
(End of Flashback)
Kinaki leaned on her father's shoulder, still shaking as tears ran down her cheeks. Izaya put his arm around her and pet her hair in an effort to comfort her. "It'll be okay, Kinaki," he said in a softer tone. "Do you want me to make new arrangements?" Kinaki sat up.
"No," she said. "I want to go to school and get an education. I'm just a bit nervous. If I can do it," she looked up at Izaya, "I can become an informant like you." Izaya looked at the floor.
"Why would you want to do that?" he asked. "It's not the only job there is…"
"I want to be just like you, Daddy," Kinaki said, smiling a little. "I can work with you and help you with jobs." Izaya sighed and looked down. If there was something he never wanted for his daughter, it was to be an informant like him. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure," Izaya said, smiling. Kinaki looked at him seriously.
"Why do you like humans so much? They're greedy and filthy and fake. They have no consciousness for anyone else and they think that they're the center of the world. What's so great about them?" Izaya's eyebrows raised at the disgusted tone of Kinaki's voice.
"Well," he said after a moment of thought, "they have so much potential, no matter who it is. I love their reactions when they find that what they thought what they had was control was really nothing but ego. Why do you ask?" Kinaki looked her father in the eye and sighed.
"Because I hate humans."
