The sap from the gash was still dripping down the bark proving how fresh it was. John gave an almost
inaudible gasp, telling me he had finally noticed the obstruction. We stood there for in complete
silence for a moment, unsure of what to do. "Well it appears we are not as alone as we thought we
were." I said, startling John behind me. I turned to face him, "Someone must be following us." I
continued, but John looked uncertain. "So… does that mean you believe me?" Irritation flashed red
hot down my spine, even more than the last time. How many times must I repeat myself to him? "No,
John." I spoke slowly. "Of course I don't. It's probably some foolish minority who finds it amusing to
cut pictures into trees and stalk two grown men." John gaped back at me, " You can't be serious!
That's Slenderman's sign, Sherlock! His mark! See." He stretched past me, his fingers tracing the
circle. "This is the head. And this.." His fingers went to the gashes that made the X. "This means 'no
face'. The man with no face. Slenderman!" I sighed with exasperation. "John stop being absurd!
You're obviously trying to make connections that aren't even there!" Anger flashed across the shorter
mans face, "No Sherlock. It's YOU whose being absurd!" Any reply I had was cut short by a sharp
shove from John. His assault managed to take me slightly by surprise, causing me to stumble back
into the tree. As I tried to regain my balance John shoved me again, harder this time. Reeling back I
tried to stay upright, but instead toppled over, landing hard and striking my head on a tree root. I lay
there, dazed as my vision shifted and my hearing was filled with ringing. Trying to sit up my vision
shifted and I watched a wobbling john approach me with something very tall following him closely…
"John!" I gasped, struggling to get up. "Behind you!" As he spun around I fell back again, my head
throbbing. Looking up from where I lay, I tried to locate John again. When I finally spotted him, he
was backed against a nearby tree, the one with the mark, cowering in fear. There, towering over him
stood a man, nearly seven feet tall, face and hands whiter than pure snow, completely faceless. A
sharp ache in my temple caused my eyes to screw shut, but when I opened them again tentacles had
sprouted from the tall figures back. One grasped each of John's limbs, with one around his neck as
well. I could see him thrashing helplessly, trying to escape the creatures grasp. I lifted my hand, trying
to reach him. I needed to help… I must!
