For the rest of the train ride, Lilith and her friends talked about their summers. Abigail went to the United States with her mum. Lilith stayed silent. She had spent her summer in the orphanage. She was also to busy thinking about what her friends would do when they found out who she is. She was woken from her thoughts when Abigail said, "Come on Lilith! We're here." Lilith stood up, grabbing her bag. She walked inside with her friends, laughing with them. She pretended that there was nothing wrong. Lilith managed to convince herself that her friends would love her no matter what. She was not her parents. She would not go down the same path her parents did. Abigail pulled her aside and whispered, "Is everything alright?" Lilith nodded and said, "Yes, of course it is Abbey. Why wouldn't it be?" Lilith grinned. It scared Lilith to know how easy it was for her to lie to her close friends. It only got easier by the day and her friends never questioned it. They never pushed her for answers about her parents. This year they would though. Lilith knew that their professors would mention that Voldemort's real name was Tom Riddle. Her friends, and most of her classmates, would make the connection between their last names.
That evening passed quickly for Lilith. She talked with her friends, ate entirely too much of the delicious food, and enjoyed the Sorting. Lilith recognized a few of the first years from the orphanage, but one stuck out to her the most. She was a young girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. Lilith remembered her from the orphanage. She hadn't been there long, maybe a couple of weeks. Her parents died mysteriously and someone from the Ministry was trying to locate family. The girl was Mary Paul. Lilith didn't know much about her. Lilith didn't bother getting close to any of the other orphans, especially the ones that wouldn't be there long. Mcgongall reached her name, calling out, "Paul, Mary." Mary sat on the stool and McGongall put the Sorting Hat on her head. The hat was silent for a few moments before shouting, "Slytherin!" Mary Paul stood up, skipping over to the table where the Slytherins were cheering and clapping. For a brief moment, Mary turned towards Lilith and smiled a slightly wicked smile. Lilith knew that Mary had a vendetta for Lilith and she didn't know why. Lilith quickly shook it off when she heard McGongall start her Welcome Back speech. McGongall went over the usual rules; no magic in the corridors, the forest was completely off limits, and the like. Lilith grinned when McGongall said, "Welcome students, new and old, let's enjoy the feast." McGongall clapped her hands and food the tables filled with all sorts of food. Lilith pilled her plate full with chicken, bread, and vegetables. She ate it all. Next was the dessert, Lilith's favorite part. She usually didn't get dessert at the Orphanage and if she did, it usually wasn't very good. Lilith put a large slice of chocolate cake onto her plate, along with several cookies and other pastries. Lilith ate it all. She knew she would have a stomach ache later but Lilith loved all of the food. She always got enough to eat at the orphanage but she never had so many options or had the ability to take as much as she wanted. Lilith took advantage of it whenever she was at Hogwarts.
When dinner was over, she walked back to the common room with her friends. They stayed up for another couple of hours before heading to bed. That night, Lilith didn't sleep much. She tossed and turned. When she fell asleep, she slept restlessly. Nightmares haunted her throughout the night. She dreamt of being locked in a room with lots of other people, green light flashing all around her. The people surrounding her fell to the ground, until she was the last one. She dreamt of a young man looking straight at her. He was quite handsome and probably about 16. He had brown hair and blue eyes. He leaned forward giving her and a sly grin and said, "You will become like me. You will see my daughter." Lilith woke up in a cold sweat and panting. She looked around seeing no one else awake. Lilith stood up and walked to a window. She peaked outside and saw the moon was still high in the sky. She sighed and crawled back into her bed. Lilith lied awake for the rest of the night, wishing she could sleep. Sleep didn't come.
