"D'you mind if I sit here, Ally Dawson?" a shy voice asks me while I doodle absentmindedly on my new notebook.
"Go ahead...," I reply timidly, wondering who would even call me by my full name here at this school. Unless it's...
I look up to confirm my suspicions and sure enough, Austin Moon is glancing at me expectantly as he sets his bag down and sits on the stool next to me.
"Um, you know, you can call me-"
"That looks so cool," he interrupts me, reaching over to slide my notebook over to himself and study my random sketch.
"Thanks I-"
"Do you play?" he asks excitedly. Huh, so interrupting is a thing with this guy. He nods his head towards my drawing, an electric guitar with the amp wires wrapping into music notes.
"I play acoustic but I'm not really an electric person…" I trail off, sensing the end of our discussion. I resort to looking around the chemistry room as students start to file in loudly, catching up with their friends and talking about summer break. Which is why I'm so confused, why is Austin Moon sitting next to me when he could be talking with his "group"?
"Ugh, Al, Honors Chemistry too? Do you have to be in all my classes?" I hear Mona enter the room and sigh dramatically, shaking her hand through her already permed hair. A few kids laugh around us and I duck my head at the attention I'm getting.
"Oh my gosh, Austin! Why are you putting yourself through the torture of sitting next to Al? Just cause she's my sister doesn't mean you have to do that!" she giggles.
"Come sit by my friends, I know Ashley Drenner totally has her eyes on you," she lowers her voice so only he and I can hear. Defeatedly, he gathers his things and starts walking away, mouthing "sorry".
No problem, Austin Moon. I knew it was too good to be true anyway.
