"You are going to do something for me" Hekate said.
"Why should I?" Everett was wiping tears from his face.
"Because this is my Shadowrealm. It seems that the imp, Thenneth, has possessed Scathach's body. He will try to kill me using the Shadow's skills. You must kill him"
"How?" Everett asked, not liking the idea of someone possessing Scatty's body.
"You shall stab her- I mean him- through the heart. If you do that, then I shall let you free"
Everett nodded. Scathach had died fleeing, but he still didn't want her to be possessed.
"Oh, and one more thing, if she tries to convince you that it is her, don't believe her, Thenneth is trying to take control of you, too"
And with that, she dragged Everett out, towards the battlefields.
Scathach and Joan walked down the old, red dust road toward the prison. They had been walking for hours and it was eleven-thirty. Scathach put her hand in her jean pocket, where the gem was being held. All she needed to do was exchange this for Everett. She sighed. Joan was probably right, she shouldn't have trusted Thenneth. But she was desperate. And Scathach didn't like being desperate.
She squinted across the old battlefield to try to see the prison on the other side. She saw, even from about a kilometre away that Hekate was standing on the edge of the other side of the battlefield, with Everett next to her. He was holding a long sword in his left hand. Scathach started to jog towards the two.
"Wait Scatty, it could be a trick!" Joan warned, as she too started jogging.
"So?" Scathach shrugged it off. There was always the possibility that it was a trap.
The two of them started to sprint toward the fields. Scathach made it to the duo first. She drew the gem from her pocket.
"Hekate" She snarled "Let him go"
"Oh" Hekate laughed "This is rich! No. I don't think I will, because I don't think that he wants to go with you"
"You're crazy" Scathach said. She turned to Everett and looked at him, quizitively. He shook his head and looked at her. He gave her the same look that her father always gave her. She looked away quickly.
"What have you done to him?" She demanded.
"Nothing. The question is what have YOU done to him?" Hekate laughed.
"I-I'll swap! I'll swap Everett for the Gem. The Gem of the Humani!" Scatty stuttered.
"No!" Everett yelled at her. Scathach shrank back. She couldn't believe it. Everett wanted to stay with Hekate. She lowered her sword.
"Why?" She whispered
"Because I don't believe you! You are not Scathach… you are a monster!" He sneered. Ant with that, he lunged at her, sword raised.
Scathach blocked his strike and stepped backward, trying to reason with him, while Joan stood against Hekate.
Scathach was annoyed "What do you mean, a monster?" She asked
"A life-destroying, soul-sucking creature" Everett sneered.
"And why would you think that?" She asked
"Don't try to fool me, Thenneth. I know it is you" Scathach suddenly understood. Hekate must have told Everett that she was being possessed or something. Smart. She started to attack him, being careful not to injure him.
"Prove it" She challenged, knowing that she would need to show him the truth rather than deny his accusations.
"Okay" He said, as they continued to fight, "what is my aura colour and scent?" He tested
"Orange in colour, smells of ginger" Scathach answered easily as she blocked his sword.
"Do I have any siblings?"
"A brother, he died at six. His name was Gaberial"
Everett refused to believe her just yet. He had one more question.
"Okay. Answer me this. After we stole back the gem, what did I say to you?" He stared into hereyes.
Scathach stared back "It's wasn't too late" She whispered. Everett dropped his sword and embraced Scathach as if he let go, he would lose her again.
Hekate, who had been in silent battle with Joan, pushed her to the ground and grabbed Scathach by the neck. Everett knocked her to the ground, where she started to laugh hysterically.
"Have you gone mad?" Everett asked "It's over. Three against one"
"Ah, yes, but it is midnight" She said simply.
Scathach's smile dropped from her face, and so did Joan's. Everett stared in confusion. Scathach felt the gem in her pocket. She had failed. She had not given the Gem to Hekate. She was now the prisoner of-
"Well, well, well" Thenneth appeared out of nowhere "I do believe you owe me something"
