Two days had gone by since the Arrow had visited Edward Andrews, but so far the bug had not recorded anything useful. Oliver and Diggle were in the basement at Verdant, discussing the next possible steps.
"Oliver, we haven't gotten anywhere, Andrews is still at large and if we don't do something, you'll soon be in prison and what happens then?"
Oliver buried his head in his hands. "Damn it, Diggle, I know, but there has to be another way. I won't put her in that kind of danger."
Felicity opened the door and caught the tail end of Oliver's sentence, noticing the worry in his voice. "Put who in what kind of danger?"
Oliver's head shot up and Diggle looked up at her as well. "We're just discussing our new plan." The CEO motioned for him to stop, but Diggle ignored him and kept talking. "The bug was useless and Oliver has to go to court, the only way out would be for you to talk to your stepfather again."
Felicity slowly came down the stairs. Her palms were getting damp and her heart started to beat faster. The thought of herself alone with her stepfather in his apartment frightened her, but she tried not to let it show.
Oliver watched her, her body language had changed since Diggle had mentioned Edward Andrews. "Felicity, don't worry, that's not an option", he tried to reassure her, looking deep into her eyes once she had joined them.
"Yes, it is, we won't get him to talk any other way", she replied, her voice firm. Fear rose inside her at the thought of meeting with her stepfather again, but it was the only chance of finding evidence against him. Oliver had received a call from Officer Lance that the trial was scheduled in two weeks' time and things did not look good.
Oliver ran a hand through his hair. "No, I won't let that happen, I already put you in danger once by leading him right to you."
Felicity didn't let him continue. "Oliver, I have to get over my fear and I have to make sure that you won't go to prison."
"It's not certain that I'll go to prison", he answered tensely.
"Maybe, but do you think it would be good for QC if the CEO gets a parole sentence? What would your investors say? What if they pull out, do you want to hand the company over to Isabel?" Felicity was angry, torn between fear for the man she loved and panic at the thought of having to meet Edward Andrews again.
"That's not going to happen, believe me", Oliver said, putting his arm around her. Diggle stepped beside them. "What if it does, Oliver? Felicity is right, this trial can not only put you in prison, it can cost you your company. I don't like the idea of sending Felicity to that SOB again any more than you do, but we have no choice."
Felicity cupped Oliver's face in her hands and looked into his eyes. "Oliver, please, I don't want to lose you."
"Okay." As soon as he had agreed, an unpleasant foreboding started to spread through his whole body.
Diggle patted his shoulder, he know that this agreement had cost Oliver a lot. Felicity was everything to him; his salvation, his soul, the one person he trusted blindly. If anything happened to her, Oliver would never forgive himself.
"We need to have a perfect plan for this, we can't allow anything to go wrong. Felicity, you will be wired for sound and make sure that Andrews stays in the living room. I can keep a close watch on him that way. You are not going to leave that room under any circumstances and don't stand in front of the window, so that I can shoot him if he tries anything." Oliver closed his eyes for a second at that thought. "Dig, you'll be in the car in front of the building and record everything." Oliver's voice was cold as ice, he had to suppress his emotions. "We'll do it tonight."
Felicity and Diggle nodded. The bodyguard immediately went to work checking their equipment.
Oliver wrapped his arms around Felicity. "I'll make sure you don't have to stay a moment longer than absolutely necessary." The blonde nodded. "Oliver, I love you and I trust you with my life." He kissed her and whispered "I love you, too."
The sun had gone down and darkness had fallen over Starling City. The Arrow stood on the roof of a high-rise, looking at the building across the street. A man was sitting on a couch, clad in jeans and a checkered shirt, a can of beer in his hand. He stood up and seemed to walk to the front door. Oliver held his breath and touched his headset.
"Felicity, he's coming to the door. Stay calm, I'm right here with you." He heard her take a deep breath. "Everything's good", was all she answered, before the door was opened. Adrenaline flooded Oliver's body as he heard Edward's voice.
Felicity's heart began to hammer as the door opened and Edward regarded her with his dark, dangerous eyes. "Well, look at that, heaven has sent me a little angel trying to keep her love out of prison." He stepped aside to let her enter. Her breathing quickened, she could feel his eyes boring into her back. Keep calm, Smoak, she reminded herself. Oliver seemed to feel her unrest, because she heard his voice in her ear. "Everything's okay, Diggle and I are right here with you. Make him step in front of the window."
Edward noticed his stepdaughter relaxing slightly; something was going on. He stopped inside the door to the living room. "Sit down, my little Lissy, and tell me… to what do I owe this honor?" The IT girl remained standing and replied calmly. "I want you to drop the charges; if not I will press charges myself."
A gruesome smile appeared on his face. "I can't imagine why you could press charges against me. I didn't do anything."
Desperation rose inside Felicity. "You know exactly why. You harassed me like in the past; you threatened me. "
Andrews started to laugh. "Do you have any evidence for your accusations? I think you just want to save your rich friend, that's why you invent those vicious little lies."
Tears flooded Felicity's eyes; she turned her back on Edward and stared out of the window. Once again she heard Oliver's voice in her ear. "Step away from the window and stay calm." She closed her eyes for a moment, gathering her courage. This had to end right now. She opened her jacket and took it off, then turned around and walked over to him. "Edward, I know you still want me and I think I can offer you so much more now…"
"Felicity, don't do that!" Her heart broke as she heard the pleading, desperate tone in Oliver's voice.
Edward put his arm around her and planted a kiss on her neck. His closeness disgusted her. "I have never stopped wanting you, my little Lis. Why do you think I followed you here? All those years I waited to finally touch you again, to feel you." He started to unbutton her blouse. Felicity felt as if she had stepped outside her body. Oliver's voice echoed in her ear. "Felicity, defend yourself" Damn it, fight him!"
Oliver was powerless to do anything, Felicity was right in front of the window and in Andrews' arms, a clear shot was impossible, even for the usually unerringly accurate Arrow. Oliver felt a tide of rage well up inside him; he knew it had been a mistake sending her to him.
"DAMN IT, DO IT FOR ME!" he yelled in her ear. Felicity woke as if from a trance and started to defend herself. Edward Andrews hit her hard in the face and dragged her over to the couch. "You have always been mine!" he yelled at her. "NO!" she yelled back.
Oliver's heart broke into a thousand pieces. Felicity's cry pierced his soul. Andrews had hit her; no one raised a hand against the woman he loved. Oliver's blood boiled; as soon as he had a clear shot, he hit Andrews with two arrows, one in the back and one in the thigh. The man let go of Felicity and collapsed to the ground with a cry of pain. At the same moment the door was kicked in and Officer Lance and Diggle rushed in together with a number of cops.
Lance handcuffed the injured man. "Take him out of here. Oh and call an ambulance, looks like he could do with one." Then he looked over at the IT girl, who hand scrunched herself into a corner. "Are you alright?"
Diggle had draped his jacket around Felicity and regarded her face with a worried frown; the bruise on her cheek was turning from red to blue, her lip was split and bleeding. "I'm okay", she replied. "Is that evidence enough to let Oliver go?"
Lance nodded. "I will see to it that Andrews drops the charges and he will go back to prison, you can be sure about that. You were lucky that Mr. Diggle had a hunch and decided to follow you, otherwise things could have gotten a lot worse."
Felicity nodded silently, not raising her head.
Oliver pushed his way through the cops. He had changed on the roof and stowed the bag with his leather outfit in Diggle's car. "Felicity…" Breathlessly he kneeled beside her, gently touching her face. Diggle stood up to give them a moment to themselves. Oliver felt guilty when Felicity raised her head and he saw her bruised cheek and bloody lip. He wrapped his arms around her. "I'm so sorry, please forgive me."
Felicity pulled back a little. "It's not your fault, it's mine. I'm fine, Oliver. It was my decision, I faced my fear and I fought back." Her eyes filled with tears, but Oliver saw that they were tears of relief and not of fear.
Diggle cleared his throat and the two looked up at him. "Officer Lance said we can take Felicity home. It's enough when she comes in tomorrow to make her statement."
"Good", Oliver answered. He took Felicity's hand and helped her get up. Wrapping his arm tightly around her, he led her out of the apartment.
