Cadmus had taught him many things in his short life. However, surviving a tsunami had not been one of them and this had served to only frustrate and panic Superboy as he had watched with wide eyes as the colossal wave had snapped down its powerful jaw onto his three friends.
With just seconds to go before his own meeting with the watery beast, Conner felt there was little he could do apart from slamming a giant fist down into the sand below, to offer some support against the incoming impact. Taking a deep breath, the Kryptonian swivelled his head around in an attempt to catch sight of M'gann before he too was taken. However, it was with a sense of dismay, that he realised that she was no where to be found. Unfortunately, he had no time to dwell on the fact as in the next moment, he was heavily assaulted by an enormously strong force from behind him, ripping him free from his sandy defense.
As he was tossed and turned and chucked about all over the place, Conner couldn't help but feel sorry for his favourite black tee shirt that he so often placed into the washing machine. Perhaps, he could hand wash it from now on if this is what it was forced to endure each time it was cleaned.
Swirling around in the dark waters, Superboy felt it had been a very long time since he had been forced to submerge, and the tightness within his chest only served to support this theory. However, disorientated and being collided with by both small and large objects at all sides, he had little hope but to pray for the water to have mercy on him and allow him just a moment above the surface to breathe.
Thankfully, his wish was granted and, as he sucked air into his lungs with gasping breaths, his eyes frantically surveyed the surface of the water, searching for any signs of his companions. He vaguely became aware of the fact that he was definitely no longer still on the beach, but instead had been pushed away from the sea and past the base of the Cave.
Spluttering against the raging current, Conner flapped his arms and legs around wildly in the hope that his strength would be adequate to keep him afloat. He felt himself being carried along briskly, with little to no chance of swimming in any direction other than the one that he was already being forced along.
Suddenly, Superboy's journey was cut short as he was brought to a painful, but abrupt stop as the clone felt himself smash into something sturdy. Gripping the object tightly, but careful not to smash or snap it, Conner took a moment to glance down at what appeared to be the remains of the metallic fencing that had previously outlined the rear of the beach entrance.
His relief was cut short, however, by a desperate cry coming from his left side. Narrowing his eyes, the clone could make out the small form of Robin, clinging frantically onto the trunk of a tree. The acrobat's arms were wrapped as far as they could go around the thick plant and his neck and head were the only other parts of his body visible to the larger teen. From his location, Conner watched with fright as the younger boy's grip slipped time and time again, and listened as he yelled a choked sob for help to anyone nearby.
Having felt that he had wasted enough time already, Conner planted his feet onto the uppermost part of the section of fence that he was occupying, gripping another section of the metal in order to retain his balance. Feeling that he finally had a decent amount of leverage, Superboy kicked off of the fence with a roar, leaping upwards and away from the water towards the patch of trees that had enclosed the Boy Wonder.
His decent was anything but smooth. Conner came crashing down approximately three trees away from his target, sending another large ripples of water outwards. Moreover, his sudden landing had startled Dick, almost causing him to lose his hold on the once object that was currently preventing him from drowning.
The smaller teen's shivering face seemed to light up when he recognised the other teen, and this strengthened Superboy's resolve to keep moving, despite his growing weariness. With another tremendous effort, Conner once again launched himself towards his target, arms open wide as he approached the sturdy tree, careful to avoid the body of his friend, watching in apprehension.
Success!
His arms now securely around the trunk, Superboy finally felt some of his initial panic dwindle. He could do this! There would be at least one of his friends that he wouldn't fail. Not this time. However, his hopeful thoughts were cut off abruptly by the voice of Dick, hoarse from crying out for help.
"Conner, we have to get out of here! The water's going to pull this tree down any minute now!" He exclaimed and as Conner took a closer look at the tree in question, he realised that the hacker was right. Already his sensitive ears could pick up the creaking of the trunk as it strained dangerously against the tidal torrent.
Desperately, the clone searched the water for another escape method. Upon discovering that there were no miracles in sight, Superboy turned to the young acrobat, who's pale face was swiveling around in an attempt to find a way out of the mess they were in.
"I could try and throw you" Robin's head snapped back round to look at him, first in confusion and then eyes narrowed, in thought. "I can gain some leverage on the tree and throw you to the fence I came from".
Dick's eyes searched the surface to locate the fence and he hesitated momentarily before regarding his larger friend once more. Shaking his head, the acrobat sighed shakily.
"No, too risky. I could easily be impaled on the spike and I definitely would not feel asterous about leaving you here to escape on your own" he explained, taking a second to shoot a weak grin at the other boy. Readjusting his trembling grip on the tree trunk, knuckles white from the strain, the younger of the two continued to search for a solution.
"I guess we'll just have to wa-"
The words were cut off suddenly as both males gave a startled yelp as there tree; their one saving grace, had finally met its match and was torn from the ground. Unprepared for the abrupt change in velocity, Robin was immediately thrown into the water and Superboy followed soon after when the tree was smashed into by something unseen.
When he resurfaced, there was no sign of his small friend and Conner once again felt the cold fingers of dread pinch the corners of his heart. The panic hit him harder than any wave could have and this time, it was panic for not only the others, but himself too.
