She should have see this coming in all honesty. Things had been going to well. Since Lucy had changed classes she had started making friend, hell, even Gillian was being accepted by the other "mommies" in the class. Her and Cal's relationship had flourished and he was spending more time at her place, they were even tossing around the idea of finding a completely new place.

The adoption was a week away from going through and things seemed to be unable to get better. Gillian was happier than she had ever been and Cal was eating it up. He loved seeing her that way. he loved watching her be a mother to Lucy an even stop up and mother Emily since Zoe was in St. Louis.

But as she sat in her office, the clock on her computer screen telling her it was nearly time to go home, she realized it had been very quiet for a little too long.

Lucy's backpack was discarded on the couch against the wall and Cal hadn't been in to sneak her away and claim her for an impromptu adventure he came up with on a fly with his own bored mind. He really did just turn into a big kid when he got the chance. She pushed her seat back from her desk and began her own search.

The Lightman Group had become Lucy's personal playground and she was too loved by the employees for them to ignore her when she was around so normally Gillian didn't have to worry too much about her getting in the way. There were many times where Loker should have been working but she would find Lucy on his lap and he would be teaching her something or other about their work.

Every room she stopped in, she was sure to ask if they had seen the dark haired little girl, but all of them reported that they hadn't for at least a half hour.

She walked by Cal's office for the second time, noticing that he was actually in there this time, going through a stack of book on his desk.

"Have you see Lucy?" she asked, still not to the point that she was actually worried, but more to the point where she was realizing the Lightman Group may not be as child proof as she had once thought it was.

But Lucy knew better than to leave the offices so she couldn't have been far.

Cal gave her a furrowed look. That was enough of an answer to send Gillian a little closer to panicking. "She's never run off before," Gillian mumbled to herself as she tried to gather her thoughts on where Lucy could be. She was forcing herself to stay calm, but it was a lot easier said than done. If Emily wasn't there, Ria and Eli hadn't seen her and she wasn't with Cal... Gillian felt the true panic coming on.

"Mommy!"

The little voice cut through the glass walls of the offices and several people were in the hall in an instant to check on their boss's child who seemed to be in a mad panic. Cal and Gillian were running toward the sound in a heartbeat. They both sprinted down the hallway and Gillian's heart stopped when she heard Loker.

"Get the hell away from her!"

Gillian nearly tripped over Lucy as she turned the corner at the same time as Gill going opposite directions. How she managed to pick her up instead do collide into her, Gillian really wasn't sure. The small child wrapped her arms and legs around her body, her heart beating so wildly Gillian could real it against her own chest.

Cal was already marching past him to the large man in his early thirties standing in the lobby of their office building. Some place where Lucy shouldn't have been playing in the first place. Even without seeing the expression on Cal's face, Gillian knew he was on the offence. He had his head tilted slightly to the right and his chin sticking out as he marched straight up to the man.

The man on the other hand looked dangerous enough that Gillian wanted to call Cal back. This much younger man was nearly twice the size of Cal and he was leering at her and her little girl as though he completely didn't notice Cal and Loker between them.

"Oi! What's your bloody problem?" Cal snapped at the man as Gillian held her terrified daughter in such a way she couldn't turn around.

"Are you Gillian Foster?" he snapped, ignoring Cal's question. He eyes were still bearing into her and she couldn't decide if she should answer.

"Oi! I'm asking the questions," Cal shouted this time. Lucy's little arms and legs tightened around Gillian, but the man finally seemed to look down at Cal who looked ready to kill someone. "What is going on here?"

Ria stepped up, seeming so shocked she was trying to wrap her mind around what was happening. "This is Mr. Agos. I didn't even know Lucy was behind us and when he turned around and saw her she screamed."

But Lucy shook her head against Gillian's shoulder. "He's one of the bad people," she whispered in her mother's ear.

Gillian tried to pull the girl off her enough to read her expression, but Lucy wouldn't let go. That and her voice made it very clear how completely terrified Lucy was. The normally gentle eyes of Gillian Foster looked straight hateful as she looked at Mr. Agos, keeping plenty of distance between herself and the man.

Cal kept himself as the first thing the man would have to go through in order to get to either one of his girls. He was very glad Emily went ahead and went home, one last person he had to worry about keeping this man away from.

"You want to tell me why a five year old girl (a/n: I noticed I flopped between 5 and 6 for Lucy's age. We're sticking with 5 from now on, well until she has a birthday) is so terrified of you?" Cal nearly shouted, doing nothing for Lucy's terrified state.

The younger man let a sinister grin come over his expression. "What's the matter, Lulu? You miss daddy?"

The realization hit Gillian and she barely had long enough to digest it before Cal lunged forward and nailed the man in the side of the jaw. Lucy was suddenly hysterical and Ria was yanking Cal back as Loker bravely got between Cal and Mr. Agos.

Gillian grabbed Cal's hand as Heidi picked up the phone and dialed the police. She was sure that Mr. Agos would be gone by the time they arrived, but Reynolds may make it in time. Cal already had his phone out, calling him as Lucy's death grip only seemed to get tighter.

"No-no-no-no!" she cried over and over again into her mother's shoulder. "He's gunna take me away and it hurts, Mommy."

The little girl was moments away from a full fledge anxiety attack and she felt terrible for physically prying the little girl's arms off her neck. It was important Lucy could look her in the eye when she spoke, but the moment Gillian saw her little girl in a state that she hadn't been in month she felt her own heart break a little.

"Lucy," she said gently, a lump growing in her throat as she pushed hair out of her daughter's face so nothing with disrupting their eye contact, "I will always keep you safe. He is not taking you away from me, no one will ever take you away. Do you understand, baby?"

Dark curls bounced as she nodded her head. "But who will keep you safe, Mommy?"

Cal caught Gillian's eye and he had a painfully sober expression as he filled Reynolds in on what happened.

"Cal promised he would keep us all safe. You, me and Emily. You have nothing to worry about," Gillian assured her.

But something left her unnerved about Mr. Agos. He was bold enough to come to their workplace and scope the place, what else would he be bold enough to do?

Cal grabbed his car keys off the desk and took Lucy into his arms. "Go get your stuff, we're going to go to my place. You can get some clothes for the both of you, but I'm coming with you."

Gillian wanted to tell him he was over reacting, but in truth she was a little scared herself. She knew the charges against Agos and she was curious to know why the man was on the streets. It was a solid case, his parental rights had even been revoked. Yet he was on the streets and seemed to be a threat.

"Don't scare her," Gillian hissed, her own fear clouding her voice as she rubbed circles on her daughter's back in her lover's arms.

"I'm sorry," he said with a softer tone this time. "But please listen."

Lucy almost didn't let go of her mother the entire night. She wasn't interested in drawing with Emily or playing Go-Fish with Cal, she just needed to be in her mother's arms. Even in her sleep, she clung desperately to her stuff kitty and her mother.

Cal had no argument when Gillian tucked her in between them in his bed.

"Cal," Gillian whispered as she crawled into bed.

He shushed her gently, finding her hand as Lucy instinctively cuddled to her. "Everything will be alright, love."

She bit her lip as she buried her nose in her daughter's hair. It always scared her when Cal had to become the optimist.

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you guys enjoyed this little clip!
