Author note: Richard isn't going to like this at all, but torturing characters is what writers are for. And let's face it, no-one actually LIKES any OCs, so they make the perfect characters to torment!
Warning: Sex, pseudo-science, Henry being emotional.
Pair: William Zimmerman and Henry Foss.
Disclaimer: I do not own Sanctuary, because if I did the ending would be more of an ending, rather than just stopping like it did. Stupid cancellations...
"Really nice place you've got here." Henry whistled, impressed. Richard chuckled weakly.
"Thanks. Emily and I worked hard for it. Finished paying off the mortgage last year." he had watched Henry walk, apparently aimlessly, around the house and garden, and was now following as Henry dawdled up the sidewalk in front of the house. "Look, I don't want to be rude or anything, but shouldn't we be looking for Emily?"
Henry glanced up at him, momentarily surprised. He'd been scanning for tracks, marks and scents to say which way she went, and had – quite simply – forgotten that Richard had no idea what he was doing. The recent rain had washed away some of the evidence he could have followed, so it wasn't as simple as tracking Magnus down between her office or the library.
"Think of my process as like a duck swimming – all the effort is under the water. Even if it looks like I'm not doing much, I am working on it." the technician reassured him.
"You have no idea, do you?" Richard sounded desperate. Henry rolled his eyes.
"Look, I work differently to Will. I'm a computer technician; this kind of thing isn't my strong point. I can't tell you what happened back when she was taken." Richard's face crumpled. Henry rested a hand on his shoulder. "But what I can do is take you to wherever Emily went when she left the house, and from there hopefully to where she is now. With any luck at all, she can tell us what happened to her when we find her."
"You mean that?" Richard looked up, hopefully. "You think she's alright?"
"I don't see why she wouldn't be." Henry shrugged. "And as long as I can find what I need to track her, then it should take too long. But you gotta trust me, man. I don't work the same way Will does, and it might get a little freaky."
"No problem. Just find my wife." Richard insisted. "Will warned me not to freak out on you, so I can handle all the weird shit you need me to, if it'll help my Emily."
"Great." Henry grinned. "That means I can do this." he tapped into his lupine senses properly, knowing full well that his eyes were glowing luminous. He didn't need Richard to yelp like a startled pup and fall over his own feet, but it was pretty funny. He realised faintly that whenever he used his wolf-based abilities, he thought more like the wolf as well. He wouldn't normally have made the connection between Richard and a puppy, but it was the first comparison that came to mind when using his full abilities. He'd noticed this before – during the mating season, he thought of Will as his mate, a sexual and emotional ballast, but when it was over and his human side was more dominant, he thought of Will as his lover, his partner, and his friend. It was a distinction the wolf was incapable of making.
"Y-your eyes! What the hell is going on here? What are you?" Henry kept walking, moving with more purpose now he could use his full senses to direct him.
"I told you before, some people are just different. Like with Will and his observational skills, or Laura's increased sensitivity." Will's talents were psychological, but Laura's were probably from some mixed heritage – Henry would have put good money on there being some kind of Abnormal in her family tree. Given time and motivation, he could have probably found out exactly what Laura Greene was descended from.
"So… what is your thing?" Richard was still following, albeit anxiously.
"Properly, I can be classified as a Hyper Accelerated Protean life form." Henry shot a grin over his shoulder. "I like the term HAP. My senses are more acute than those of the average person, and I'm marginally physically stronger too." Richard looked more relaxed. No need to tell him about the transformations. "Just remember, Will knows about this, and he's cool with it. This is just a part of the strange circumstances around our relationship we mentioned."
"So, you are human, at least." He joked. Henry smirked.
"Well... unless you listen to my boss." Not entirely false – Magnus was pretty much the only one who really put any emphasis on his Abnormality. Everyone else kind of just took it as it came. Will treated him as entirely human unless Henry indicated otherwise, purely to make him feel more comfortable. It was just one of the many reasons why Henry loved him.
