"Alright, time for book club," Mom says. "Is everyone ready?" "Eww, aren't you all too old to have a mommy and me club?" an unfamiliar high-pitched voice remarks. "EXCUSE ME? AREN'T YOU TOO OLD TO-" Cassidy screams. "CASSIDY ANN!" Mrs. Sloane-Kinkaid screams back. "You heard me, you are all a big group of babies." the voice replies. Everybody in the room turns to look at the rude stranger standing by my brother.

"Who is this?" I ask worried about Jess. "This is," Darcy nervously starts. "-The hottest person you will ever meet, Caylie. I'm one of Darcy's CLOSEST friends at Dartmouth." the girl says winking. "That's nice," Becca says her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Really who are you? And by the way honey, you're not pretty. You're fake. Plastic." Darcy sighs. "Becca, she's mostly telling the truth. Caylie is someone I met at Dartmouth this semester. She had no where to go for spring break so I invited her to come here." "I'm sure we will all treat Caylie with kindness," my mom says with her evil-witch-eye-of-a-mother look. "Of course," we all groan. "Let's start book club now. I'm sorry if things are different here than what you are used to Caylie, but we have no tolerance for rudeness and what you said was unnecessary. You too Becca." Mom says. "I'm sorry Mrs. Hawthorne, It won't happen again." Caylie says in her sweet innocent voice. "No promises. Not with her." says Becca glaring at the girl clinging to Darcy's arm. "Darcy, why don't we go upstairs to your room to unpack?" Caylie coos."uh," Darcy looks uncomfortable. "Yes, good idea. Caylie. The guestroom is to the right of Emma's room, the purple one. You can go and settle down there." Mr. Hawthorne says. "Darcy, stay here please. We haven't seen you in a while." Caylie's sweet smile falters a bit but she trots upstairs anyway.

"OK, why did you bring her here without telling us? You have never done anything like this before. It was quite a shock for your mother and me seeing her when we met up at Kimbell's." I guess my perfect brother is no longer perfect. "She made me Dad," Darcy whispers. "She was going to tell Jess that I cheated on her if she didn't come. It's probably because I didn't go to her stupid birthday party. I already had plans with Ben, my roomate, to see the Red Sox's latest game. They were great seats and I love baseball!" "That was a good game," says Ryan. "Yeah, little buddy. It was." Darcy smiles a bit. "But I love Jess. I couldn't have her think that I cheated on her with someone as mean as Caylie. You do love me, don't you Jess?" Darcy is almost crying now. "Jess?"

Everyone in the room is looking frantically at each other. This was sure a problem.

"Oh-no!" Megan wails. "Jess isn't here! She must have ran outside!" "Now what do we do?" I ask. "Girls go get her and explain everything." Mrs. Wong orders. "Phoebe will give us the books and reading assignments." Darcy nods. "Pease," he mouths. "Don't worry, we'll figure it out." says my mom comforting my brother. "Shh, we'll figure it out."

Us daughters quickly put on our shoes and head out in search of Jess. We almost trip over her as the front door opens. Well almost is a lie. Cassidy actually trips. "Jeez Jess," she jokes. "I know I can be a pain but do you REALLY need to make me land on my face?" There is no response from Jess. She just stares at the grass in front of her. "Why don't we go to the barn?" Sophie suggests. "It's more private than where a certain blonde brat can't spy on us." We all look up at the house and see a flash of blonde hair in the window. "Great idea," everyone agrees. "I'll text Mrs. Delaney," I say.

We are going to the barn to talk

OK, knock some sense into our girl

Caylie is back downstairs so when you come back in be careful on what you say

I read the text to everybody and we are off to Half Moon Farm. Once we are settled in the hayloft Jess bursts out "Does he not love me?" Megan sighs. "Far from it darling, that boyfriends of yours has that girl over to protect you." "What? How is Darcy protecting me when we are dating and he brings another girl home to meet his family?" We quickly fill her in. "Why would this girl, Caylie, act like this?" Jess asks sniffling. "I don't understand." "She did it because she is a snotty person who has no soul and feeds off of other people's happiness!" Cassidy screams. Everybody turns and stares at her. "What? It's the truth. She has no right to be mean like this." "So what do we do?" Asks Jess. We all look at Cassidy.

"What?" she asks. "Come on, prankster!" I say. "What do we do?" "I promised my mom and Stanley that I would stop with my pranks last year after Gigi and Edouard's wedding almost got canceled." Cassidy says guiltily looking over at Sophie. "We have been over this, I'm not mad at anyone over what happened last year." Sophie sighs. "That was a great prank. I don't think your mom would mind another given the circumstances right now. I'm in Cassidy." "So am I!" yells Becca. "Let's finish her like a cheesecake!" Megan screams a line from one of her favorite movies. "Let's do this," I say. "Fine by me," says Jess with a smirk. "Awesome! Lets get to planning this ASAP. We should start at our sleepover at the Wong's tonight." Everyone agrees.

"We need to get back to my house." I say. We all hurry back to where our newest prank victim was feeling better about ourselves.

Surprised I updated so soon? I know I am. I hope you saw my references to the movies Mean Girls and Pitch Perfect. Ah yes, classic chick-flicks. And there is this girl in my grade, Caylie, (hehe) who doesn't like me. I don't know why but she's nice to everyone but me. I'm pretty nice to everyone too. Hmmmm. HAPPY NEW YEAR! I HOPE 2K13 was great and 2K14 is too!

Yes, I do agree that the point of the MDBC series was to get girls to read the "classics" but I wanted to do something different. Also, I am not Heather Vogel-Frederick and will never be.
