Disclaimer: I do not own Twilight: Stephanie Meyer does.
A/N: There may be a little longer of a wait between chapters due to my new job and my mom moving at the end of the month. I'm hoping it won't be too bad, but I'm letting you know just in case. Also, I'm starting two new stories as well; so feel free to check them out. Thanks!
Peter POV
Well, this wasn't exactly the situation I expected to walk into. I mean, I knew it'd be a rough one or there wouldn't have been any reason for me and Char to be here. But never in a million years did I think it was gonna be this bad.
Once he was able to actually talk to us and fill us in on what was goin' on, the heaviness of the situation finally hit me and I started to see why we were here.
Seems like Miss Keyria wasn't just a human, but a hybrid. Somehow, she contained a small part of vampire that was no doubt passed down through her family from one side or the other; which in turn might explain the real reason her parents supposedly disappeared.
Then we have this gift she possessed. Apparently she could hide a vampire's sparkle in sunlight if they were in a certain area close to her. A strong gift for a hybrid; hell, it's a strong gift even for a vampire.
And of course last but not least, she had found her mate before the accident; and from what I've heard the bond was already very strong. Addin' all of that together, I can see where Jas would've needed our help. He told me that Keyria had confessed a dislike for Edward and that pixie bitch, but she hadn't been very revealin' in the reason why. She only told him it was a feelin' she got and, of course, that was enough to convince the Major. Feelin' is kinda his area, and no doubt he'd probably felt somethin' similar himself.
Somethin' that me and Char were watchin' for now; you know, little quirks or somethin' that they might do showing they were up to somethin'.
So, now that we've been recruited as a sort of spy set, we were also asked to stay and help when Keyria woke up. I guess Jas isn't too sure how she's gonna react. Must be gettin' rusty in his old age.
I was sittin' on the back porch when Char came out and sat beside me. Thankfully, she didn't look too worried. Kinda pissed off, but not worried.
"What's eatin' ya, honey?" I joked with her a little.
She glared at me a bit before givin' me a smile. I had that effect on her.
"What's eatin' me is the fact that Dipshit and Dumb bitch ain't here and there's a member of their family goin' through the change. They should be here to help everybody and they ain't. What's more? Esme just talked to them and Alice said that Eddie was upset so she was calmin' him down and then they were gonna sweep the area for any other nomads. Can you believe that?" Her voice was goin' up and down as she rushed through it all; it was kinda cute when she got angry.
I could see her point and it even made me a little angry too, but there is always a reason for everything.
"Yeah, that's fucked up, but they do kinda have a good point. We both know that Eddie boy's a fuckin' pussy, so that's where the 'calm down' excuse gets used. As for them checkin' the area for more nomads, I have to call a little bit of bullshit on that one. Maybe I'm wrong, but if Alice saw the nomads earlier, wouldn't she see more? Why exactly would they have to go anywhere? Personally, I think they just wanted to stay away, try to miss all the nasty stuff and come back when she's clean and kinda calm." I looked at her, the noddin' of her head wasn't really reassuring.
"Kinda what I was thinkin' too, sugar. That's what makes me so mad. They should be here for their family instead of hidin' out til everything's done. Maybe that's just where we're different though. Besides, on the plus side, at least they ain't underfoot and Jas and Carlisle can get their work done." She did have a point on that one.
With them out of the way, everyone could focus on what they were doin' instead of listenin' to them whine about somethin'.
Jasper stepped outside with us, his brows furrowed together.
"What is it, Major?" Somethin' we can help you with?" I rose to my feet, ready to do whatever he needed.
He shook his head a little, confusion clear on his face.
"I don't honestly know. It's been a day and a half already and she's got enough venom in her system to drop a train full of people, but she isn't moving or screamin' at all. Her heart's still beatin', but barely, so I don't understand why she's so still. I've never known anyone to be like that during the change." His voice was heavy, full of worry.
In that moment, it was clear just how much that girl meant to him; as much as me and Char did.
"I wouldn't worry too much, Major. It'll be alright. That little thing up there is gonna be just fine." I spoke low, pattin' his shoulder once.
His face kinda lit up, a smile tuggin' on the corners of his mouth.
"Yeah. She is a tough little thing. A little on the proper side, but feisty when she needs to be. I just wish I knew why she's so quiet." He shook his head a little, but he was still smiling.
A window opened above us and Jasper's eyes grew wide. Esme leaned her head out slightly, her face drawn as she looked at Jasper.
" I think you should get up here. Bring them with you." She was whispering softly.
She stepped out of sight and Jasper was the first to leap up and through the window. I guess now wasn't the time to use a door.
Keyria POV
The pain was finally starting to go away. From the second Emmett bit me I felt like there was lava coursing through my veins. I had to have passed out at some point; I don't remember leaving the field. I could hear Emmett beside me, rocking back and forth as his fingers traced invisible circles on my hand.
"Something's wrong. Something has to be wrong. I messed it up somehow. Look at her. This isn't right." He kept mumbling the same things over and over.
What exactly was wrong with me? He's the one who bit me, for cryin' out loud. Doesn't he know what it looks like when someone changes? Carlisle should, if nothing else. So what is the problem here?
"I don't know, Em. I've never seen anything like this before. I am sure it has nothing to do with anything you have done, son. We simply have to give it time." There was Carlisle; but what hadn't he seen before?
I was starting to think I had grown another head and sprouted a million wriggly tentacles everywhere. There was a pain in my chest; my lungs felt heavier as it got harder to breathe.
"Wait. If she's changing, she's going to be waking up soon. Her heart has almost stopped beating." Esme's voice was actually a comfort, though the words were a bit depressing.
"I can hear it. This has happened very quickly. Much faster than I have heard of before." Carlisle spoke.
"I hope you guys are right, cause her heart ain't beatin' any more. If she's... I don't..." Emmett was close to sobbing.
"Don't worry, son. It will be alright no matter what happens." Carlisle again.
"Quiet. If she has changed, she should be waking in a matter of seconds. We need to be quiet and still. Don't need her attackin' us just yet." Jasper was with me too!
My eyes flew open and I was upright on the table before I knew it. A chain of gasps broke out around the room as my eyes fixed and adjusted to everyone around me. Blonde, chiseled, covered in...scars! That was Jasper. Carlisle and Esme were sitting close together, their hands clasped as they watched me. There were two I didn't know, but something in their scent was familiar somehow.
A growl started low in my chest as I watched them; my eyes lingering a few moments longer before leaving them and landing on him.
Emmett. My dark-haired, muscled and strong Norse god. I felt myself smiling as I stared into his wide, shocked eyes.
"Mac!" It was a very low whisper and I launched myself at him before I even thought.
We crashed across the room, my arms closing around him as I kissed his sweet, surprisingly warm lips. He pulled his head back after a moment and looked at me, wonder still clear in his eyes.
"Ria... How?... I thought...Okay um... Can you let go? I think you cracked something." He went from being shocked to smiling at me and I sat up quickly.
"Oh god, Mac! I'm sorry! You okay?" I looked down at him and he laughed, his hands rubbing my legs.
"I'm fine now, babe. Never better, actually." He winked at me and it sent shivers of fire through my body.
Who knew something that simple could have that kind of reaction?
"Keyria? As much as we hate to interrupt this little reunion of yours, we do have some things to talk about right now." Esme spoke softly with a little amusement in her voice.
I blushed. Well, if I could've blushed anyway. I certainly looked as though I had been caught with my hand in the cookie jar, I'm sure. I stood and found myself sitting in a lounge chair in an instant. I was so going to have to work on this. I looked around at them with wide eyes; everyone still regarding me closely, as if they'd never seen me before.
"So... What do we need to talk about? I mean, besides learning to control my actions and stuff?" I spoke a little more normally this time, smiling at myself when I did.
"Hang on a just a minute. You're tellin' me that she's a vampire? That she actually did go through the change?" It was the girl I didn't know that spoke.
Her comment shocked me for a moment. If it hadn't surprised me so much, I probably would've tackled her for simply having the nerve to open her mouth at all.
"What do you mean by that? Of course I'm a vampire. I was dying, Emmett bit me to save me, and now here I am. I died and woke a vampire. Is that so hard to believe?" My words were angrier than I intended, a growl rumbling in my chest.
"Now just calm down, everybody. That is one of the things we need to talk about. Now Charlotte, you saw her eyes, if only for a moment, when she woke like the rest of us did. There is no mistaking that color, and you know it." Jasper looked at the girl and she stepped back, finally nodding her head.
I was confused.
"Okay, what's wrong with my eyes? Can we just get to the part where we talk about what's wrong with Keyria now?" I had enough of all this beating around the bush shit; I wanted to know.
Jasper looked at me, his face was confused as he tried to figure something out. I narrowed my eyes and crossed my arms.
"Well, in my opinion, I would say that your gift as a human morphed and changed a bit once you turned. You could sort of camo a vampire by getting rid of their sparkle in the sunlight. I think it has gotten stronger and a little more complex in what it covers now. Your eyes, for example. When you first woke; they were the same blood-red of every newborn; but in just a matter of seconds, they turned back to that Windex-blue as you call it. The same with your skin. You had fair skin to start with, but instead of your skin being the same white marble shade like ours, yours is like alabaster or bisque. Still very pale, but just a little color for warmth. This is something I have never seen before; something I will want to observe and maybe even test a little." Jasper sounded amazed, but I noticed the smallest flash of worry in his face.
So, apparently I didn't look like a vampire, and that's why they were worried something was wrong.
"Okay. It kinda does make sense though, if you think about it. I'd never seen myself as anything other than how I looked as a human. So, if this is my gift as a vampire, wouldn't it almost be like self-defense, in a way? You know, going back to what I know about my appearance? Like self-preservation; since I'm a newborn and all?" It made sense to me, I just hoped it would to them as well.
Jasper nodded, a smile on his lips.
"You did listen during our training sessions. Yes, I think you may be right. You've only seen yourself as you were when you were human, so your camo would make you appear as such rather quickly. It should have dawned on me earlier, but I wasn't exactly thinkin' about your gift. Glad to have you back, too. Don't know how much more of Em's feelin's I could've handled." He was sincere, but I was glad to see he was trying to lighten the mood.
"Sorry, bro. I was just lost without her. Hopefully I won't be doing that to you again." Emmett laughed a little, his hands on mine.
I looked at him and smiled, wondering for a second what he looked like when he was human. It wasn't the same Emmett I knew in front of me anymore. Instead, a brown-haired, gray-eyed man who looked like Emmett was there. His skin was still smooth but it was creamier now; his eyes smoky-gray with little golden flecks all through them.
I was so shocked I actually jumped away from him a little; eyes wide as he went back to his vampire appearance. That was kinda awesome, and I moved closer again. He changed again as I looked at him with a smile. He was beautiful.
"Key, what did you just do?" Jasper sounded almost alarmed.
I shook my head a little, looking over my shoulder at him quickly.
"I don't know, bubba. I looked at him and started wondering what he looked like when he was human; if I would have been attracted to him then, too. Then he just...changed. I don't know how I did it." I was whispering again, but from being shocked.
Jasper smiled a little, nodding his head.
"Do you think it would work on someone else? Would you try?" He asked me quickly and I nodded.
I turned toward Carlisle and tried to think of what he might have looked like, but nothing happened. I frowned and tried again. Nothing.
"Sorry, Jas. Maybe it's only going to work for me and Mac." I was a little down at that thought; it would've been nice to do that for everyone.
"Don't worry, little Miss. I'm sure your gift is like most others. We'll just have to practice with it and give it time. Every gift grows with time and trainin'. I haven't heard of many gifts that are limited to the vampire that has it and their mate only." Just like Jasper, back to training and practice.
Everyone shifted around the room a little and I looked at them all.
"Alright, now that we have discovered that Keyria's gift has changed, we need to discuss other things." Carlisle spoke up.
"Now, Keyria changing this soon puts us in a bit of a bind. Graduation is still a while away; this wasn't supposed to happen. I'll go through some medical journals and see if I can find an illness that would last a while yet not end fatally so we have an excuse for school. We can arrange for your work to be brought home so you can still graduate. Hopefully, we can work on your control for you to be able to attend the ceremony, if you like." He smiled at me and I nodded.
I still wanted to graduate; and it would suck if I couldn't walk with everyone else.
"Also, we won't be able to let Bella come over for a while, at least until you have better control. You might think you wouldn't hurt her, but you haven't smelled a human yet. It is only for safety, sweetheart, nothing else. Now, everything is going to be a little more difficult at first now that you are stronger and faster than before. It will take you a while to control your movements and how you act. Almost like learning how to do everything all over again. But don't worry, we are all here to help you." Carlisle smiled at me and I returned the smile weakly.
I could see what he was talking about when I thought of how fast I moved. I would have to learn how to slow down before I could really go anywhere.
Esme looked up as she hit a button on her phone.
"Alright. I just spoke to Alice and they are on their way back now. They should be here soon, so why don't we all take a minute and go down to the living room? I will get this room cleaned up before they get here and then Keyria will have to hunt." She stood and smiled at us as we all started milling out of the room.
Emmett kept my hand in his as we walked; helping me work on my speed a little. We still made it down stairs before everyone else.
We were all sitting and chatting when the door opened; Alice stopping in the doorway as her eyes locked on mine. For the first time since I had known her, she looked scared; and for good reason. I was fairly sure about what she had done, but I was going to beat her at her own game. Edward looked almost furious and that made me think they were in this thing, whatever it was, together. I smiled sweetly at Alice though, enjoying the look of terror on her face.
"I'm glad to see both of you made it. And it looks like neither of you got hurt too badly." I spoke softly, the smile still on my lips.
I swear Alice would have fainted if she could.
"Keyria? But... how? I thought for sure you were..." Her voice drifted off as she gripped the door frame.
"I know. Everyone did, from what I gather. But thankfully, I am not. And yes, the change worked. I only look human, thanks to my gift, apparently. So, no I didn't die. I am, for what feels like the first time, very much alive." Surprisingly, I was able to keep the acid out of my voice.
They both took a step closer, Edward's eyes flitting all around the room; no doubt trying to read all the mind's and figure it all out. He looked at me then and smiled almost painfully at me.
"Keyria, though I am somewhat shocked that you made it through that horrible ordeal; I am happy to see you have survived. You are much stronger than I thought." His last comment sounded almost defeated.
I smiled again, looking at them both for a second before taking Emmett's hand and rising to my feet.
"Thank you both for your concern. But, I haven't hunted yet, so if you'll excuse me and Emmett. We'll be back in a while." I led the way through the door, pausing only for a brief moment to look right in Alice's eyes and give her the same smile she had given me in the field.
Char POV
Well, this was certainly an interestin' family. A lot of tension between everybody and apparently there was a certain level of distrust among some of them. I noticed an intense moment between Keyria and Alice; something that must not have been too strange since no one else noticed it. I guess there were a few people who didn't like the bitch at first sight.
Of course, seeing the thick, dark black and blue coming from both Alice and Edward near Keyria certainly didn't make me feel good. I was seein' a lot of blue in the room with them here. They both had that nasty, baby-shit green around them too, but Edwards was a little darker.
I couldn't focus on aura's right now though, they were too mixed up anyway. I moved a little closer to Peter and he looked at me; I just nodded quickly and kissed him. I'd tell him later.
"Well, I know there are some people who don't exactly know m siblings, so let me introduce everyone. Peter, Charlotte, this is my brother Edward. And those two are our parents, Carlisle and Esme. Adopted, of course, but they're still family. You both remember Alice, of course. Everyone, this is Peter and his mate Charlotte; my other brother and sister. They helped me escape Maria's reign in Mexico; we kinda saved each other, I guess." Jasper gave an awkward smile, tryin' to break the tension in the room.
"It is lovely to meet you both. Please, make yourselves at home while you are here. I'm sure Jasper will explain our boundaries for hunting to you, but I would like to remind you both that we live here in Forks. So please, try not to munch on anyone from here." Esme spoke this time, even laughin' a little.
She was a wonderful woman, and now that we're here, I can see why there is so much blue around everyone. I'm sure Peter and I both will play along while we're here though; for Jasper's sake.
We'd mat Carlisle and Esme before, a long time in the past. I figured someone would tell us why we had to keep that a secret; it must be a damn good reason.
"Thank you Esme. I ain't exactly sure how long we'll be in for, but we'll try not to be in the way while we're here. We only came down for Jasper anyway. Said he might need a little help with the newborn." I smiled at them, glad that we would be welcome in their house.
"We won't be goin' for humans, either. We know y'all know a lot of people around here and it would attract some attention. Besides, we're kinda picky with who we eat anyway. Now, can we get pointed in the right direction for a quick hunt? Wanna do it before they get back." Peter wrapped an arm around my waist and I was glad he didn't say anything else.
"Of course. You can go straight out behind the isn't much out there til the mountains, so you should be alright. Just be careful, and if you happen to catch the scent of any strange vampires, please let us know when you return." Carlisle waved an arm behind him as we moved.
"We'll keep our eyes open for ya. See y'all in a little while. Major." Peter gave a little salute and a wink to Jasper, earning him a glare as we ducked outside.
I was wonderin' when Peter's smart-ass mouth was gonna kick in. I gave him a smile before runnin' ahead of him; stoppin' long enough to give him a come-get-me look.
Jasper POV
I was startin' to wonder if Peter and Charlotte bein' here was really to help me, or to drive me crazier than I already was. Bad enough I was gonna be dealin' with the little miss bein' a newborn already with a mate; but now I was gonna have Peter's smart ass hangin' around on top of it. But, at the same time, if Peter said I was gonna need them, then I'm sure I'll need them.
Alice and Edward seemed to be relaxin' a little after the shock of seein' Keyria; though I still wanted to know why they seemed so surprised. That, however, would have to wait.
I could feel Keyria and Emmett gettin' closer to the house; their level of lust and passion still strong enough to nearly bring me to my knees.
"For the love of... We might wanna meet them before they get inside. And will someone get some clothes for em, too?" I wheezed out the words.
"Clothes? Why do they need clothes?" There were times when I questioned Alice's brain power.
"Alice, dear. She's a newborn, they are mates, and he went with her on her first hunt. Think about it." Esme's words made Alice's eyes grow wide and I laughed a little.
"Oh. Um, I'll get some then." I felt a little guilt from her, and was a little confused by her willingness to help as she blurred up the stairs.
"Well, let's go then." I stood and let Esme and Carlisle out first; their excitement high.
Alice made it back outside just as they were reachin' the tree line; her arms full of designer clothes.
"Couldn't have brought some of theirs?" I rolled my eyes.
"Oh stop. I just grabbed some stuff from the laundry room. I wasn't worried about whose they were." She glared at me, straightening herself with a huff.
They broke through the tree line and I had to laugh. Emmett had torn leftovers of his shirt tied around his waist, barely coverin' anything. Keyria looked like she was wearin' a bikini; no doubt some of Emmett's handiwork there.
Alice tossed the clothes to Emmett and he grinned, pullin' the pants on quickly.
"Thanks, Alice. It was gettin' a little breezy there for a minute." He chuckled as he turned to help little miss dress, touchin' her gently as he slid the dress over her head.
"Come on, baby. It's alright. They're family, remember?" Emmett whispered in her ear, brushin' his fingers over the freshly made mate mark on her neck.
They moved closer slowly, her eyes searchin' all of us. She paused over Alice and Edward a couple of times and felt angry; but she kept movin'.
"Keyria, sweetheart, you look beautiful. And I see you haven't wasted any time marking each other either. I remember those days; and you will too." Esme wrapped Keyria in a hug, then turned to Carlisle and kissed him lightly on the neck.
"Marking? What do you mean? I just kinda bit him. You know, in the heat of...stuff." She smiled shyly and looked at Emmett through her lashes.
I felt a rush of shock and awe from Esme; followin' her eyes as she looked at Alice and Edward.
They were lookin' sweetly at each other; Edward's hand caressin'...a bite on Alice's neck! I looked at his quickly, the undeniable mark on his now clear as day. Why hadn't I ever seen this before? I never noticed Alice's either.
"You did, you just didn't think it was a mate mark. She told you she had gotten it in a fight, didn't she? I kept mine hidden." Edward looked at me, and for the first time ever, he felt regret for somethin' he had done.
"You and Alice are mates? When did this happen; and why didn't you tell us? Why all the secrecy?" Carlisle sounded angry, and with good reason to be.
I admit to bein' a little pissed myself.
"It wasn't for the reasons you might think, I swear. We met when Edward had left you, before I met Jasper. We were happy and content; until I saw Jasper. I saw us together, here, and that's when we made our plan. I saw you turn Jasper away if I wasn't with him, then attacked by his siblings for refusing him. So, Edward and I planned our return so there wouldn't be questions and kept our being mates to ourselves. We didn't think you would exactly approve; and by the time it had gotten to be too much to handle, Bella showed up. Since she found out about us, we had to keep up the act for her safety. I'm sorry for keeping this from you, but we both thought it was the only way to keep the peace. But I can't do it anymore. Bella is still safe with the family without Edward as her boyfriend, so I'm done pretending now." I could still feel deceit from Alice, but that might have come from rememberin' their story.
Esme felt upset, but relieved. Carlisle was still processin'.
"You should have just told us. We already told you Jasper would have been welcome. You could have lived happily if you would have just told us the truth." Esme still smiled though, feeling glad that they finally came out, I guess.
Keyria POV
After the news of Alice and Edward being mates came out, everyone kinda accepted it and went off to themselves for a while. I thought there was something going on between them, but I didn't think it was anything like that. Emmett was hoping they would be a little nicer now, but I wasn't holding my breath for that one.
We were sitting in the living room now; Emmett had said something to Carlisle about me running off during our hunt and now people were concerned. Everyone was watching me and waiting for Emmett to start. I nudged him a little, but the soft crack made me think I nudged him a little too hard.
"Damn, Ria. We have got to work on that." He looked at me and smiled; shifting a little as he looked back to Carlisle.
"Okay, well, we were out near the mountains tracking a couple deer when Ria stopped. I knew why as soon as I caught up to her, the scent was too strong to miss. There was a human close by; probably someone who got lost trying to find a good place to camp. Anyway, I thought for a second she was gonna go for him, but she doubled over and looked like she was in pain. She just took off running the other way! It was amazing, really. But it just seemed weird that she was able to do that. Has anyone heard of that before? A newborn straight running from a human?" He finished explaining that horrible scene and I was confused yet again.
"Wait a second. You're saying that there was a human out there earlier? I thought they were supposed to smell like the greatest thing ever." I looked around and got some very strange looks.
"They do, sweetheart. Other than the deer, did you smell anything else that was not already there? Something that would have made your thirst even worse than before?" Esme leaned forward, her eyes wide as she smiled softly.
I thought about it for a second, shaking my head quickly.
"No. The only thing I could smell before I ran was horrible. It was like... rotten meat mixed with moldy burnt cat food. I swear, if I could have puked I would have. My insides actually felt like they were twisting up inside themselves. If that was a human that smell came from; no thank you!" I laughed a little, wondering why everyone was still looking at me so strangely.
"Ria, baby, there was nothing out there that smelled like that." Mac looked at me, his hand rubbing my leg lightly.
"No, I think it was the human she smelled. I've heard of something like this before, but it is nothing to worry about really. I need to make a few phone calls to be sure; and we might have another guest in a few weeks. I do not think we should have to worry about Keyria attacking humans." Carlisle spoke softly, and there was a small level of excitement in his voice.
I had no idea what he was talking about, but since he didn't just say what he thought it was, I knew it would be best to just let it go.
"Alrighty then. So, what should we do now?" I looked at Max and raised my brows.
"Oh, I can think of a few things to do." He winked at me and smiled.
I launched myself at him, knocking the chair over as we rolled across the floor. He stopped us long enough to stand; lifting me with him as my legs wrapped around his waist.
"Outside, Emmett. You know where to go." Esme laughed a little.
My lips were trailing along Mac's jaw when that rancid odor hit me again.
"Oh god, what is that?" I felt like hurling, sliding slowly from Mac's arms.
The doorbell rang and Jasper moved fast toward the door.
"Why are you here? Don't you know this ain't exactly a safe place yet?" Jasper wasn't being mean, but he didn't exactly sound happy either.
"I'm sorry, Jasper. I didn't think it would hurt to stop by while she was changing. I just wanted to see how she was; and how Em was doing too." Bella!
I dashed toward the door, smiling brightly as I spotted her. I stopped and paced myself, taking a few slow steps forward. Jas turned toward me and raised a hand, moving himself between me and Bella.
"Keyria, you need to stop. You're holdin' your breath and that's a good thing; but if you do take a breath, I'd rather you do it before you get too close." He took a couple of steps toward me, making me take a step back.
I inhaled once and my hand flew to my face. I felt myself gagging on nothing as that smell burned it's way through my nose and throat.
"Oh my god, that's horrible! It's the same thing I smelled before. Sorry Bella, but you stink!" I tried to laugh a little and Bella looked shocked.
Jasper looked at me for a few minutes, turning as Carlisle appeared somewhere behind us.
"Carlisle, I hope you talked to your friend and got some answers. It is humans little miss is smellin', and personally I'd like to know why." Jasper seemed to relax a little, one arm around Bella's waist as he pulled her close.
"I did, Jasper; and I do have somewhat of an answer. I contacted Eleazar; he has heard of something similar to this in the past. He told me it was a kind of allergy. He isn't sure how or why it happens; and he knows it is something very rare. Other than controlling her reactions, we have nothing at all to worry about concerning Keyria being around humans. Eleazar is going to come down for a visit, and he is going to bring a nomad he found with a similar allergy. He wants to speak with Keyria and possibly watch her reactions. So, I suppose as long as Keyria can tolerate the smell, Bella is more than welcome to come and see everyone." Carlisle seemed full of wonder; and even I felt a little relieved, honestly.
"So what, I'm like allergic to humans or something? That's a little ironic, isn't it?" I laughed a bit, leaning back against Mac.
"Well, yes. I suppose that would be a good way of saying it. So, if you can handle the smell or just hold your breath, I see no reason why you and Bella can't visit and hang out. It might even help actually; since Keyria is supposed to be very sick, Bella could be the one to gather her homework for us. The suspicion will not be as great if there is someone outside the family helping her. Of course, you can not say anything about being able to see her, but checking on her and bringing her things would seem very normal." Carlisle actually seemed happy that we could go on with things as before; and it didn't feel too bad for me either.
"Just don't try touchin' her or anything yet. You may not wanna eat her, but you're still very strong. Until you get better with controllin' what ya do, just stick with talkin'." Jasper smiled a little and I could see the care in his eyes.
"Don't worry, Major. I don't wanna hurt her either, you know." I gave him a wink.
Bella blushed a little then looked at Jasper who nodded a little.
I wondered for a moment how long it would take for them to announce their relationship, but then Edward entered my head. Probably best to keep it quiet for a while.
Days went by and I honestly wasn't sure how many. Jasper's training had gotten even heavier since he had the extra help. He had to make Emmett leave since he couldn't control himself any time I got thrown somewhere. I knew I needed the help, but it was starting to be too much. I honestly wondered at times if they were keeping me and Mac apart on purpose; we hadn't had more than minutes alone since my first hunt.
I got tossed into the trees and groaned; Peter's laughter upsetting me a little.
"And that's what happens when ya get distracted. Somethin' on your mind, little miss?" Peter had that goofy grin and I glared at him.
"Yeah, actually, there is. You guys have a reason you won't let me and Mac have some time alone?" I couldn't keep the irritation out of my voice, which made Peter laugh even harder.
I growled at him a little, stopping when I saw Jasper and Bella coming toward us. I could see Jasper smiling at me and I knew he heard our conversation too.
"There is a good reason, but I didn't think you'd really notice. We want you to have your control back to normal; we don't really have a lot of time til graduation, you know. I really didn't think it'd be a problem though; it's usually the thirst that gets ya that bad." I could see Jasper's point, and I actually kind of felt bad about getting upset.
But a girl has needs; even a vampire girl!
"Okay, I get that I need to get myself and other stuff back to normal for graduation, but can't I have a little time for other stuff? I probably wouldn't be so distracted if I could actually do some of the stuff I'm thinking about, you know." I hoped my little plan would work; after all, I'm sure Jas would be the same way if he could.
Jasper looked at Bella and inhaled sharply, sighing as he dipped his head a little.
"You do have a point, as usual, little miss. All this trainin' probably would be easier if you were focused. Make you a deal; we train and practice til you can control yourself, and when you want a couple hours to yourself, you'll get it. Sound fair?" Jasper cocked his head to the side and smiled.
I nodded, a huge grin on my face.
"Sure. Can I take off for a bit then?" I was so ready for this.
They all started laughing and Jas nodded. I took off and found Emmett in our bedroom. I grabbed his hand and we left out the window; the echo of laughter following us as we ran through the trees. I stopped when we reached the top of a mountain and turned to him.
"Now that I've got you alone, I'm not sure what to do with you." I smiled, pulling him to me roughly.
He purred against my ear and his hands trailed all over me. I kissed him and tugged on his hair. I pushed him to the ground, ripping his shirt off easily as I snaked up his body. I hovered above his face and smiled.
"Now, are you going to be good and do as you're told? Or will you disobey and make me punish you again?" I nipped along his jaw, whispering in his ear as he groaned.
He grabbed my hips and pressed himself against me, his erection digging against my thigh.
"I don't think I'd mind getting punished, but I'll do whatever you want, babe. I'm down for anything." His voice was deep and thick; the arousal clear to my ears.
I raised my brows and smiled, sitting up as I pushed his arms over his head.
"Good. Move, and you're in trouble." I spoke softly.
He groaned again and bit his lip; breathing quickly as I trailed kisses down his stomach. I flicked my tongue over his hips and he jerked; a smile on my lips as I pulled lightly on the waist band of his jeans.
"Well, I see you've found a way to be happy since I've been gone." A female's voice broke through our little bubble and I jumped from Emmett, crouching as I growled.
I moved for her but Emmett locked his arms around me; cooing in my ear as he kissed my hair.
"It's okay, babe. Rose? What are you doing here? And why didn't you go to the house?" Mac sounded more surprised than anything, and I just got more upset as I realized who it was.
"Well, I actually came through this way. When I caught your scent I thought I'd just come to you first. I can see now that I should have just kept going. I'm here to talk to Carlisle anyway, so you don't have to worry." She spoke quickly and dashed through the trees before either of us could say anything.
Emmett let me go slowly, moving back for the house. Well this was great; his ex was back and I still didn't get what I wanted.
"We aren't leaving yet. Just because she's here doesn't mean we have to follow her. I want what I came here for and dammit, I'm gonna get it!" I was a little pissed, but more annoyed than anything.
He turned and smiled at me, leaning against a tree. I went for him and crashed through the tree, rolling him around as I pulled on him.
Now was the perfect rime to make sure there was no doubt who he belonged to; and vice versa.
