House of Jara CHAPTER 28
Jerome and Mara had told the rest of Sibuna that they were having 'alone time' for break and they quickly and unnoticeably went into the girls bathroom next to Sweetie's office as Jerome slipped the 'out of order' sign onto the door. Mara sat herself up on the sinks whilst Jerome leant against the stalls.
"Well do you have any ideas on how I can keep Poppy safe whilst not giving Rufus anymore information?" Jerome questioned sarcastically.
"We could tell Poppy everything or you could feed Rufus fake info?" Mara suggested as she leant back onto the wall.
"We can't tell Poppy anything, not only will she not believe us but she will think we are completely crazy!"
"Right, that's true… how about the second idea? I could help you?" Mara asked, she could see such distress in his perfect facial features; the usual smirk was gone and the mischievous glint was nowhere to be seen.
"Yeah ok," he answered absent mindedly.
"We'll fix this Jerome, I promise," Mara soothed.
"What if we don't? What if the others find out? I don't want you getting caught up in my mess, this is my mistake and they shouldn't hate you for it. Promise me that if they find out you will act like you didn't know," Jerome explained, he was not right in front of her with his hands on her knees.
"No, if I do that then I'll lose you instead, I'd rather lose everyone else than lose you," Mara said as she wrapped her arms around his neck and interlocked her own fingers and looked into his eyes. "I love you."
"I love you too," Jerome closed his eyes as Mara brought his head towards her and kissed his forehead and he wrapped his arms around her waist. He buried his face into her should as she hugged him tightly. "Thank you, you mean so much to me you know that, right?" Jerome said to his lovely girlfriend, she only just managed to hear him as he muttered it into her shoulder, making her giggle. He pulled back but she kept her fingers entwined in his hair, they were gazing into each other's eyes when the bell startled them back into reality. Jerome put his hands on her hips and helped her down from the sinks and they walked to third period drama together.
Mara and Jerome decided on feeding Rufus fake information. They had, had an early Sibuna meeting about the pendulum bridge booby trap and how they were going to get across it. They were telling Rufus that they still hadn't figured out how to get past the antechamber. It had been three days since they had decided what to do about Rufus and Sibuna were now starting to get suspicious about all their serious whispering especially since it mostly took place right after a Sibuna meeting. They were all sitting at the table; Mara and Jerome at one end whispering, Eddie, Joy and Mick between them and the rest of Sibuna whispering at the other end.
"What do you think they're whispering about?" Nina asked Fabian and Patricia in a whisper as Amber and Alfie were chatting.
"I don't know but they've been doing it a lot lately, I know they're dating but it's suspicious," Patricia replied to the young American.
"Maybe we should just ask them, they are our friends after all," Fabian suggested.
"If being in Sibuna has taught me anything it's to not trust people who act sus and they are acting sus and one thing being Jerome's friend has taught me is not to trust Jerome," Patricia explained.
"That's not nice Patricia; you've been friends with him for years how can you say that?"
"Because I've been friends with him for years," Patricia answered, the three Sibuna's pondered on whether to trust the suspicious two, as they carried on whispering.
"Come on dearies, you need to get to school. You don't want to be late," Trudy said as she washed some dishes. They all muttered their thanks and byes and grabbed their things to leave for school. Mara and Jerome walked ahead of everyone in order to keep talking. Nina, Patricia and Fabian decided to tell Alfie and Amber what they had discussed during breakfast.
"I was thinking maybe he's working for Rufus again, I mean he was with him for a week. Who knows what happened during that time," Nina explained.
"No! He wouldn't, he couldn't. I can't believe you'd even think that," Alfie exclaimed.
"I'm sorry Alfie but it could be true," Nina apologised as Patricia nodded in agreement.
"I will clear this up!" Alfie vowed as he ran to Mara and Jerome, stopping them in their tracks.
"Alfie?"
"Tell them it isn't true! Tell them that you aren't working for Rufus again!" Alfie commanded and Jerome suddenly got really nervous and started to stutter.
"I - n-no, no of course I'm not!" It was the least convincing lie he had ever told in his entire life, "Why would you think something like that?" he was rubbing the back of his neck as the five original Sibuna members looked at him weirdly.
"You are, aren't you Slimeball!" Patricia spat accusingly, he looked at Mara when he couldn't find his voice.
"I thought we could trust you this time!" Alfie said disappointed.
"It's not as simple as you think," Mara tried to explain
"Mara you knew? How could you do that to us?" Fabian asked in deisbelief.
"He threatened my sister!"
"He threatened Poppy!" both statements uttered in sync as they tried to plea with Sibuna.
"How do you even know he's telling the truth Mara? He lies Mara, that's what he does! It's what he lives for and no one and I mean no one is ever going to change that!" Patricia spat, hurting Jerome by her harsh words.
"We should have known he'd do this! He's done it before!" Nina exclaimed.
"Mara, you're either with us or you're with him, what's it gonna be?" Amber gave Mara the harsh ultimatum with a hand on her hip.
A/N: So so sooo sorry that I haven't updated in soo long but I had my A-Levels and then I wanted a break from everything so I basically did nothing for ages but here's the latest chapter and I will make sure I don't go MIA until I finish this story.
