House of Jara CHAPTER 30
Fabian, Nina and Patricia arrived to drama and Nina groaned as she sat beside Amber.
"What's up Neens?" Amber asked nicely.
"I don't fancy spending an hour having to look at Jerome and Mara," Nina sighed, Alfie had to refrain from saying anything and Amber looked at Mara; who had heard what Nina said and was looking somewhat sullen.
"Why would he do it? I mean he must have known that we would find out," Fabian questioned, he was still in disbelief of the whole situation.
"Ii can believe it, but Mara? How could she know and not tell us?" Patricia spat spitefully. "How could she do that to us?"
"And she knows that if we don't give that mask to Senkhara then we will all die," Nina whispered.
"Obviously he's far more important to her than we are!" Patricia said louder than necessary.
"Why are you being such a bitch, Patricia?" Amber suddenly blurted out.
"Excuse me?"
"They both had their reasons for what they did. You should get your facts straight before bitching about people!" Amber ranted as the two girls sat there shocked.
"Where is all this coming from? Earlier you were just as angry as we are," Nina questioned.
"Come on, Alfie," Amber said ignoring Nina's question and her and Alfie went to sit with Jerome and Mara.
"What just happened?" Fabian asked as the three Sibuna members sat there staring after Amber and Alfie.
"Amber, I thought you said it was best to let them cool off before telling them to hear us out?" Jerome asked, Mara was in total shock but he found the whole scene quite amusing.
"Well they were being horrible and I couldn't just sit there and listen. They would have expected me to join in and give my opinion," Amber explained, Mara gave her a grateful look and then they were all forced to listen to Mr. Winkler. Patricia and Nina glared daggers into the quartet the whole lesson whilst Fabian pondered on Amber's strong words. The quartet walked to the lockers after class was over.
"Look Amber, I'm not being funny but how are we supposed to find the mask if Sibuna is fighting?" Jerome wondered.
"I don't think they really need us to be honest, I mean, Fabian is the brains; Patricia is the guts and Nina is the chosen one but what are we?" Alfie answered.
"I'm the looks – of course – and Alfie, you're the funny one," Amber retorted. "Jerome, you're the cunning one and Mara you are also the brains," she continued; Mara didn't look amused at her title in the group. Meanwhile; Fabian, Nina and Patricia were standing down the hall.
"All I'm saying is maybe Jerome did have a reason. We all know Rufus and we all know he is capable of manipulation," Fabian explained sheepishly.
"Jerome is a slime ball; always has been and always will be. He lies all the time, to everyone including Alfie and Mara," Patricia had always kind of liked Jerome but in her perspective this was one lie too far.
"I haven't known Jerome for very long but he seems like a conniving, scheming… slime ball to me too. I tried to be nice to him and give him a chance but he blew it! He's been spying on us, doesn't that bother you?" Nina described. "He's been giving our secrets to Rufus and then acting as if he's some innocent angel who could do no wrong!" as she said all of this they had been walking down the hall past the quartet.
"You know Nina; you're not that innocent yourself! You're not as smart as you think either; I mean you can't even tell when someone is telling you the truth. You think you're so special, being the chosen one but you're really not! You put your friends in danger every day and you don't bat an eyelid so don't lecture me on how I betrayed you when you're just a burden to everyone here and all I tried to do is protect the only family I have left!" Jerome had, had enough; the hall was empty and he saw an opportunity so he took it.
"I know that I have put them in danger but I am doing everything in my power to help them! How do we even know you needed to protect your sister? How do we know you haven't been lying? You lie all the time," Nina retorted.
"So do you! You lie about where you are, what you're doing, what you're talking about! No one ever hears the truth come out of your mouth so I guess I'm not the only conniving, scheming slime ball around here," Jerome yelled at the Sibuna team leader. Nina was very offended by his words but Patricia and Fabian seemed to be mulling them over. Nina looked to them for back up and gasped at their expressions.
"You agree with him?"
"He is kind of right. We never tell anyone the truth about anything, let's just give him a chance," Fabian told his girlfriend who scoffed and walked off, not giving anyone an answer.
"Well that went well" Alfie announced sarcastically, everyone gave him death glares.
"What does she have against me?" Jerome asked as the group started walking back to the house.
"The fact that every time we come into contact with Rufus, you work for him," Patricia answered.
"Gee thanks Trixie, I appreciate your faith in me," Jerome half joked.
"I do have faith in you slime ball," Patricia told her friend.
"No you don't; you were the one saying that he'll never change," Fabian chipped in his opinion.
"Fabian! You know for a smart guy you really can be dumb sometimes."
"It's alright Trix, I get it. I have never been the most reliable guy in the world but I have changed thanks to Mara so you can trust me now," Mara smiled as she hugged her boyfriend sideways around the waist.
