Chapter 3
Brooke opened her eyes and saw the one thing that made living life worth it, her gorgeous husband still sleeping. She leaned over and placed a kiss on his lips, just as his eyes opened.
"Alright broody, I'm going to get ready for breakfast with Peyton." She said as she tried to sit up.
"Or you could stay with the person who loves you the most and we can have some fun right here.." He replied grabbing her waist and pulling her back down.
"As tempting as that is, I would rather get this breakfast over with. I want to find out her motive."
Lucas looked at his wife, "Her motive? Brooke she's not a villain and this isn't a movie"
"Yes her motive. She might as well be a villain. Every time we are happy she finds a way to ruin that. I don't want it to be like high school again" she cringed thinking about the triangle they had in high school. It had nearly destroyed her and she wasn't going through that again.
Lucas grabbed her hands, "Pretty girl. She can't ruin us. This isn't high school; there is no sexual tension or unresolved feelings. There is just us. We're married now and I meant what I said in those vows. 'Till death do us part."
"God Lucas, you're such a sap." Giving him a kiss, she attempted to get out of his hold, she turned to him, "and I know you're right, but I don't trust her! She sill has a motive. Now let me go, I want to look fabulous!"
Peyton sat in Karen's cafe waiting for Brooke to show. She hadn't slept much, all she could think about was how to get Lucas back. She heard the bell and looked up to see Brooke walking in, she rolled her eyes, "Of course Brooke would come to breakfast looking like a model" she thought.
"P. Sawyer! What's shaking?" Brooke said as she spotted her old friend.
"Ha, hey B. Davis...well I guess its Scott now huh?" Peyton said, cringing at calling her a Scott.
"It's been Scott for 20 years Peyton. Where have you been? Why didn't you come to any of the other reunions?" She said angry at her friend for losing touch.
"I don't know. I always made it halfway hereā¦then I would back out. High school wasn't the best years of my life Brooke. Maybe for you, but not for me" Peyton sighed thinking about high school. She had went through a lot during those years in Tree Hill.
"Still." She pouted, she knew it was time to change the subject, "so you said you had a job and moved?"
"I'm working for a company, designing things for them. Mainly just using my art skills. It's actually in Florida." Peyton replied.
"That's great Peyton. I'm glad you get to put your talent to use! Tell me about the man in your life!" She clapped her hands, feigning excitement and secretly hoping Peyton has someone. Someone other than Lucas.
"Actually, there really isn't one. I have this guy I'm into to, but nothing has happened yet." Peyton said, treading lightly around the subject.
"I see, well here's some Brooke Davis-Scott advice: don't wait forever to be happy okay? It's amazing getting to see the man you love everyday. Take it from me!" She said, seeing Peyton actually had someone she was interested in.
"Yeah, I won't wait much longer. No worries there. So your kids, they're..." Peyton said
"Sassy? They have that Davis sass don't they? But they have so much of Lucas, his love for reading, his gentle nature, and of course Ryan got Luca's basketball skills and Allie got my leadership and cheerleading skills. They are both prone to brooding though. They're the perfect mix of the two of us." She said, smiling at the thought of her family. She turned back to her friend and decided it was time to bring up the past, just for a second. "Look Peyton, I really don't want to dwell on any of that high school shit that went down. It's in the past. I'm glad you moved on from Lucas, you deserve someone who makes you happy."
"Thanks Brooke, I'll have my man soon. When the timing is right!" Peyton said, giving her friend a fake smile.
"Eh yo Mom. What's happening?" Ryan said walking in.
"Ryan, you remember Peyton? We were friends in high school." She said, looking at her son.
"Yeah, Allie and I are going out. We might hit up river court." Ryan turned to his mother.
"Okay, is your father up?" She asked. Hoping he was close by, she was done with Peyton for the day.
"Yeah, he's in the back." He said.
"Great! Well, P. Sawyer, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to see my man." Brooke sang as she began walking to the back of the cafe.
"Yeah. Go ahead. In going to head out anyway. I have some stuff to do." Peyton replied.
"Great, see ya soon?" She said.
"Count on it." Peyton replied, walking out.
"Broody!" She yelled as she walked to the back of the cafe.
"You think she's planning something?" Allie asked her brother.
"I don't know, she has crazy eyes though." He replied.
"Crazy eyes? What the hell are you talking about?" She gave her brother a look.
"Women who are desperate have this look. She has that look...for dad" He threw the ball for a three pointer.
"Oh geez. Swerve." She replied, taking the ball from him and going in for a layup.
He rolled his eyes, "whatever. Should we tell them what she said...you know about her and dad being soul mates?"
"Nah. Mom won't let her near him without a fight. You know how she is."
"True. So what's her deal anyway? She hasn't seen dad in what, 20 years?" He asked.
"Apparently. Mom said Dad used to date her. They all had some weird love triangle...a telenovela if you will"
"Ew. Dad lowered his standards for that one. I'm just saying, if I was in his place, I wouldn't have touched her with a 39 and a 1/2 foot pole." He said throwing another three.
"Nice Grinch reference bro. But I agree, maybe she wasn't as depressing in high school? Eh I don't know."
They looked up at the sound of voices.
"Hey look! Uncle Skillz! Uncle Nate! Uncle Mouth, Aunt Hales!" Ryan shouted
"Hey you two! You two up for a game? I'm sick of playing just this guy all the time." Skills said elbowing Nathan.
"Oh no! I'm out! I can't hurt myself before cheer tryouts this fall. I'm going to be captain again, no way in hell Elizabeth is taking my spot." Allie said walking off the court.
"Now that's a Brooke trait." Mouth said smiling.
"What's a Brooke trait? Something wonderful I hope. What am I saying? All my traits are wonderful!" Brooke said clapping her hands.
"Well I'll be damned, if it ain't the whole Scott clan on one court." Skills said smiling.
"Skills! How ya been man?" Lucas said hugging his friend.
"Not bad, welcome back man."
"Mouth!" Brooke yelled.
"Hey you! I missed ya!" Mouth said, giving his old friend and her husband a hug.
"Now this feels like old times," Haley said, smiling as she sat down.
"Eh Luke! Ryan! Y'all going to play or what?" Skills yelled to his friends.
"Well Ry? Wanna take these old men?" Lucas said grinning at his son.
"Oh please. Y'all can't beat us." Nathan replied, shooting a three.
"Bring it on Gramps!" Ryan said, stealing the ball from his uncle.
"Don't throw out your hips boys!" Allie said giggling at the men's glares, while her twin laughed.
"Hales!" Brooke said approaching her sister-in-law.
"Brooke! Tell me about your store! And I heard you had breakfast with Peyton?" Haley asked, curious to see why Peyton was back and hoping she wouldn't ruin Brooke and Lucas's lives.
"Oh yes I did! It was interesting..." She said as she began telling Haley about breakfast and her old friend.
As the game progressed, a figure stood off in the distance watching the activities. All she could think about was getting rid of a certain brunette.
