Naruto opened his eyes to see white. There was white everywhere. He began to panic as he realized that this was not the place he had been in before. He had felt so comfortable with the fox. He knew that he should fear the fox or hate him but he could not, not when he felt so in peace with him. The fox was the first being to ever be kind to him except for the Sandaime hokage, nut that was his job. Hokages are supposed to look after the residents of their village.
"Don't worry kit; you are in a hospitable room." A soothing voice said inside his head.
"Kyuubi?"
"Yes, it is me."
"How can you talk to me when we are not in my mindscape?" Naruto asked curiously.
"Well… I have always been able to talk with you but I thought that you would freak out if you heard a sudden, unrecognizable voice talking inside your head."
Naruto thought about it for a while then said, "Yep, I would freak out really badly. But why are you talking to me now?"
"Since you already met me and know about me, I thought why not reveal to you that we can talk to each other without being face to face."
"But what if I want to see you again?" Naruto asked uncertainly.
"Just close your eyes and concentrate on the place you were before." Kyuubi instructed.
Naruto closed his eyes and concentrated really hard. When he felt his feet being soaked, he opened his eyes to see the bars that held kyuubi back.
Naruto walked inside the bars to see not the giant fox but a tall man. The man had red shoulder-length hair, which was hung freely, and red slitted eyes. He wore a similar red short-sleeved shirt which was half unbuttoned to show the toned chest underneath. He wore a black baggy pant that was tucked inside his combat boots.
"kyuubi?"
"Yes, it's me kit. This is my human form. I look handsome, don't I?" Kyuubi joked.
Naruto walked until he was in front of kyuubi then he hugged him and said, "Yes, you are very handsome."
Kyuubi smiled then hugged naruto back. They stayed like that in a comfortable silence. Then kyuubi broke the silence. "Someone is coming inside the room. You better wake up."
Naruto nodded then kissed kyuubi on the cheek and vanished. Kyuubi meanwhile stood there frozen. He slowly placed his hand where naruto had kissed and smiled. 'Kit…'
In the outside world
Naruto opened his eyes to face the white ceiling again but this time he knew where he was. He turned towards the door that he just now noticed. It was probably because the door too was white in colour.
The door slowly opened to reveal the sandaime hokage. The hokage smiled when he saw that Naruto was awake. But Naruto noticed that the smile did not reach his eyes. 'It looks like even the hokage is tired of looking after me' Naruto felt very sad after that revelation. But suddenly he felt a soothing feeling, like someone was embracing him.
"Kyuubi"
"Don't worry kit. I will always be with you. I will always be with you. I will never leave you even if I gain my freedom."
"Thank you Kyuubi" Naruto smiled a happy smile.
The sandaime hokage, Sarutobi, sat in the chair next to Naruto's bed. "How are you feeling?"
"I am okay."
"Um… How should I say this but you have got scars on your face."
"Huh?"
"I am sorry kit, no matter how hard I tried, I could not heal the scars."
"You can heal my wounds?"
"Yes, the red thing that you saw on the ground of my cage was my chakra healing you."
"Oh! Then thank you."
"No problem, kit. After all, if you die, then I will also die."
Naruto's eyes widened causing Sarutobi to pause in his speech.
"Naruto? Are you okay?"
"Huh? Oh! Right, sorry, I was lost in my thoughts."
"It's alright, it's just that your eyes suddenly widened in the middle of my talking so I thought that I had said something that affected you."
"Oh! No, no, it's not like that at all. Please continue."
"Okay, as I was saying, the orphanage that you used to live in has some problems so I have organized an apartment for you. You can go there after you are discharged from the hospital. The way to the apartment is written down here." Sarutobi said then handed him a piece of paper. "I will be going now. I have a council meeting in about 10 minutes." He then exited the room.
Naruto looked at the paper and began to read the directions. He was thankful for his sensitive hearing that had allowed him to listen when the other kids were being taught by their parents.
He followed the directions, all the while being victims of glares and reached a rundown apartment in the middle of nowhere.
'Better than nothing.'
He entered his room, which was on the top floor, and went directly to the bathroom to see the scars. He removed the bandages and gasped when he saw them. There were three horizontal scars on each cheek. They resembled whiskers. And there was also a big vertical scar on the right side of his face. It crossed the three scars and his eye, making it impossible to open his right eye.
"I wonder if I can buy a mask. Though where I don't know. After all, it's not like I can buy in konoha."
"Um… Kit, can you come here?"
"Sure." Naruto entered his mindscape and was directly in front of the cage. He was a bit startled from seeing the huge cage; after all he had been here only two times. "Hey, Kyuubi, do you think if I concentrate enough, I can change my mindscape?"
"None of my previous hosts have tried it before, but there's always a first for everything. So go ahead and give it a try."
Naruto nodded then closed his eyes to concentrate better. After ten minutes or so, he opened his eyes and grinned, "Perfect!"
His mindscape had been changed into a wide field. The blue and red pipes had turned into blue and red trees. The cage had vanished and in its place was a translucent barrier. The grass was long and red in colour. And in the middle of it all was a big bed where Kyuubi was currently sitting in his human form.
Naruto ran to him and jumped. Kyuubi using his natural quick reflex caught him perfectly. Naruto looked up from where his head was rested, in Kyuubi's chest, and smiled a big smile. "So do you like it?"
"Ya, it's perfect." Kyuubi said while caressing his hair. "Especially this bed."
Naruto smiled again and asked, "So why did you call me here?"
"You need to protect yourself, and to protect yourself you need to be strong and to be strong you need to train. I can help with your training. You see, I have the memories of my previous hosts. People believe that I have only had three hosts, including you but in reality I have had a lot, and I can give you their memories. You are the first one cause the previous hosts didn't interact with me and only used me for the chakra."
"Do you mean that I will have the memories of the previous hosts? All their memories or just the ones that will help me train."
"That depends on you, you can choose to view their whole memory or just the ones you want."
"Oh, ok then."
"But you have to leave the village for a few years. The people of this village hates you and won't allow you to train properly."
"That's okay, there's no one who would care anyway. They might even celebrate."
Kyuubi looked at Naruto sadly and then hugged him and slowly laid on the bed. Naruto snuggled closer to him then fell asleep.
