When Naruto woke, he was laying on his bed in his new apartment.

"Kyuubi, should I tell anyone of me leaving?"

"You can but I think it could be better to just leave a letter and leave the village when they are distracted."

Naruto nodded then sat down to write the letter after washing his face and eating breakfast.

Hokage-sama

I will be leaving the village for some time. I will possibly return before the academy's graduation. Don't send anyone after me. And don't worry. I will be fine. I will send you a letter thrice a year so that you know that I am still alive. Please don't worry about me.

Uzumaki Naruto

He spent the day packing his bags, he didn't know when a good distraction would come for him to slip out. With Kyuubi's help and his own natural skill in sleath he managed to steal some clothes. (He did not yet wear the orange clothes.)

That night when he was on his way home, he passed by the Uchiha compound. He stopped when he didn't hear any sound. He slowly walked towards the doors of the compound and slowly opened it. After all, he was not allowed here just like he wasn't allowed on the other clan houses.

The sight that met him froze him for a while but then a smile came to his face. This was the perfect distraction.

The compound was filled with the bodies of the Uchihas. Everywhere, there were bodies. Naruto knew that he shouldn't be happy that they were now dead but he didn't care, after all they had locked him in the prison for no reason at all, several times. He just hoped that the one Uchiha that had been kind to him wasn't dead.

A figure came out of one of the houses and he was covered in blood. Naruto recognized the Anbu mask he was wearing and was thankful that he was alive and he was even more thankful when he realized that he was the one killing the Uchihas.

The figure stopped for a while then turned towards where Naruto was standing. Naruto smiled brightly then mouthed a thank you before going out of the compound, leaving one very confused Uchiha Itachi.

When Naruto reached home, he put his letter in his bed and left his apartment with his bag.

He made his way towards the North gate through the alley. When he reached there, he saw that the two chunin guards were sleeping. He slowly went through the gate and out of Konoha.

-Next morning at Konoha-

The whole village was in an uproar. The Uchiha's were killed by their own kin. They had found out about the Uchiha massacre when Uchiha Sasuke had ran out of the compound screaming.

Apparently, he had arrived at the compound to be greeted with corpses of his clan. He had gone to his own house to check but only found the dead bodies of his family and his older brother standing on the side covered in blood.

Uchiha Itachi had tortured Sasuke by using Mangekyo Sharingan. When Itachi had stopped torturing him, Sasuke had ran out of his house and compound screaming and crying.

The hokage had gone there as fast as he could but Itachi had already disappeared. He spent the rest of the day investigating. He only knew about Naruto's disappearance when he went to his apartment to give him money, two weeks after he had left the village.

Sarutobi had immediately sent some chunins after him. The chunins instead of chasing after him had gone to another village and celebrated.

After 3 days, they had returned and told the hokage that they couldn't find him. After that the hokage sent a couple of Anbus.

The Anbus searched everywhere but couldn't find him. After they returned, the hokage decided to just wait for a letter from Naruto.

-With Naruto after he left the village-

One week after he left the village, he reached the desserts. On his way there, Kyuubi taught him some chakra control exercises. He had already learned to climb trees with out using his hands.

And now he was learning to walk on water but he had to put it off because there wasn't much water in the desserts.

He walked on the dessert for two days until he saw the borders of Suna. Entering Suna was easy as he was still a child and hadn't become a ninja yet. After walking around Suna for a while, he reached a training ground that was covered with bloodlust.

He slowly entered the ground and saw a boy around his age being attacked by the Suna ninjas. He was about to go and help when one of the ninja was covered by sand. He saw the boy looking at the ninja then after 5 seconds or so the ninja was crushed by the sand.

The rest of the ninjas were also crushed by sands. Naruto then realized that the bloodlust was coming from the boy.

"I recognize that bloodlust."

"Kyuubi?"

"That bloodlust. It's Shukaku's."

"Shukaku?"

"The one-tailed beast."

"Oh! Do you think that they treat him like me. I mean there were ninjas attacking him."

"Why don't you go and meet him. Shukaku will know it's me so he won't harm you."

Naruto walked towards the boy. The boy turned towards him. Naruto walked until he was in front of him. The sand around them twitched but otherwise didn't move. The boy continued to watch him without any emotion but Naruto could see the confusion in his eyes, probably wondering why the sand was not reacting.

Naruto held out his hand and said, "HI, my name is Uzumaki Naruto and I just arrived in Suna."

The boy stared at the outstretched hand for a while then slowly put his hand in Naruto's for a handshake, "Shubaku No Gaara."

"So Gaara, why were they attacking you?" Naruto asked even though he already knew the answer.

Gaara looked at him for a while then said, "Because I am the jinchuriki of the one-tailed bijuu."

"Oh"

"You don't fear me?" Gaara asked after a minute of silence.

"If the bijuu speaks with you then he will tell you that I also have a bijuu."

Gaara's eyes widened and Naruto knew that shukaku had just told him.

"You are the jinchuriki of the nine-tailed fox." Gaara said after another minute of silence.

"Yep, pretty cool, isn't it." Naruto said while grinning.

Gaara nodded his head uncertainly.

"Anyway Gaara, can you show me around the village?"

Gaara nodded then began to lead the way. While on the streets, Naruto could see the fearful and hateful looks the villagers and the ninja sent to Gaara. He could also see the pity looks sent towards him. Naruto scowled then put his arm around Gaara's shoulder. Gaara froze mid-step then turned towards him. Naruto just smiled then turned his head towards the villagers. Gaara also looked towards them and saw that they all had their jaws on the ground. A small smile came on his face. Naruto seeing the smile grinned and then took Gaara's arm and put it around his shoulder.

Gaara stared at Naruto with wide eyes but didn't remove his arm. They then continued their way through the village.

On their way to the Kagekage's tower, they met a blonde girl and a brunette boy. The girl had tied her hair in a 4 way ponytail and was carrying a big fan on her back. The boy was wearing a suit that covered him from head to toe and had cat ears on top. He was carrying something on his back that was covered in bandages and had a tuft of hair on top.

When they saw Naruto and Gaara, their jaws also dropped. Naruto and Gaara still had their arms around eachother's shoulder. Gaara tensed for a while then relaxed after Naruto tightened his hold to assure him that he was there.

Gaara then introduced them, "Naruto, these are my siblings, Temari and Kankuro." Gaara said pointing at each of them. "Temari, Kankuro. This is my …"

"Friend, Uzumaki Naruto." Naruto continued for him when he seemed to pause.

Gaara looked at Naruto then smiled. His siblings were surprised to see him smile, even if it was small, they had never seen him smile.

Naruto then looked at what Kankuro was carrying. "Kyuubi, what is Kankuro carrying?"

"He is carrying a puppet which would mean that he is a puppeteer."

"That sounds cool. Do you have a memory of a puppeteer?"

"Yes, I do. Do you want to have it?"

"Yes, but only about puppeteering. I don't want the host's life."

"Ok, but brace yourself cause it is going to be a bit painful."

Naruto braced himself but was still unprepared for the painful headache. Thankfully, Naruto managed to remain silent and just gritted his teeth unnoticeably. The process soon ended and Naruto could feel Kyuubi's chakra soothing his headache. He saw Gaara looking at him and knew that he had felt Kyuubi's chakra shift.

Naruto smiled at Gaara then turned towards Kankuro, "Do you have the supplies to make puppets?"
