Disclaimer: I still don't own Suits.

A/N: So I'm going to be honest with you guys. I was all set to abandon this story, but then I got this amazing review from a reader that was so inspiring that it kicked my butt into gear. It would be way too cruel to leave Mike laying in the ICU like that. So here you go, enjoy!

Complications-Chapter 2

There have been very few times that Harvey Specter has been at a loss for words. And this is one of those times, sitting besides the too still form of his husband of five years. He can't help but stare at Mike's near colorless complexion against the bleached white sheets. Harvey supposes that he should take comfort in the steady beeping of the heart monitor, but all it does is serves as a punch in the gut reminding him of what's missing in the near silent ICU cubicle, Mike's excessive rambling about who does Katie looks like more him or Harvey? Is Aislin going to act out now that her new baby sister is here?

The lawyer moves to take his partner's limp, cold hand in his own. "Don't know if I can do this without you."

With all his attention on his unconscious husband, he doesn't hear his assistant coming up behind him until she blurts out,"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

Harvey's eyes move away from Mike for the first time since he was able to see Mike to see Donna standing directly behind him. "Jesus, Donna. You should wear a bell if you're gonna sneak up on people like that."

Donna's waves off his remark, she has more pressing matters to attend to. "You need to get ahold of yourself. Mike would kick your ass if he saw you right now talking like this. The Great Harvey Specter wallowing at his sick husband's hospital bed."

Harvey rolls his eyes and snaps back, "Well, he's not exactly here to see it, is he?"

Without hesitation Donna smacks the back of Harvey's head. His hand instantly goes to pat down his messy locks. "What the fuck, Donna! What do you want me to do?!"

She motions towards Mike before she starts. "You have every right to be upset, you are his husband. But, you're also a father. The best way to help Mike right now is to do what he would want you to do. You have two kids wondering what the hell is going on. Why did they wake up with both parents gone. And you have another in the neonatal unit."

He gives Donna a harsh glare. "What. Do. You. Want. Me. To. Do?"

Donna's known Harvey way too long to get upset with his assholeish demeanor. She knows that he's not doing it to be hurtful. His abrasiveness is coming from a place of hurt, the feeling of being helpless.

"Dr. Terrence said that his blood volume is still down. It's going to take time to get it back up even with the new meds."

Harvey's face falls as Donna's talking. The physician already told him this, told him that they're trying another medicine that will hopefully make the blood start to clot. But there are no guarantees how long he's going to be unconscious. Or worse, if he's going to wake up.

"Go home for a bit, I'll stay with Mike. Jamie will be getting home from school soon. I already called Ray and he will be dropping him off back at the apartment. You should be there. He was asking a lot of questions before I dropped him off at school. He definitely knows something's up. That's not fair to Rachel, fending of those questions especially after being subjected to a Hello Kitty movie marathon."

Harvey looks down for a second. He knows that Donna's right. As much as he would love to stay here with Mike, he knows he can't. He's a parent to three kids and it would be way too selfish to put his needs and wants above his children's. He runs his hand through his hair. Shit. The kids don't even know that Katie has been born.

"I should go home for a bit. Give Rachel a reprieve from Ais' Hello Kitty marathon." That's the least he owes the brunette. More like a nice expensive bottle of Chardonnay to start. On more than one occasion he has fallen victim to AIslin's puppy dog eyes and next thing he knew he was three hours deep into watching every Hello Kitty cartoon that was ever made. Six years ago he would have wanted to poke his eye out with a plastic fork doing such a thing. But, now he loves the feeling of contentment as Aislin tucks herself closely into his side, smiling ear to ear while watching the animated movies

"You know Rachel doesn't mind, but it's still a good idea to go home for a bit. Talk to Jamie," Donna says.

Harvey rubs his chin. God. Jamie. The five year old is way too smart for his own good. He no doubt picked up that something is amiss. Both him and Mike gone. Donna being there when he woke up and bringing him to school. Rachel watching Aislin during a work/school day. Donna's right. He has to talk to the boy. But what does he say? Anyone can see that the lawyer has come a long way with expressing his emotions and feeling. Especially those of his children, but Mike is usually there to guide him. But, Mike's not here this time. He's not there to tell him what to tell Jamie.

"What do I say?" Harvey says as he looks at Mike almost as if he was asking his unconscious partner. After a minute he turns to Donna, his voice breaking. "What do I tell him?"

Donna bites her lip when she hears the raw emotion in the man's voice. "Tell him that the birth took a lot out of Mike. That his body needs some time to heal. Don't tell him any of the medical mumbo jumbo or he's going to look it up online and scare himself to death."

The lawyer nods his head because she's right. If he told Jamie about the placental abruption the kid will be looking it up as soon as he could and be asking Harvey dozens of questions.

Harvey is afraid to say it aloud but he has to. "What if…what if Mike doesn't wake up?"

Donna's jaw drops when he asks the unfathomable. "No! You can't say that. You can't think that! Only good thoughts here. Negative thoughts won't do any of you any good."

Harvey nods his head. Think positive, he can do that. "Anything else?"

The redhead winkles her nose up and says halfheartedly. "Yeah, you need to shower. You're kinda stinking up the place."

He doesn't even bother to deny it, he knows she's probably right. He got home late last night from the meeting over the Neely merger and was promptly greeted by Jamie, who was up way past bed time, demanding a story. Mike was busy with putting a fussy Aislin down. They then switched to say good night to the other child. By the time both of the youngsters were finally in bed, both he and Mike collapsed into bed exhausted. The last thing Harvey did before he drifted off to sleep was wrap his arms around Mike's swollen waist, giving the blonde a soft kiss behind the ear while whispering back to Mike "Love you too." looking at an unconscious Mike, Harvey can't help but lose himself with the memory of the chaotic, but common night before and all the nights before that. Will that be the last time they were all together as a family? He closes his eyes not being able to bear the thought.

"Harvey?" Donna asks quietly.

Harvey opens his eyes and rubs his chin. "Yeah, I'm going."

Donna nods her head. Harvey stands up and leans in towards Mike. "I'm gonna go check on the kids for a bit, babe. Donna's going to stay with you and Katie. I'll be back." Then he bends down and kisses Mike on his colorless lips.

Donna can't help but tear up at Harvey's uncharacteristic public display of affection. It's not that Harvey is a prude by any means, he's just reserved with his displays of affection. In the years that he and Mike have been together she has only seen a handful of lingering touches and even fewer kisses at the office. And those usually only occurred when they thought they were alone. Hell, even when they were outside of the office it was always Mike who was the one who initiated the contact, either holding Harvey's hand or putting his hand on the small of the other man's back. So to see this is. Seeing Harvey being so affectionate with Mike in front of Donna is truly heartbreaking. If only Mike could see it. He was the one who was always pushing Harvey to be more open about his feelings.

"You'll look after them, both of them?" Harvey asks with his eyes still on Mike's still form.

The redhead quickly wipes away the wetness that's in the corners of her eyes. "Sure, Harvey. I got it."

Harvey jerkily nods his head. He knows that he needs to see the kids. Mike will kill him if he knew that his husband was here at his bedside while the kids were in the dark. That they didn't even know that Katie was born. He breathes just a bit easier knowing that if he can't be there with Katie and Mike, Donna is the person that he trusts the most to be. They're in good hands with her. As he walks by his assistant he squeezes her shoulder and says softly, "Thanks, Donna."

Before the redhead can respond the hand is gone and so is her boss, leaving her with only the sounds of the heart monitor beeping steadily and Mike's even breaths.

I know that Donna may seem a little harsh, but I really think that Harvey needs her to be. I also have the next chapter outlined, so the next chapter should be up fairly quickly. Definitely, sooner than my last update ! Haha.
